Watch, you'll start to see a lot of new functionality in content and Studio itself over the next several months that will let you do a lot of things with Genesis 8 that you haven't been able to.

So finally 4.11 will be out of beta I presume. Also I'm glad that G8 is here to stay, personally I'm sick of generation "upgrades" ..

What do you mean G8 is here to stay?

I think they just meant at least here to stay for now, with a lot of new content being made for it and all, given DAZ_Steve's announcement: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/4455636/#Comment_4455636

Okay, so I know we tend to be very close lipped on most upcoming things, but I will tell you this: Genesis 8 currently has the features that we need from a figure base, and to provide for the various things we intend to release this year.  As such Genesis 9 is definitely not slated for 2019.  We do however, have a lot of other cool stuff that will be releasing in Q2-Q4.  Watch, you'll start to see a lot of new functionality in content and Studio itself over the next several months that will let you do a lot of things with Genesis 8 that you haven't been able to.

Real physics? Better muscle and joint movement? Feet and hands more realistic? 'Point to' that works correctly? Better collision control?

... or just new characters and 'OOH, shiny!' bits? Time will tell, but now I can rethink my budget with no G9 in the near future. And that's cool smiley

@dragonfly_2004, with the assurance of no G9 for 2019, and hints of "other cool stuff" in the near future, I'm pretty sure DAZ_Steve is talking about much more than just more characters and shiny bits. lol The cool stuff may not be what you or I are hoping for, but that doesn't mean we won't love it. For me, the too big changes were Iray and dForce. I wasn't hoping for either, but they are both indispensible to me today.

I'm excited to find out what other resources DS will have that I didn't know I couldn't "live" without!

He has to be talking about a lot more functionality than what the 4.11.x beta I have supplies.

Most likely, since they have done a lot of work that we haven't had a chance to look at yet.

There was a similar "gonna blow your minds" comment last year… and a few months later, Daz introduced dForce. There have been a lot of updates to dForce mentioned in the Change Log. That alone has me excited for the next beta release. Now I'm hopping on first one foot and the other, like little kid, impatient to find out what this "new functionality in content and Studio" actually is…!

I'm gonna say fiber based dynamic hair and a morph brush. Or, better yet, a new autofit that makes the old one look like child's play.  Hey, a girl can dream ;).

Spline based Dynamic hair would be better and far easier to style and animate.laugh

I actually think that's what I meant. LOL Spline based ;).

There's already been "hints" I've seen in the beta for maybe something like that. We'll have to see. But I did guess right about dforce coming by clues in that beta, so.....

(still trying to decide what "convert ribbons to lines" and "convert tubes to lines" might be for)  ;).

I'm not in a big hurry for G9.

I really want Daz to really allow the creators to milk the full power of their G8 line.

Look at what was done with G4. New stuff is coming out all the time & some of it is amazing. This is great because I still prefer Carrara.

I'm not a Luddite, but I believe we would all be better served if we let G8 mature a bit.

The stuff that is being made now is awesome, but it would pale in comparison to what a matured version of G8 would be.

    That would be cool.

  • I just hope that program upgrades do not mean more problems with earlier plugins and such... and hopefully if it does mean they are ditching functionality for those of us happy in earlier niches, they'll let us know!

I'll probably buy it like I always do with new releases... But I'd love to see the figure ship with dforce weight mapping for the soft bits of the figure so when we pose we can just press simulate to get the gravity shift instead of having to buy breast, butt and belly posing morphs... again. The pectoral bone helped a lot with these woes, but there are no bones for the gut, the butt or subtler things like arm fat and the like. I feel like these subtle adjustments are what really make things seem realistic

@Paradigm, The good news is, you won't have to make that decision this year. Earlier in the thread, on page 12, DAZ_Steve gave us the official word that G9 won't be coming out in 2019. (If you didn't wade through all the previous posts, it woud be easy to miss.)

You can get an inkling of things to come if you read through the Change Log for the private build beta. It's long and somewhat daunting for someone, (like me,) who doesn't know what any of those dzThis and dzThat terms really mean. But I do see dForce updates sprinkled throughout showing that Daz is hard at work maturing the feature. Maybe your soft body physics will be part of dForce soon. (Fingers crossed!) Anyway, to give you an idea, DS 4.10 has dForce 1.0.0.25; The current 4.11 beta has dForce 1.1.0.82; And the private build not yet available to us was recently updated to dForce 1.1.0.176.

I wouldn't call the skipping of G9 in 2019 'good news' per se, rather, info that everyone will have to wait longer.

What I got from the post by DAZ_Steve is that the G8 figure was the core of a much larger project than what we realized, thus there is no need for a new Genesis figure at this time. That's why it didn't seem to be a massive leap in advancement when it first appeared.

Oh, I understood what he was saying. My point is I wouldn't see a release of a new figure as a negative (as plenty of people seem to).

I was actually just reading the dforce pinned threat and saw you tracking those changes. I use the beta for my RTX card, I might need to download the newest version to see if it fixes any of my common issues (extremely long simulations, explody sims)

    Not exactly.

Until Daz remove it from the store, it will be available.

I'd have made the announcement more prominent as I expect there are a number of folks like me.

True, but for a lot of users, especially here on the forum, the figure's level of usability isn't high enough until around 9 months after release, once a number of PAs have had a chance to make needed utilities.

It's not just that, Daywalker, though that is a big part of it.

Not only are we left waiting for our favorite vendors to come out with our favorite tools for the next generation, but those vendors are spending their time creating the same products over and over, to accommodate the latest generation, in some cases, (many cases?) being too busy to find time for developing new tools.

Not to mention the thought of spending thousands more on each successive generation as support for the generations we have in our runtime wanes. The only reason it was palatible with G8 was because so much of the content for G3 works with G8 and vice-versa, with a little effort. And a number of vendors released products that work with both.

Personally, I'm all for innovation. But I balk at the idea of releasing a new generation every two years for the sake of releasing a new generation every two years.

Like L'Adair said, why just cycle through the same content repeatedly and not really do anything exciting or create character bases that the buyers might be looking for.

I think the extra time before we get the next generation is a good thing for everyone. More time for creativity on everyone’s part could be wonderful.  Also I am really looking forward to seeing what DAZ has up its sleeve as regards Studio.

Maybe, but for a lot of other users, they are ready to move on after they've gotten what they feel they can out of the current gen. Two years has proven enough time to do so. So, the argument works in either direction. Difference is, if a new figure comes along, the old one doesn't cease to exist.

I for one will get V9 when it drops, but then again, I am a collector that still uses genesis 1-4 and am looking forward to the fifth version of genesis!... V4 is too archaic with its bends and such that it will remain in the closet I'm afraid...

I will buy, I always say no, but then eventually I just buy and then I am happy that I did. If G9 can wear G3 and G8 clothes I am happy.

Real physics? Better muscle and joint movement? Feet and hands more realistic? 'Point to' that works correctly? Better collision control?

The magic primative!!! What was once the moddlers holy grail is now fully integrated in to DS !

Genesis 9 is here! (Not really)

And if you're wondering, Gnorg is the AM Chimp, slightly morphed, with Samdy's skin textures.
