...BTW the first render of the pic I posted above took just over three and a half hours to render because of the heavy transmaps (the Yule tree in the corner.), and all the lights set to shader hitmode.
On the next render attempt, remembered to flag the tree for Primitive Hitmode on all the lights and the time dropped to about 22 min. Probably could have saved a few more minutes had I flagged the wreath as well, but anything under 30 min is acceptable.
I like the spotlights because you can change the range of the light like you can on a linear pointlight, very usefull for ceiling lamps but also for spots the standard spotlight shines 100% to the ground so ambient spotlight not if you change the range. the fall off rate, well not tested until now but I think it is the softness edge or so.
have done some renders with linear point lights because I needed a short distant light the thing was I had to put the pointlight into an object to avoid that the light shines backwards because of some reflections in the front. now I can use the advanced spotlight :)
Rassafrassin' notifications!
Trust them to go AWOL when there's an update! I could have been using this days ago, sod's law at work again methinks! Good job I thought to check the forums.
Best I go and download it...
CHEERS!
I tried the spotlight and moved it above the character and rotated it a bit to point at her I think, with the disco setting and when rendered nothing showed from the spotlight
hmm, will do that and let you know about the result
A couple of ideas that might help... Look through the light to see where it's pointing (if it's not too far away from target), and might be worth checking the spread angle of the spot when using gobels - too wide and spots will be too far apart to notice.
It might just be me, I haven't used spotlights much I mostly use premised light sets do I'm sure I probably messed up somewhere, I'm gonna reread the user manual, still things I'm confused about lol
here is a test with one spot and a gobo setting
and another gobo, as written just this one spot nothing else on lights
Nice, I wonder if it was because I had another light in the scene
well all I have done on these two images is to add the spot, mark the spot, add the gobo to it and pose the light, nothing else
will try this also, some minutes please :)
one gobo from the left and one spot simple white from the right, only thing I have changed was the shadow softness for both but that has no influence of the light itself
...the two spots look really good.
is it possible that as you have used the gobo disco (I guess this one with the colored spots), that your figure stands right in the shadow of the gobo, means between two colored spots?
Cool thanks, at work right now but am going to play around at home, I'll try out your ideas too Jabba, thanks.
Maybe the problem was my background was white so they didn't show
...you can adjust the size of the GOBO effect
nothing to thank for :) spread angle has also influence of the gobo
Girl 6 with Vyla mats, no postowrk. 1 ambient light, no adjustments
one AAL and one distant light no postwork on this one (except the frame, sure :) )
I really like the advanced spots, they are really quite easy and make for really fast Photo studio style shots.
Two used, under a minute render time and no post. (crosspost from another thread)
1 spot light, 1 point light (for magical effect on the wand) and AoA's Volume camera. The floors and walls are just a cube with the Reflection set to 100.
Smoke and Mirrors
Sorry for the slow reply. I had friends visiting and took a some time off for the Holidays.
It might be good to start a simple scene with just the advanced spotlight and maybe a sphere and a plane. Render that and just make sure the light is working at all. In some rare cases the lights don't install correctly so if it just renders black then that might be the reason. If it doesn't render be sure to post here or PM me and we will make sure we get it working for you.
Great images everyone. I am so happy to hear everyone is getting such good and fast results.
Happy New Year!
