Auto Fit is not what you would use for weapons or props that your figures hold in their hands. I guess the weapons you load are just simple props or figures if they have movable parts. Maybe they also get loaded into your scene in the possition for another figure to wear them. You can fix this its not that complicated.

Turn off the setting Parent Items In Place found in the Parameters pane menu the little button with the stripes ond the triangle. Then you can first select the figures hand in the viewport, you may have to click twice but the hand should now also be selected in the Scene pane. Now you can drag and drop the weapon onto the hand in the Scene pane or use the Change Parent action. The weapon should now snap into the hands possition. You may have to rotate and move it some to fit into the hand. This should be done with the figure in default pose. If you now move the arm or apply a pose the weapon should follow the hand because its parented. Also you will need a hand pose if the weapon dosen't have one.

Once the figure holds the weapon you can even save a WearAble Preset to the library. It will load your weapon parented and positioned right for the figure and character shape you are using. It also has the extra option to apply the hand pose while loading. To do that first select the figure then go to the Content Library pane and choose Save WearAble Preset. Next you have to choose which item to include on the first page and there is some other page for to save the Pose as well. Since your figure should be in default pose with just the hand posed there is a button at the right side with the option to only save modified values. Can't tell you how this is called exactly in the moment but you could also manualy select all hand pose values in the property hierarchy tree in this window.
