Using DS 4.6. Doing a clean install using DIM. I've loaded a few items, but none of the pics show for them. How can I fix that?

Try re-importing your metadata and see if that fixes it

Those little exclamation symbols usually mean that there are orphaned references, if Frank's suggestion doesn't fix it, go to the drop down menu in the Content Library pane, and select Content DB Maintenance, then select 'Remove Orphaned File References', that should fix it.

Thanks Jimmy I forgot about that one if it didn't work. Silly cause I just did it not to long ago.

My pleasure, there is so much to remember now in DS.

I tried the DB Maintenance, but that did not help.

I'm not sure I understand about re-importing the metadata. I tried getting the zipped files, unzipping them and copying the files into the My Library folder. That did not make a difference.

    Try these steps in order.

Well, I tried the steps. (Do you have to select anything in step 1?) There was a window between 4 and 5 that that says "Check the unmapped base path(s) to clean" and has my content folder listed with a check beside it. I accepted, then moved on to step 5. When I checked, everything was gone. (lol)

Went back to DIM, uninstalled and re-installed. Back to pics with "!".

When I first started using DIM, before I directed where things go it was installing in the defaults. I was able to look at Installed files in DIM and found the pics. I copied them into my content folder and the pics showed up. What I'm not sure of is where those pics might be.

When I started with DAZ, it was exe files. I think I like the zip files, but DIM seems to be hit or miss so far (like some of the exe files were, lol).

Can I see the Path you have set in DIM and the Path you have set In DS in Content Directory Manager? You should not need to Copy or move anything.

Did not know I needed to set anything in DS. (DOH!) That may be part of the problem. Here are the shots. I think I found the right one for the Content Directory Manager.

Just to be clear, the issue is only with the top level pic. If I go into any folder, the items have pics.

It looks like you kept your My Library folder intact?

If so, you have duplicate entries in your My DAZ 3D Library and My Library, but there is only one database file to keep track of all your installed items, that is the problem I think.

You said in your Original Post :

Doing a clean install using DIM. I’ve loaded a few items, but none of the pics show for them. How can I fix that?

If you kept the content intact in My Library without uninstalling anything, then used DIM to install it to My DAZ 3D Library, then you have the same content listed twice

You could 'temporarily' remove My Library from the Content Directory Manager (both DS and Poser Formats), exit, and load DS again. Then try to get rid of the orphaned references, and see if that helps. You really should not have the same content in two locations, that is what is causing the problem.

If there is content in My Library that you want to keep (from other sources) then you are stuck with trying to uninstall the DAZ 3D content, or moving My Library somewhere else as a backup, and just using the new My DAZ 3D Library. Let me know it it works by temporarily removing My Library from the list.

Yes that is a BIG error. A user can not/should not have the same content in two folders and have both folders listed at the same time.

I looked in the folders listed in the Content Directory Manager and there does not appear to be anything in there. Would it be as simple as redirecting where that looks? As stated before, this is a clean build and I have not loaded much yet. Trying to get my ducks in a row before I load all the rest of it. I have no reservations about wiping the partition and starting again. I just want to be sure to point everything that needs to be pointed to the right place. In this case the E drive.

I think that was it. I redirected the Content Directory Manager to E:/My Library and now I have a pic at the top level in Smart Content. Going to add a few more to be sure.

    Thanks all for the help.

Very helpful information people, thank-you, for I messed up my metadata as well, I followed your instructions and I now have everything back in Smart Content again. Thank-You, Thank-You.
I have another newbie question to add to this post. > Do I need to re-install all these product items? I am using 4.6 pro and I am getting double pictures of my products in the files? note the picture. Say like Victoria 6 and Victoria 6 poser CF do I need both?

You don't need the PoserCF's unless you use Poser9+ -- I know they've been taking the metadata out of the PoserCF's, since they aren't needed in DS, but I've seen a handful that still have them in DIM.

In DIM on the "Ready to Download" tab, click the Download Filters button in the upper left, and uncheck any applications you don't use.

Are you Hand installing or Using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) ? If you use the DIM set the Pref's to ONLY the version of DS you are using. Most of the Time CF files are only needed for some items. DIM will auto install only the files needed for the Version of DS you have it set to as said above. The only time I get a error using DIM set to DS4.5+ is if the content had the DIM flags set up wrong from DAZ 3D. They fix that fast when reported and the DIM then lists the Update when added to your (our) accounts.

Hand installing you need to READ the Info for EACH item before Download to know if you need more than one file.
