odd surface / odd textures when rendering

Hi anybody,
I´m seeking help: I have an object with strange / odd surfaces - looks like tension e.g. ... These odd structures affect even the rendering of textures. How can I fix this problem? Any helpful ideas or hints? Would be very thankful. See screenshot below ...
All bets wishes

Those look like smoothing artefacts, places where the structure of the mesh confuse the algorithm that adjusts the shaing to hide the blockiness of the mesh. If you go the Surfaces pane>Editor tab, select all surfaces by clicking the model name, and turn off the Smoothing button I think they will vanish -though the model will then look angular. How did you model the plane? Or, if it's not yours, where is it from?
If it is smoothing check that the normals on the model are correct (that you don't have adjacent polygons with normals pointing in opposite directions), that therea re no doubled-up edges on the artefact boundaries, that there are no doubled-up polygons, and that there are no internal polygons (for example closing off the cross-section of the wing).
Hi Richard,
thank you so much - you solved my problem!
By the way, the model is not mine, it´s from Renderosity, Pedro Caparros - he has some really nice aircraft models there. I just adjusted the textures and was disappointed when rendering. You´re the saviour ...
Thanks again and nice weekend
Ralph
