Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

  • I don't know what I'll do concerning G9 I've enjoyed using both the G3 figures and G8. I was a poser user for many, many years and V4.2 was my go to lady. For now I am very happy with what I have I'm stil learning DS and what it can do. I'm not in a rush for G9 however, I am very intrested as to what Daz will come up with next.

No way I'm expending all that money again unless they free the HD morph plugin creation. Too much inversion for another figure with the same limitations as previous generations.

I'm only buying men. So if Genesis 8 coming this year, means females, then I'll wait for the male release. I have enough female figures and content, so unless there is some major breathrough in tech with the new Victoria 9, I'm passing.

The thing is, unless there is a big jump in the underlying tech or the kind of backwards compatibility that we got with Genesis 8, There is no compelling reason for myself to “go all in” when Genesis 9 releases. It’s definitely not a financially sound decision to move into Genesis 9 if it means that my previous content cannot transfer to the new figures. Of course I will play around with the starter essentials that we may be given for free based on previous release history but depending on the compatibility issue, it’s looking very likely that I will stay with just the “starter essentials” or maybe just get the Michael 9 and Victoria 9 characters and stop there until I start seeing the utilities, tutorials, morph packages and whatnot I would need to transfer things forward and backward.  It’s just the most financially responsible way I can see at this point.  None of us really knows what G9 is going to bring to the table at this point after all.

I’m on the fence as well, with all the products coming out to convert items to Genesis 8 I don’t see any need for a new generation at the moment, but aside from that, the sad reality is I will probably jump on the wagon as soon as they roll out like I have done with the previous ones :/

Meh. I gave up on Genesis long ago. They really should have held off on updating Genesis until they got to the technology of Genesis 8 as each step inbetween was just a Malibu Stacy with a new hat. I do NPR renders anyway so I just make my own figures to work with.

I'll wait and catch up on the Genesis 8 characters first. DAZ is bound to have great sale prices on Genesis 8 once Genesis 9 arrives. Then I'll likely buy my first PC in over a decade just to make silly art. After that I'll see what Genesis Generation we have.

Forgive me, but that really doesn't make a lot of sense, imo. There have been technological improvements in each generation of Genesis. Saying they should have "held off on updating Genesis until they got to the technology of Genesis 8" is like saying they never should have moved from landlines to cell phones until they got to the technology level of iPhone X. Each generation builds on the technological improvements of the previous generations. Those steps are part of the growing and learning process and part of the development and growth of those technological improvements.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I'd like to see the automatic bone adjustments in the eye areas fixed when the new generation arrives. Both Gen3 and Gen8 had a problem with that and it was a pain when I tried to create custom morph sets.

  • Okay, so I know we tend to be very close lipped on most upcoming things, but I will tell you this: Genesis 8 currently has the features that we need from a figure base, and to provide for the various things we intend to release this year.  As such Genesis 9 is definitely not slated for 2019.  We do however, have a lot of other cool stuff that will be releasing in Q2-Q4.  Watch, you'll start to see a lot of new functionality in content and Studio itself over the next several months that will let you do a lot of things with Genesis 8 that you haven't been able to.

I'm still of the opinion every genesis past the first was a step back.

The single figure was a brillaint idea. Going back to the Male/Female model of the previous generations was a mistake.

Thank you, thank you for this announcement! I'm very excited for the additional functionality, and very glad that we can stick with G8 for at least 9 more months.

So finally 4.11 will be out of beta I presume. Also I'm glad that G8 is here to stay, personally I'm sick of generation "upgrades" ..

Gosh, thank you for that information.

I have only recently gotten back into 3d art and have started collecting up G8 and G3 stuff.  I have also been toying with the idea of creating a couple of products myself.  I am refrshing my modelling skills etc, and learning new ones to embrace the new technology.  And I can see a couple of little holes in the current G8 market that I think I could nicely fill.

But I was hesitant to look further into this if there was a chance that G9 was on the horizon.

Looking forward to what surprises you guys have in store for us.

Genesis 8 would have been here to stay regardless. A new release doesn't force anyone to 'upgrade'.

@DAZ_Steve: I'm interested to see what else can be done with G8. Frankly, I am happy (and ready) to move on to a newer, more updated figure (I'm guessing this means the two year cycle may be broken more regularly going forward), but I'm still interested in what else is ahead for the current gen nonetheless.

The two year "cycle" has only happened twice, hasn't it? I will say personally I feel better about buying G8 bundles knowing that G9 is further out than this summer.

Good info Steve.  Thanks for popping in.  Can't wait, SERIOUSLY, for DAZ Studio 4.11.XXXX

    Hallelujah!

You have just made my day, (week, month, year, whatever.) I can hardly wait to see what the PAs come up with in the coming months for G8, especially those who create utilities for the figures, like Zev0 and Dogz, and those who make clothing and hair for the males.

    (Doing a "happy dance.")

He has to be talking about a lot more functionality than what the 4.11.x beta I have supplies.

I had this bizzare dream last night about Visual Story telling through 3D character animation
with the Real Genesis figures & Modern Human IK tools, at a cost that will eat Reallusion's lunch.devil

Most likely, since they have done a lot of work that we haven't had a chance to look at yet.

There was a similar "gonna blow your minds" comment last year… and a few months later, Daz introduced dForce. There have been a lot of updates to dForce mentioned in the Change Log. That alone has me excited for the next beta release. Now I'm hopping on first one foot and the other, like little kid, impatient to find out what this "new functionality in content and Studio" actually is…!

There is nothing to suggest that the new release is ready for g9; of course, there wouldn't be. :)

What do you mean G8 is here to stay?

They are all here to stay, all the way back to V3, and they stay for many years.

If you don't like an upgrade, don't buy into it.

For example: Amazon keep telling me I'm missing out on a benefit (namely the music available with Prime). To me, however, it isn't a benefit. It is a feature, and one I'm not interested in. You can decide that G9 is full of features you don't need. Marketting likes to call em benefits, but that is always down to the comsumer, not the one providing said features.
