Fast grab today is mostly G8 Pro bundles. We've had a ton of sales where G8 pro bundles have been dirt cheap the last few weeks. This new character today has an Ophelia 7 feel to her. Genesis/Victoria 8 came out around June 15, 2017.

    Just saying...

You're saying what I was thinking when I saw those bundles in Fast Grab.

And it's not exactly the first time that happened, especially during big sales.

I wish Daz wasn't so secretive about major releases and the features they're working on. It's not a "good" kind of anticipation.

I'll buy Genesis 9, no problem. I'll buy it day 1 without a second thought. I'm blessed to be able to do that in these trying times.

It took me at least a year after Victoria 8's launch before I actually used Genesis 8. She couldn't do what I could do with Genesis 3 at the time. Now I've switched over, but it took some time to get to that point. (I still use Genesis 2 & 3 for males, but not so much the female figures.)

It'll take time with Genesis 9, but I'm okay with that.
Bring on Victoria 9, I say.

Fast Grab is only 70% off, no biggie for a not new DO. Pro Bundles are very often at 65% off because of PC 30 DO discount + 50% DO discount from any other sale. An then you can usually apply other offers and coupons. With past Pro Bundles releases you could get them at $10 to $20. Last monday and tuesday for $13 (that even included very recent releases).

So my guess is they added them now at fast grab because sales at only 45% discount are low and they don't want to make a big DO discount during PC+ sale (at least for now, let's hope that changes).

The bolded is part of what I was getting at - you don't see relatively recent pro-bundles for $13 very often. Last time I remember seeing things that cheap was around the time a new generation was about to come out.

I did not have the elements I needed to work with Genesis 8 Female until Zelara 8 was released---almost 14 months after Victoria 8---along with EJ Face Morphs and Details. For the males, it took even longer. So, I think I may hold off on Genesis 9 until they start giving away G9 Pro Bundles, unless they make a Core Figure that is so stunning that I can't wait.

    I can think of ...

    Better eye geometry

Hire DMaster to design G9 facial expression

Hire DMaster to design the bend controls and HD creases

Hire bluejaunte to design G9's skin shader, ideally implement new SSS

I wouldn't mind but I guess from the many forum posts it seems there is a market for this: if you have bluejaunte on board anyway, let bluejaunte design G9's feet

Something like this, doesn't even need to re-invent everything that G8 did well.

All of those ideas are excellent, which is why I think most of them won't happen. I would add: Fix the twisty biceps and lat gaps.

  • It'd have to be a huge upgrade for me to get on the next genesis train. I rather they add more tools to Daz, like keep improving the animations, physics, particles, and so on. I agree their secrecy doesn't generate the good kind of anticipation. The whole Underbelly hype was real bad, I thought they were going to add particles for smoke or something like that when I saw the promo on instagram and then it's just another character? frown

Also, I'm still waiting for a Lilith 8 release smiley

OR the Covid-19 epidemic has everyone tightening their pocketbooks and DAZ3D needs money.  Noticed the pro bundle this AM was about $15.00 less than other Pro bundles as well!

I know I am done once Genesis 9 hits.  I've invested a lot in Millennium to Genesis 8 and honestly, I'm quite happy with Genesis 8 and all of the tools available to use G8 models with older stuff.  The minute G9 Victoria comes out, y'all will swoon over "better bends" and such...then weeks later someone will come out with a utility (Zev0 probably) to make EVEN BETTER bends...lol.

I like shiny new things just like everyone else, but you have to kick the habit at some point and for me it's Genesis 9.  Since I have all of the G8 pro bundles up to this point, there's not much of a discount I could get anyway.  I didn't even get the $10 off Angharad 8...lol.

I dont think i would buy G9 characters unless they are offering something amazing to balance the lack of morphs and jcms etc.

If not, then the hard reset on generations could start to just seem more like a cynical way to get whales to spend more on content than a way to offer a material improvement over genesis 8

Be nice if they worked in Poser.  Don't hate just think it's time to come together rather than all this separatism.  Used to be a more fair playing field.  Sad!

That would require every PA to prepare two sets of materials, at least, in order for their products to work with Superfly along with Iray.  Three if you add in 3DL.  It would make more sense for Poser to adapt.

Echoing others' sentiments, if 9 gives us something substantial beyond 8, I'll be an enthusiastic adopter. I've pretty much skipped 8 and stuck with 3 because 8 really wasn't much of an improvement over 3. I've wishlisted several 8 characters as I think they are improvements in terms of sculpting and shaders, but they haven't been enough to push me to recreate the whole 8 infrastructure I've already acquired for 3.

Hopefully 9 give me a reason to move - improved capacity for realistic expressions and eye architecture would be near the top of the list for me.

Nothing's stopping Rendo from making a new version of Poser that has more compatibility.

    Kind of in their court.

I've been reading something like this since the release of Victoria 4 back in 2006. wink

  • Poser/Rosity sells models. They can't want Genesis 8 on their platform if it'll steal sales from La Femme/L'Homme. It would be crazy. Almost as crazy as getting into the software business in the first place, but Rosity must have gotten a really good deal.

You wonder why the prior owner didn't put out more effort to get Genesis 8 onto the platform, but whatever. That debate is so long gone, the ship has sailed & gone around the world several times & already returned to dock on that one. No sense re-hashing all that old stuff now.

They also sell Poser.  I'm sure they'd be happy to sell more LF/LH characters and assets, but they also sell a LOT of Daz-compatible asssets, and a number of their vendors don't touch Poser stuff.  My guess is that Rendo vendors were provided incentives to produce for LF/LH, because many of them had stopped producing for V4.

Anyway, those are all decisions for Rendo to make, and to be discussed on their forum.

I hope they will make G9 soon since G8 was a massive fail to me. I didn't like 90% of the pro bundles and Victoria 8 has never looked as bad.

I agree with that, and i don't think theer has been enough diversaty in the clothing products, they just seem to have been re vamp hash from pevious models and clothing.

Then use morphs to make em look like what you want; transfer clothes from the generation that has what you want.

... Why? Because whenever G9 appears, what's to say you'll like it.

So Daz announce G9 is due x date; everyone continues to buy at the same rate cause they don't want to say their cash for the new generation.

I thought they were using that ship for scrap!

Agreed. I don't have a lot of character packs and morph packs so migrating to G9 would be easier except I need to redo some of my custom morphs. For me I won't upgrade if G9 does not offer some improvement I'm interested in. I don't see a lot of incentive to upgrade if the improvements are quite minor.

I will purchase it only if G9 male is a standalone morph of Female.

I mean the morphs work on both like Genesis 1 in order to be able to use HD female cyborg details with any male characters. No Male-to-Female conversion required.

Interestingly Rendo tried exactly that with L'Homme, before quickly abandoning the idea and making him his own figure. I am not sure of all the reasons for this, but I think there was some that felt he did not look very masculine.

Won't work out in the long run.  They tried that with Genesis 1 and they tried it with La'Femme ... they recently put L'Homme into his own male shell.  Conten providers just find it too hard to make products.  It was a nightmare for me so I can attest to that!

+1 I've seen several PAs who made Genesis 1 content say that too. It was just too much of a nightmare to try and create content for.

YUP.  GREAT for monsters and aliens but for making clothing... nope!
