I little bit OT but while I'm off on a bit of a Luxus tangent:
After a little testing this afternoon Photo Studio lights are also going to get an upgrade so they will be available in Lux. With Luxus' ability to save Lux materials from within DS I can finally get Photo Studio lights to port into Lux in the way I've always wanted. Here's a half baked WIP, not perfection and grace so far but it's a start
Looks very interesting, but I'm a bit puzzled with the products' additional info
"The Poser version of this product required Semidieu's Advanced Shaders 1.5"
Do you mean by 'required' (as in past sentece) you used those python scripts for development, or are those scripts required to get this to work in poser (as I get errors while running Semidieu's scripts in ppro2012)
I'll try to clarify this as much as I can. The Ring of Light itself requires nothing else for it to work in Poser, just make sure you turn on Indirect Lighting. It's the Intensity and Color material presets that require that you have Semidieu's Advanced Shaders 1.5 installed for them to work correctly. You can adjust everything manually instead of using the presets. Basically the issue is with Poser not supporting partial materials anymore. What I needed was something that would allow me to adjust only the Ambient Strength across 36 different material zones, with each having its own unique value. The presets allow you to lighten or darken all of these at once, with each zone being adjusted relative to default value. Ultimately the only way I could find that would do what I needed was to use Semidieu's Advanced Shaders. I tried to get around it, I even talked with Semidieu about creating unique python scripts just for this product but ultimately it was only the advanced shaders that would let me do what I needed. I'm sorry if this is a deal breaker for you. You could always return them if you try them and the scripts don't work on your system.
Okay, been playing around in PPro2012, as I was afraid the scripts won't work on my 'new' system. I'll try it out on an other/older system I have that has several poser versions installed.... might have something to do with my absolutely not default installment of poser on the new system  (though it will take a while, as that older system is busy with an other job right now)
However still puzzled by your remark that poser does not support partial material zones. I can change the settings on the various material zones and , using material collection (.mc6), i can save a selected group of material zones to that file. When I use that material file, it will only change the mat zones that were selected during saving......
Am I missing a point somewhere?
Also I get the impression that in the poser prop material zone 1 is not set properly, when I change the settings of '1' nothing happens, but when I change the settings for '2' the result is visible in an area twice as large as the other matzones..... so it look likes '1' and '2' are combined...

What I needed to do was change just one setting in a material zone(s) without changing any other setting within that zone(s). Example: the default color of the light (Ambient Color) is white. I decide to change the color of all the material zones to blue. While test rendering I realize the intensity (Ambient Strength) of the light is to bright. Using the Advanced Shaders the Light Intensity presets will change only the Ambient Strength (in all 36 zones) without changing the Ambient Color at all. I then decide the color isn't exactly right and change one group of materials to Yellow without affecting any of the other colors and without changing the modified Ambient Strength Values. Hope that's clear.
Not sure what problem your seeing with the material zones. Are we talking about the sky or the light? In the preview window or in a render? Please PM me with more specifics about what's going on.
I was wanting some more info around future Luxus support please.
I had decided not to get this as I just use very simple DS lighting setups... mostly just a distant light with a point or two.... so this was not something I was considering grabbing. I am interested now though since you propose to have it support Luxus.
Will this be in a standalone version for Luxus or as an update to ROL and if an update do you plan free or at a cost?
Sorry for the questions but there is no point for me to grab ROL if you think the expansion to support Luxrender would be a standalone product as I really don't think I would ever use ROL in my DS renders.... even though it does look like it produces very cool renders from what I have seen in here :)
All plans are somewhat tentative right now but...
It will be an add-on to the Ring of Light, not a stand alone and it won't be free. But it won't be all that expensive either, maybe 1/2 the full price of the Ring. Hopefully less. Depends on the volume of work involved to create a quality product I'm willing to put my name on.
I understand it is hard to know what the final shape of something like this will be but I do appreciate you letting me know your current thinking. With the post above about the Photo Studio lights it sounds like we are in store for lots of amazing lighting options that will work in Luxrender now we have a plugin that integrates so tightly with DS so this is indeed very exciting.
I think I will just hang back a little for now and see what comes out of your development efforts which may well see me buying into ROL and Photo Studio lights when they are both expanded to support LUX.
Good luck with it and good luck with ROL as it does look awesome :)
Ah, I think I got it now :) single parameter change in a material....
Will get back to you (in a PM) once I've done some more try-outs (also on the older system)
Right now, it's well past midnight here in Holland; time to get some sleep....
(and for the record, also tried the DS version, no problems encountered there :) )
OK, I know I said they were in the wishlist and would have to wait a bit (for some cash to pay for them), but I received an unexpected GC this afternoon and now, THEY'RE ALL MINE!!!!!
OK, I know I'm very close to going over the edge, but I hope to be able to play with these in the next day or two. :coolsmirk:

You're going to love them, I think. :)
I can not get enough of these and haven't even combined them with Photo Studio 2 and 3 yet.
I did some experiments with using the Ring of Light to create ambient light with a single distant light. I used just the ROL without the sky. I discovered that to do this I had to turn the opacity of the ROL to 0% in the surfaces tab. Otherwise it blocked the distant light and I only got the ambient light from the ROL in the scene. You can select the whole ROL in the surface tab and turn the opacity down to 0%. You don't have to do each of 36 sections.
So far Ring of Light is one of the easiest light set to use and I like it very much.
Below is the DS 4.5 Pro render of V5 Nichole with Despoina Hair.
Rendering time: 1 hour 35 minutes 57.63 seconds.
Wonderful! Simply Wonderful, Inaneglory!
Can not wait to set these up.
These definitely made my March Madness complete.
Will you be sharing you promo set-ups with us again?
I do so love when you do that :)
All most forgot to do this :red:
Almost all the pictures were rendered at the default intensity level except as mentioned.
First set of 5 (page 1)
#1 (main product image) rotated Ring 20° (to Right)
#2 rotated -45°
#3 default position, intensity up 1/2 step
#4 rotated -45°
#5 Ring and Camera rotated 50° then tilted the Ring up (-10° x axis), intensity up one step
Second set of 5 (page 1)
#6 rotated 50° and upped intensity 1/2 step
#7 default position, lowered intensity 1 step
#8 rotated 50°, lowered intensity 1 step
#9 rotated 10° - small postwork on dress above her hip to fix a tear in the mesh after applying a smoothing mod.
#10 rotated 20°
Third set of 5 (page 2)
#11 rotated -45°
#12 rotated 25°
#13 collage of #4 using several of the sky textures and matching color sets
#14 rotated 5°
#15 rotated 30°
Pretty simple and straight forward, hope that gives you what you wanted :-)
Thanks a lot, DestinysGarden. Yes, I have noted too that Ring of Light brings the textures to life and produce soft shadows.
That is what I like most in the renders, besides the overall composition.
Here's a sneak peak of the 1st fully working version of the Ring in LuxRender. It's pretty raw and normally I don't post WIP but here it is:
It"s a bit grainy (needed more cooking time) and the halo around her was caused by me trying to hurry things along by using the refine brush a bit to heavily. Still have to work on balancing the lights in a way Lux is happy with (and learn to make better Lux materials)
One question. Studio 4.5 opens with the scene at an off angle. Camera is ??? degrees around to the right.
Do the calculations assume Studio 4.5 users have 'straightened' the view? I wonder about this every time I click on a preset light setup.
From a default load the primary light source (material #1) is off to the left at 45° All the data on the setups used the default position as 0° Why did I set the light so that it comes in at an angle like that instead of along one of the major axis? I wanted the default position to give you a good chance of getting a good render right away.

Thanks so much for these, InaneGlory.
They are simply awesome.
Ippo-that is a gorgeous picture! Thanks so much for sharing it.
Well, someone give me a bang on the noggin, maybe that'll teach me to install the RIGHT version of scripts
(Ok, installed the P9 version of Semidieu’s Advanced Shaders and now the scripts work fine in PPro2012 :red: )
My first image I've done with the Ring of Light - no additional lights are used, except the ones at the sign in the background:
"Any monkey with a camera can take a picture" say some pro photographers and they're right.
I put in another sky during postwork because the clouds in the ROL's default sky rendered kind of fuzzy for me. Still practicing.
1st full render using Ring of light
No tweaking in the settings:
Rendered in PPro2012
- Gamma set to 2.2
- SSS skin-settings
- Sky 11 Light Preset
- Intensity 5 (default setting)
- Left position
render time about 18 min.(6core i7-3930K)
Not yet perfect with the skin, but, well, still got a lot to learn regarding the SSS-settings and the effect of the lighting on it.......
very nice! I like that one a lot.
Wow Sedor. Gorgeous render.
Good one Frogdot. Very funny. I don't know why the background is turning out fuzzy for you though. Are you using Poser or DS?
Cute render Glaseye. I'm so glad you got your shader problem sorted and it was a relatively easy fix.
Holy Cow! Beautiful renders everyone. Glad to see everyone having fun. More renders please:)
Thanks for the compliments.
Love all the renders.
One more from me. SSS and translucency is abit overdone.
OK, I know I said they were in the wishlist and would have to wait a bit (for some cash to pay for them), but I received an unexpected GC this afternoon and now, THEY'RE ALL MINE!!!!!
