If it was about me only, I'd be happy to have a new Genesis generation every year. Yup, that would mean buying new stuff, but hey - on the other hand, I have kept my money, because I don't need a new mobile phone every year. ;-) :-P
I get a new mobile phone maybe every three years or so - I still need food, clothes, a computer to render on, a place to renderlive in, etc., so every two years is more than enough
Food, ahm ... Thx for reminding me.

I've tried rendering meals, but they still need to sort the transfer-from-screen-to-plate morph. Maybe in Studio 6?
I started doing this in the G2 days, and used G2F and G2M (including lots of older characters GenXed for use on those models) almost exclusively for a long time. This is the first year I've really moved on to Genesis 3, because I picked up a load of cheap G3 content last year.
So I'm unlikely to dive straight in to G9 if it comes out next year, but it'll probably hasten my move on to G8 as all that content becomes discounted.
Maybe if there's something outstandingly brilliant about G9, I'll pick it up and run with it, but I don't think that's likely. Evolution rather than revolution seems to be the norm.
...maybe a 3d food printer? They can already do it with Chocolate.
I have a theory about that. Very early in the G8 lifecycle, forumites voiced some very strong opinions about the named figures and how it felt like we were being asked to buy the same thing over and over again, generation after generation. (I don't want to get into that discussion, just pointing it out.) Daz actually does pay attention to what we post in these forums, and I think they took those comments to heart. So in spite of the improvements the generation 8 figures brought to our runtimes, instead of rehashing the same figures again and again, Daz made many of the named figures with attributes forumites were clamoring for: Mature, imperfect, more realistic body types, and overall, a big step away from the twenty-something fashion models of previous generations.
I really hope that Daz gets rid of the two year cycle of releasing new generations and just releases 9 when the tech is ready. I've always felt like 8 was released too soon, before the tech was really ready, just to hit that two year cycle.
Uh, my mobile phone is 10 years old. And no, it's not a smart phone, so I'm not only saving on the cost of the phone, but the cost of the data plan. I don't have a data plan!

I'm impressed - though I pay only EU 12.50 a month for mine.
Your theory may well be right - and I liked much of what Gen 8 has to offer. But I'm starting to hit a kind of buying fatigue. For instance dForce - how many drapey long dresses does one runtime need? Not another bob hairstyle... or another bedroom or bathroom...
..I pay 25$ a month for mine and have 2 GB of data which is all I need for my tranist system's apps and looking for directions..
...I do like the fact that there are more "everyday" characters being released for G8 rather than just retreads of the standard "fashion models" and "hunks".
G9 in 2019? No way. Somewhere in another thread Daz gave the information that G9 won't be released before end of 2019. Which is early enough, I think. Too early, to be precise. Make a three years' cycle, and it'll be ok. I don't want to buy all the stuff we need to make a new Genesis generation work every second year anew. Maybe professional users will do this, but not too many hobbyists. And while you are developing G9, please keep in mind that not all of your customers are game developers. Thank you.
I don't know how many bob hairstyles I need, but I love Redz's hair, so I'm delighted to add one more to my runtime. On the other hand, I really want to see more wardrobe and accessory items for the males. I don't need any more dresses, long or otherwise, drapey or not. I definitely don't need any more skimpwear, or over-the-knee boots, or six-inch heels, or barely there fantasy tops that can only stay in place by either very strong magick or lots of double-stick tape! I'd rather have another bedroom!

That's good to know. Before 8 came out, (and we were talking about G4!) I pointed out how much more content is available for the generation 4 models, due in part to how long V4.2/M4 were the flagship characters. I was hoping the next generation wouldn't show up for another year or two, just so we'd see more support products, (wardrobe, hair, etc.,) for the Genesis 3 line. At least it's easy to share those items between G3 and G8. (Though I do wish both generations had the same base pose! Oh, well.)
I use Ting Mobile and my bill per month is about that, usually a little less and that includes taxes and fees. Very happy with the service!
...mine is Consumer Cellular, which has excellent customer service ratings, and I can also get an additional discount through AARP (need to find where I stashed my membership card). As is, my first month and a couple weeks of service is effectively free as they were doing a special Black Friday deal where new accounts received a 20$ credit and I was also credited 10$ for the SIM card I bought. I can knock almost another 5$ off when I send them my AARP number.
I don't believe any information has been given out about any plans for the release date of the next generation of figures.
Well, except for this comment but your quoted date is a couple of years off (about 9):

I wouldn't/won't buy, but then I don't even use G8, G3, or female G2 (I did get suckered into making a couple of guys with G2, because there was a skin that was so perfect, it saved me many hours of trying make my own). DForce crashes me (though I still hope to use it someday), IRay kills my output times and overheats my computer. I have bought a couple of G3 outfits (and by accident, a few G8s) because I can usually mostly make them fit my people. I have managed to re-create an acceptable Genesis version of my V4 main character, so she can now experience the joys of auto-fit. I do not want to go through that nightmare again, though. I make characters, not promos. I am a hobbyist with an obsession, not a paid professional. I cannot afford nor, if I admit it in the quiet recesses of my soul, do I need any new dollies. I bought Vladimir for the freebies, and will probably never use him, because I have no G8 morphs, so he would only ever look like his promo... except in 3Delight, so, not so much (oh, but the Ryker morph was very... well!)
I dream of fibermesh brows that fit Genesis, and a quick way to paint tattoos over seams. I dream of even more exotic morphs with which to bulk out my Genesis collection, so I can make whoever and whatever I like, and wings with better motion controls. I dream of standalone prop eyeballs so I can make multi-eyed creatures whenever I like, and medieval clothing that doesn't look like a Ren Faire. I dream of many things... but not new figures. Though, I have to say, Mabel and Floyd were awesome - if anyone could have dragged me forward, it was they. I know I am just me and not everyone else, which makes me a lower-value Daz customer (though my credit card sometimes takes issue with that, but it's a wimp!), but there we go.
For those of us that want Genesis 9 next year, I just can’t agree with people who say ‘no way, I can’t afford it’. The solution is to just not invest in it. Why keep it from those of us that like the option of it being there? Also, where did anyone from DAZ make that statement?
Yes, I will buy. Each new generation is a new adventure of discovery. I don't buy every character, and I do get annoyed when add-ons for the previous generation don't work, like all of Zev0's morphs. But Zev0 sometimes adds improvements with each generation of product, so that makes purchasing again more palatable.
Daz is running out of pro bundles to entice me to buy G9. The main reason I've bought most of the Genesis 8 bundles is because of the bundle offers, which have rounded out my pro bundle collection nicely, but now I have most of those, and the ones that are left I already have pieces of, hence why I keep passing on them...
A few people have mentioned Genesis 8 characters having much higher memory overhead. If Genesis 9 has even higher requirements, yeah my 8 GB GTX 1080s may not be able to keep up. And those aren't low end GPUs...
There are ways (Altern8, etc) to reduce memory overhead for Genesis 8 of course, but that introduces extra steps.
I recently rendered a V4 character for someone. The render took less than a minute. I was shocked that it finished that fast, so I checked my settings, and nothing had changed. And this is AFTER I applied the Iray Uber Base shader to the character textures.
If Genesis 9 can keep quality while reducing render times, I'll seriously consider it. Otherwise, it's going to depend on what sort of shopping deals Daz offers with those G9 characters, and if the deals appeal to me.
I'm perfectly content with Genesis 2 and 3, I have no need for 'cutting edge', but I get that for some, the added enhancements matter to them, so to each their own.
...unfortunately once a new Genesis update appears, pretty much releases of new content for the previous generation stops. This what makes it a bit frustrating for those who cannot invest in an entire new figure all over again as that is it, no more new clothing ,hair, poses, morphs, characters as everything is now only compatible with the new iteration (save maybe hair which is he easiest to manually fit). Not all of us can model to create additional new clothing, or hair, or morphs. Older content may be "forward compatible" with the new generation, however, content for the newer version is not always compatible with the older one without a lot of difficulty.
...and when Genesis 10 comes out two years afterwards, it becomes the same situation all over again because no more G9 content is being created.
Of course you are right: Daz can release everything they want at any time they want. It's just a matter of buying it or not.
The statement from September 24 seems to have changed a little; I don't recall I wrote 2010. But maybe it was really just a typo from my side, and DAZ_Rawb was mocking about it.
I'm glad they listened. But I do have a few characters that I loved from other generations that I wish were easier to use with the new stuff.
I didn't see it as "mocking" - he was just making a joke. I remember that conversation and you did type 2010 - which is why he made the joke. :)
For me, the real answer is ...eventually.
I skipped over V4 and V5...But later went back and got the V4 elite textures once they went on sale. Same with G2, I really didnt get in to G2 until V7 came out and G2 went on sale. G8 is really the only generation that I am learning while it's current. Based on the most recent morphs I've seen, I have very high hopes for G9, if not g10.
I don't even want to think about it. I'm still the new kid on the block with Daz3D and have already spent a small fortune on it (should have bought shares instead). But I agree with some of the posts here that I don't know if I can face buying all those mods and morphs again for Genesis 9, UNLESS G9 is so revolutionary where you no longer need all those add-ons for the figures...but something tells me G9 doesn't have a revolutionary ring to it and perhaps G10 will be the figures to break the mold. I doubt Daz, being a business, would get rid of such moneymaking add-ons in the end run.
I'd like to think I could resist buying G9 and maybe skip a generation, but I KNOW that ain't gonna happen. A part of me thinks, should I stop buying all G8 material and figures right now and save for G9, but then I remember how much of a sucker I am for sales. I'm really considering getting into content creation insofar as clothing for male characters, not to make a living at it per se, but just to get some new functional designs where users can actuall unbutton shirts/trousers or show a pec (like every basic female item of clothing has a 'show my boobs' function)...so yeah, I guess I would have to buy G9 were that the case....sigh.
