[Solved] Weird clipping on forehead

SymmsSymms Posts: 34

Hi all. I tried submitting a ticket, and they came up with nothing, so...fingers cross someone here can figure out the issue.

In the attached images (a partial render that I stopped because of the clipping, and then a spot render with that...click and drag tool thing), there's weird spots on the guy's forehead. Primarily on his left side, but there's a bit on the right as well. They don't show in the viewport before I render, but in this scene, they're there consistently when I render.

When I loaded him into an empty scene and tried the spot render thing, though, there were no problems.

Here's info that may or may not be relevant:

* Windows 10, 64 bit machine, gtx 1070, intel core i7
* daz studio version 4.10
* using iray
* Scene - Anderson Hall iray
* three lights aimed at him in a 3-point setup
* Anderson Hall lights are on, as is a dome and some ghost lights to make the room brighter before I bothered to add the spotlights
* he has on some gen 3 clothes that I ran through the converter
* he's using Gunner's skin, but his face is a combo of Andre, Marcus, Lucas 8, Gunner, and a lot of tweaking with the 200 plus morphs tool.
* he's using Matthew hair for g8, which I initially thought was the problem, but...idk. The daz people couldn't reproduce the issue, so it might not be the hair at all.

I did some searching and found this: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/279146/solved-iray-glitches-problems-with-the-skin-hair-black-spots, but it didn't seem to help. I definitely have all iray mats applied, and I can't move him to 0 0 0 because, well, he needs to be by the door... And I checked that the hair is parented to the character, so that doesn't seem to be the problem, either.

Any help would be awesome since I'm completely lost. Thanks!!!

    Yes you can. You parent the door, the camera, and everything else in the scene, to your character. Then you move him to (0,0,0). You should see no change in what the camera sees as everything moves the same amount.

    I get this problem a lot, it hadn't occurred to me that it might be a distance-from-0,0,0 bug. I usually fix it in post with a clone brush. Worst case, you could shoot two versions - one with hair, one bald - and combine them in PS.

    Well dang, the parenting thing makes a lot of sense... Also, never thought of the two-version-photoshop thing. Clearly the obvious things don't really occur to me. :p

    Thanks for the tips! I'll give it a go when my current render is done and see if it works :D

    Edit: Well shoot, the moving-everything-to-0 thing fixed the problem... Who knew it was that simple (or that that bug was such a far-reaching thing)? Thanks for the tip on how to adjust things fast and easy! :D

  • I had the same problem with black lines in the forehead (see attachment), but moving the Genesis 8 female closer to 0 0 0 solved the problem. Thank you! laugh
