Assign multiple weight maps to multiple bones all at once...?

Hello all,

I've created a figure which I've used the figure setup utility and the copied rig from G3M to make a rig for.  I've deleted the bone groups I don't need, and added a bone chain that I do need.  Now, I'm at the point where I need to add weight maps (General, X-rotation, etc) to the bones. I can spend a half hour going to each individual bone and adding the list of maps I want (FYI, these maps are going to be the same for every single bone), but it seems that there should be a way to select ALL of the bones and then select the weight maps I want, then apply that selection.  This would I suppose be similar to filling by bone selection groups with the entire figure selected.  I've done that, but I still have this annoying lack of knowledge as to how to automate the weight map selection for all of the bones in the same way.

Does anyone here know of a way to do this?  I'm sure by the time some helpful person posts an answer I will have done this manually, but I'm thinking of the folks in the future who will be in my position now.  I'd love for a good answer to appear on their google search and thus save them the frustration that I am going through right now.  ;)

Thanks in advance,

Causam

  • If you are making an add-on for Genesis 3 male why not just use the Transfer Utility? I'm not sure what you eman by all maps being the same - it wouldn't match the results of Fill By Selection Group at all, which would give a separate map for each bone, and literally having the same map for each bone would give very strange results.

I found the answer by prowling around some more in the figure setup utility.  Select all the bones you want to have the same map types in the Relationships pane (again, I'm talking about General, X-Rotation, Y-Rotation and etc, NOT the weight paint or weight fill) - you can select multiple bones, select all bones, or just a single one.  After selecting your bones,  right-click over the "Order" column, which is furthest over to the right.  Below the options for rotation order, you will see "Select Weight Maps...".  Click that.  You'll then see a popup menu which allows you to select which map types you want or all of them if you want.  Whatever choices you select here will be applied to ALL the bones you selected in the Relationships pane of the figure setup window.  It's exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for your reply, Richard.  No, it's not an add-on, it's an actor - my apologies for not making that clear.  Transfer Utility is great for clothing and I suppose for geografts and etc.  What I mean by all 'maps being the same' is the map type:  General, X-Rotation, Y-Rotation, etc etc etc.  I think you are thinking of the weight map vertices (or polygons, whichever you use for weight painting).

I appreciate you getting back so quickly, Richard.  You're a real trooper with your involvement here on the forums.
