How to create MAT files?

If I've made a texture for an outfit in DS and I want to be able to use it as a MAT file, to apply the texture, how do you do that? Is there a special program you need to save all that info so it can be applied onto the outfit?

If you plug the texture into the diffuse channel and set other surface settings as desired you can save the whole shebang as a material preset by choosing File -> Save As -> Materials Preset.

but that'll just save it for DS, won't it? Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant to be able to save it for Poser as well. :D

You could try exporting as CR2, then take that into Mat Pose Edit, but at best you'd get extremely basic settings. Decent materials have to be set up in the application.

I had no issues using it in DS4.5 Just install it like you would with DS3 and it works.

The way Poser and Studio handle surface settings is very different, what looks good in Studio may not look good in Poser and vice versa. If you don't have Poser to test with there really is no point in trying to save a Poser mat preset.

I tried to use it in 4.7 and cannot get it to work. It creates a file but it is only 1kb in size.

The best program to use would be Mat Pose Edit, but the authors site is down.
So I posted it Here at ShareCG.
    Another good program is NewSkin.
I've used both, MPE lets you start from scratch, while NS let you edit an existing mat pose with your textures.

You will need to edit the text files to make sure everything works, especially the file addresses.
    "K:\Runtime\Textures\NPD\LDcreepstockingbldy\LDcreepstockingbldy.jpg"
    Must be changed to:
    ":Runtime:Textures:NPD:LDcreepstockingbldy:LDcreepstockingbldy.jpg"

Plus you will need a readme file creator program. I use ReadmeBuilder (free) from Renderosity. You don't 'need' it but it helps.
Then you must setup your file folders in the proper format.
Check here at the DAZ forums for several tuts on how to do it.
Unless you are using a shader or custom materials, it's best to setup your pose files in Poser 4 format that way everybody can use them without problems in both DAZ or Poser.
Lastly make up your .zip or .rar file, I use 7zip for this.
    Hope this helps.

Also, please include a preview please!

    :ohh: :blank:
now I see why it is easier to start from scratch with each program, and just try to make them look as close as possible to each other after the render-engines have messed with the surface settings. I had an inkling that there was just no direct translation from one setting in one program, to a similar setting in the other program. I didn't know it was that bad.

I honestly no nothing about Poser, other then seeing the Spaghetti-land editor (with little explanation of what it was), and a post here at daz referring to how Poser loads mats onto a surface (replacing everything, even empty-fields. Amazing Skins can't function in Poser).

I get the nasty imprison, that the DazDefault shader in Studio, is closer in function to LuxRender's surface setting, then Poser's surface editor is to anything else this side of the Galaxy.
