I have uninstalled daz and reinstalled it but I can not get daz to load CMS now. How can I get the CMS working again?

Let's start with the basics; which version of Daz Studio and what operating system/version is your computer running?  CMS is a servic so there may be something in your computer stopping it from running.

this is the fix that worked for me.

make sure you have an active internet connection, launch daz studio, go to the connect menu, and select login.

when the login window pops up, enter your account information, check 'remember me,' and log in.

if this works for you like it worked for me, your CMS will be cool then.

you'll only have to do this once.

Also under the laod tab where you see the content Library pane  on the right sider of the header (Aaccross from scene Content Library Smart content is a small box with horizontal line. Click on it to display the options; one of the options will be 'Start CMS'. Try clicking on that.

Before I forget: Did you install the PostgreSQL CMS package? It is a separate download and installation. You can download and install it with the Daz Install Manager

It shows I have it installed

  • Did you ever run DS (or Install Manager) as administrator? Doing so can make the database inaccessible.

Have you in fact installed content on this system? If not then there won't be any dataabse (though you should be able to reimport metadata to rebuild it).

  • Is there away to get daz to be installed again and make it act like it was never installed on the pc?

Are you installing it manually or with DIM?

  • DIM I even uninstalled the DIM too

  • nemesis10nemesis10 Posts: 3,500

Just so we have this straight: 1) you installed a new Daz studio, you installed a new PostgreSQL CMS package, you installed a new DIM, you pointed Content Manager to where your content is, you have the created and populated Data folder in your computer, and CMS is still blocked in a Mac or windows machine?

  • Yes I uninstalled it all and went to the website to redownload DIM. I have windows 10

Just for clarification, there are two versions of CMS and you got the one called PostgreSQL CMS?

There are two database engines, Valentina and PostgreSQL. Valentina was prone to corrupting the database (and also annoyed users by having to runb as an always-on service) so it was replaced with PostgreSQL, which seems to be more robust and dosen't need to run as a service. If PostgreSQL is prsent it will be used in preference to Valentina.

  • I have both verisons of PostgreSQL installed but Daz still is not doing right. I even turned off my firewall and antivirus and nothing.

You want one Cms and it should be PostgreSQL.  Next question, do you have the folder called data in your content folder?

  • Thos the problem I am having. Finally was able to get a screen shot of the box.

  • I don't see this suggested, though it should have been (if we'd realised that you were getting that error):

with DS closed, go, in a Windows file browser, to C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Daz 3D\cms\ (AppData is hidden by default, so you will need to enable the display of hidden files and folders)

open the cmscfg.json file in a text editor

make a note of the Port and ContentClusterPath settings - the latter should usually be C:/Users/YOU/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms

    open the C:/Users/YOU/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms folder

open the postgresql.conf file in a text editor

There may be several lines labelled prot - you want that doesn't start with a #. Does the number match the number in the cmscfg.json file? if not, change it and save.

I took a look at mine - getting same error - and found a couple of interesting things, but not sure how to resolve them.

    My SPECS:
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, patched and updated (always)

32 GB Ram, Intel Core i7-3820 CPU, 2x 3TB internal HD, EVGA nVidia GTX980 Ti

I typically render in Poser Pro 2012-2014, DAZ, VUE, Carrara (these last two less and less and not so much any more)

I use the following more than anything else, Adobe Cloud, predominantly Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Bridge
    - - - - -
Looking at your directions above, it looks like I should expect to find Postrgre in the \cms folder, but it was not there until I manually installed it there.

My DAZ (always latest update via DIM)  is running from:

    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build\DAZStudio.exe

    and now after a manual install: C:\Users\(my personal user folder)\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms\PostgreSQL CMS\share

(DIM is showing 'PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion' as a program that is NOT installed, but s ready to download. I know not to but 'PostgreSQL CMS (Win64-bit)' and 'PostgreSQL CMS (Win64-bit) Public Build +Beta+' are both installed.  Which one of these two should I remove if any?

Aaaaaand the only "postgresql.conf" I found was named: 'postgresql.conf.sample' even after doing a file search at the highest possible directory and letting it run - and that was found here: C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\PostgreSQL CMS\share

I checked the port settings like you said and they were different (only had the .sample Postrgre file, I know, I know, makes no sense to change it, but...) so I made them the same, giving preference to what I found in 'cmscfg.json'.

Still no joy (of course), but I know just enough to know that all the above is probably causing smarter people to have seizures. (HA HA, Sorry!) When in uncharted knowledge territories I sometimes resort to the 'monkey at a keyboard' approach and quite franklly I USUALLY get things working!)

And in the end, once the ball of yarn is completely unravelled it will probably be something simple, but right now all I see is an incomprehensibly tangled ball of yarn.

    Any help?  Anybody?

  • The cms folder has the settings and database - it isn't the isntall location for anything.

I'm not sure there are any changes to PostgreSQL between release and beta, in any event which you install is up to you (DS and PostgreSQL communicate using network protocols, so there shouldn't be anything to break by using the wrong - reasonably current - version as far as I know).

The conversion utility (which isn't actually isntalled, it does its stuff while "installing") converts an existing Valentina database to PostgreSQL. If you have been using PostgreSQL for a while you may not want to run it now.

Any idea why the only postrgre.conf file I can find has .sample and every single line marked out with # ?

Note that there is only one version of PostgreSQL. The other installer with "PostgreSQL" in the name is a run-once utility used for converting old Valentina content databases into the new format. If you never had the Valentina CMS installed then you don't need the converter.

Let's go back and try again.

Shut down Studio if you have it running.

Fire up DIM and key postgres into the search filter box. If you see an entry in the 'Installed' tab, select it and click on 'Start Queue' to un-install it.

Now click on the gear icon (settings) in the upper right corner of DIM and then click on 'Installation' in the pop-up window; look at the entry for 64 bit software; if you're running the default, this should point at C:/Program Files; this is where the Postgres code will install. If nothing shows here, set it to C:/Program Files for now.

Click on 'Accept' to close the window.

Go to the 'Ready to Install' tab and select PostgreSQL CMS (Win 64-bit); click on 'Start Queue' and install it.

Back to Settings; click on 'Show Log' and scroll to the bottom of the document. Does it show "Product successfully installed : PostgreSQL CMS (Win 64-bit) as the next to the last line? If so, you should now have Postgres available and we can go from there.

OK - so postgres lives; now does Studio find it? For that matter - did DIM find it (the line above the 'installed' line should say 'Connected to CMS: . . .)

If DIM connected but Studio does not, we'll have to do some more mousing around.

Thanks - I appreciate all the help!  I wish wiping my HD and doing a fresh OS install was a solution, but I am too invested in this particular install to do that.

To the OP - sorry to hijack your thread! I was hoping we could BOTH find solutions!

What are the ContentClusterPath and Port settings in the two files mentioned above?

And one other log to look at, just for additional clarification. In DIM, click on the settings gear, hold down the ctrl key, and click on 'Show Log'; this will bring up the helper (background process) log. Scroll to the bottom. Here's what I'm looking for:

Queuing uninstall of package(s) that conflict with 18869-2...
    Executed install script: zip:/PostgreSQL CMS_9.3.4_(64-Bit)/DAZ 3D/PostgreSQL CMS/im/initialize.dzime

    Finished Process: C:/Users/KAUFFM~1/AppData/Local/Temp/DAZ3DInstallManagerBeta/InstallTemp/run_vc5and10_x64.bat
Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit
Database Server: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit
    Executed install script: C:/bits-64/DAZ 3D/PostgreSQL CMS/im/finalize.dzime
Product successfully installed : PostgreSQL CMS (Win 64-bit)

I'm curious if there were any other lines (the KAUFFM~1 is my logon id; you should see yours here).

If the two config files mentioned by Richard match up - all the other hits I'm getting on google point to AV and firewall issues.
