Limit section plane to specific objects?

Is there any way to restrict an iray section plane such that it only affects certain things? I'm trying to make someone disappear into a free standing magic portal but the plane removes everything behind it.

Not within the UI. I don't know if something could be done using Light Path Expressions in Canvasses, in the Advanced tab of Render Settings.
You can do two renders, one with the figure/portal/section plane and a transparant background, and then another with the environment, overlay the two to get a composite image. Often can work okay if you have the same lighting in both.
