Transfer utility/Projection templates not working for G8F

Hi,

No matter how many times I uninstall, I can't get the PostgreSQL to run (i.e. it won't show up under "Services" in the task manager and I'm having problems running the transfer utility because the "projection template" is greyed out). I just downloaded DAZ Studio 4.10 today and I'm not really sure whether I had this problem before or not. I think I possibly didn't. When I first downloaded the update, I didn't realize what the PostGreSQL stuff was so I didn't download it until I noticed the problems with the transfer utility. So I think that might have been the cause, but I still can't figure out what the cure would be.

I run Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. I have the 64 bit of DAZ as well.

Edit: previously titled "can't get CMS to work in 4.10", changed it because it seems my problem doesn't have anything to do with the CMS but the projection templates for G8F not working. (below is the unedited original post)

I've uninstalled DAZ and all products from the DAZ install manager... and also the DAZ install manager itself, using the uninsstaller. But nothing happens.

I do have the CMS files installed, apparently:

in

C:\Users\super\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms

there's a a file, "cmscfg.config", plus a folder called "ContentCluster" with a bunch of content, including a file called "postgresql.conf", but again, there's nothing in the "services" tabs, and I can't find any other evidence that it's actually installed, except for the DAZ install manager claiming it is.

Any suggestions!?

  • PostgreSQL isn't a service, it runs only when DS runs (or DIM etc.) and appears in the regular process list. Does DS complain about a missing PostgreSQL on launch? What security software are you running?

  • Thanks for the reply, Richard. I might have confused some terms but this article in the documentation center says there should be a line for "DAZ Content Management Service" and if there isn't, the software isn't installed and you need to reinstall. Since I can't find that line, I was assuming the CMS - which I thought was the same thing as the PostgreSQL - wasn't installed. When I check now I can see that "PostgreSQL Server" is actually under "processes"! But are these two different things then, the CMS and the PostgreSQL? Or is the article I linked outdated?

My issue is still that when I try and do the Edit / Object / Transfer utility, the "projection template" is greyed out. (Additionally, when I autofit G3F hair to G8F, the "what type of item is it?" is also greyed out).

The only security software I'm running is the default Windows Defender

Yes, that article is outdated, it's for the older Valentina CMS which is no longer used.

  • After reading this, I tried using the transfer utility and autofit with a G2F and a G8M character, and suddenly those lines weren't greyed out any longer, so it seems the issue might not be the CMS (which still isn't showing up in "services" in Task Manager, but maybe that's not important) but missing projection templates for G8F. I did already uninstall and reinstall them once but that didn't seem to do much.

I found a folder called "Projection templates" in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\. I tried following the advice of the guy in the post I linked to above, and copied and pasted the folder to C:\Users\User Name\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female (these folders: DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female weren't there to begin with) ... but that didn't actually seem to do anything.

Thanks, Mike! Good to know. Now I guess I only need to figure out why the projection templates won't load!

  • Another issue I noticed, which  might or might not be related, is that the powerpose tool doesn't work correctly for G8F. I only get the same options I get with G3F instead of the new expanded stuff, i.e. just 6 clickable points (for the eyes)

  • Do you see several instaces of PostgreSQL running when you have DS open? Do you see content in Smart Content, or under Products and Categories in the Content Library pane?

  • Richard, yes, just noticed there's actually 8 or 9 of them running right now (as I'm running DAZ).

Yes, I see content in Smart Content and under both Products and Categories in the Content Library Pane.

  • OK, then it sounds as if the CMS itself is working. Do the Starter Essentials for the figure you are using show as installed in the product view - probably easiest to check by typing Starter in the filter box of the Products tab of Smart Content.

  • In the contents panel, under products / G / there is a folder called "Genesis 8 Starter Essentials". It contains stuff like "armani hair" and "base MAT all maps"

  • Well, in that case DS appears to have access to the information it should need, so I don't know why it isn't working as expected.

  • Oh sad Well thanks for trying to help out! I appreciate it.

  • Just wanted to mention this is still an issue for me with 4.11.
