Nothing's stopping Rendo from making a new version of Poser that has more compatibility.

    Kind of in their court.

Poser/Rosity sells models. They can't want Genesis 8 on their platform if it'll steal sales from La Femme/L'Homme. It would be crazy. Almost as crazy as getting into the software business in the first place, but Rosity must have gotten a really good deal.

You wonder why the prior owner didn't put out more effort to get Genesis 8 onto the platform, but whatever. That debate is so long gone, the ship has sailed & gone around the world several times & already returned to dock on that one. No sense re-hashing all that old stuff now.

...indeed, Poser made a rather major deal about the introduction of La Femme and L'Homme compared to older Poser figures.. Full Daz Genesis compatibility would effectively render them obsolete (pun intended).

Hahahaha! Indeed. I can't have my orc females walking about without their fur bikinis or aliens without shimmery loinclothes. That would be indecent!

I know I am done once Genesis 9 hits.  I've invested a lot in Millennium to Genesis 8 and honestly, I'm quite happy with Genesis 8 and all of the tools available to use G8 models with older stuff.  (...)

I've been reading something like this since the release of Victoria 4 back in 2006. wink

As long as it wasn't me...lol.

I will purchase it only if G9 male is a standalone morph of Female.

I mean the morphs work on both like Genesis 1 in order to be able to use HD female cyborg details with any male characters. No Male-to-Female conversion required.

This don't work. Breast differences is a big problem. From genesis to genesis 2 it led to a separated base figures, from genesis 2 to genesis 3 it led to a different count of points in the meshes.

only way that could work if it was like Littlefox Precious animals

interchangeable geografts, torsos, heads, legs arms

    Adobe Fuse actually does that

lets just call it Spore creature creator cheeky

Renderosity can be called "Generosity: The second land of G3/G8". Since Iray, V4/M4 lost space in each page of the marketplace by genesis 3. LF/LH don't have enough products to cover the places already gained by genesis products on the rendo platform. There have been three types of figures since genesis 2 and these have not gained enough popularity to remain as the standard.

Interestingly Rendo tried exactly that with L'Homme, before quickly abandoning the idea and making him his own figure. I am not sure of all the reasons for this, but I think there was some that felt he did not look very masculine.

I mean something like Millennium 3 , standalone figures sharing the same base.

For example you can add Victory 3 OBJ as a new UV set for Michael 3, you can't do that with Genesis 8.

L'Homme and La Femme share the same base, the morphs can be transferred.

so like a Daz Mr Potato Head, which could actually be kind of cool. Of course to get the "french fry" geograft you would need to buy the Spud Pro bundle.

Will I be buying it?? Only if it includes the face mask and automantically stands six DAZ feet away from Gen 6,7,8 and most especially V4 and M4

I think M9 needs to step it up a notch if DAZ3D wants him to stay competitive.

This is the level of realism that should be expected in the near future, otherwise it's the same ol same ol.

I suspect 8 is the last of the Genesis line and D|S4

D|S5 will bring entirely new technology using StyleGANs and AI

If gen 9 comes out it will inevitably be just v8 and girls for sometime. so pass for me.

it depends what they release for the guys. I don't strive for photorealism so there would need to be some real improvements with clothing and hair to make me bite

Right now we have regressed some with male clothing. Dforce is not a substitution for actual clothing fits and filling bundles with old retreads like horse 2 and women's hair and adult figures without genitals just seems regression.

"I don't want reality.  I want magic!" (I think Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE)  Please don't make DAZ figures PHOTO REAL.  There are 700 billion stock photographs available of every  concievaable subject costing next to nothing on the Internet already.  It's VERY VERY VERY easy to just buy a stock image and in Photoshop, composit into an image.  $200,000,000 movies still look phony.

Not like 2021 will be much different.

  • Daz should give figure can developed over years not every 2 years or 3 release figure .
like windows 10 is last windows , but microsoft developed over years .
becuse peopel can't spend more money for clothes , and hairs for each figure .

Well, that's pretty much where we stand with Genesis 8.  There's been no hint of a replacement, but there have been upgrades to the ecosystem surrounding it.  In the meantime however, there have been big advancements in photorealism in the 3D world, and Daz has to figure out what it wants its place to be in that world.

The problem is that if the figure changes, in a meaningful way, then compatibility has to break. Minor bug fixes may be possible, at least in some areas, but there is a very narrow limit to what can be done while it continues to be the same figure, able to use existing add-ons without a conversion step.

If you think compositing a stock photo into a render is an acceptable substitute for the ability to render photo-real characters, then either you have no imagination, or you think nobody else does.

As for your point about movies, the budget of a movie is only one factor. Motion adds a layer of complexity on top of all the normal modeling, texturing, etc., and the effects studios are frequently operating at a deficit of time.

M4 looked like a cartoon. Every version after that was created to make these characters look more realistic. It's the whole basis of DAZ's platform. The program doesn't even need to handle extra geometry. It just needs to update how it handles hair, light and textures. That's where it falls flat and bogs down.

This Lightwave model (see pics) has almost identical geometry. How its uses it is next level.

I have nothing against photorealism, but is that what the average Daz customer wants?   A lot of people don't, or don't much care.  For people making comics or visual novels and even many people creating stills, realism doesn't seem to be a big priority.  Their focus is telling a story, not amazing people with eyeball reflections.  Excessive realism can be a distraction from the story.  In fact, a lot of them will be better served by Filament than by Iray once a decent set of shaders and conversion and other tools become available.  There are games with beautifully made cutscenes, but if the gameplay is crap, the game will still fail.  Meanwhile, lots of people still play WoW and Lineage and FFXIV.  MS Flight Simulator 2020 is pretty, but how long do most people really want to fly a plane to nowhere around?

Point is that I think it's presumptuous to say that Daz has to do this or that, just because it's possible.   It's their company and their customer base they have to deal with the decisions they make.  Besides, it's not like there hasn't been progress already.
