FBX and BVH motions are not importing

Is there an easy way to import FBX or BVH motions into Daz?

I've been looking at the Rokoko MoCap suit and they provide some samples here: http://help.rokoko.com/support/solutions/articles/36000054092-which-file-formats-can-i-export-to-in-the-studio-

But I have been unable to import them. Is the only way to use Motion Builder? Seems very time-consuming.

  • Update, the BVH biped seems to load but the walk cycle looks more like the character is ice-skating rather than walking.

  • If you want to retarget mocap data, you need first to set a T-pose, then import your take on your T-pose before beeing able to use it in DAZ

Motion builder is rather complex and mostly expensive.

Try to do that with 3dxchange demo (with iclone7) or with ikenema webanimate.

You can also give us a link to your fbx file to see what's wrong.

  • Nope that didn't work. There is a link in my first post, it contains sample motions. Just try the Walk in Circle, it has 2 FBX and 2 BVH files. I've had no luck with the FBX files and the BVH biped file loads up but doesn't look natural. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to look natural since the Rokoko demos look very good.

I just downloaded files. Thank you.

Everything seems to be ok, there is a t-pose : you want to use G8 character?

I converted one of these files for Vini (G8 male).

    Import this .bvh on hip.

Thre are some issues with shoulders, and hips are sliding a little, just say how it is for you.

  • Yes, walk in circle is rather sliding, there are hips orientation issues...

    Fight take :

  • One more important thing : select all nodes, unlock all nodes and set limits off for good results  :)

  • Sorry for late reply, went away for a bit.

Yes G8 currently. I unlock all nodes and disabled limits on everything below the abdomen. You can see that the character is almost swimming in water, the kick is very very low, I'm guessing it's supposed to be a high-kick?

    Just to make sure,

    1. I load up a G8 character

    2. I apply a T-pose

    3. I unlock all nodes

    4. I disable limits

    5. I load up the animation, File - Import - BVH file while hip is selected

Is there anything else I'm missing?

    Of course there's something wrong.

    What works for me :

I load a new G8 character, don't change anything, i don't move it at all, I keep the native pose when imported. Must be in point zero of the scene (not sure if it is necessary, but it will avoid other hips issues in our case).

I select G8 character on scene tab, clic "select children" then with all children selected I clic on figure/unlock nodes   and figure / disable limits.

Then with hip selected I import the bvh file I convert this morning (for me) and everything's fine.

  • If you are showing an unclothed figure make sure you are using Smooth Shaded or Wire Shaded preview mode, not a textured mode.

    Sorry my bad.

Oh yeah, that works, even the walk in circle works quite well now, looks like walking and not ice skating. Definitely have to bookmark this info for the future. Thanks bro!

You're welcome! :) I try to make animations, and I have tested all the existing bugs ...   :)

These bvh need some work on shoulders...

  • Hey guys!

I'm sorry to re-open this thread.

@Sport3D, I very much appreciate the set of instructions you gave out, truly, but after doing these exact steps 8 times now, I can't figure out how you guys managed to make this work. Seriously. If you don't mind, I will list the steps I've taken below at frame 0 in Daz3D 4.10.0.123 :

    - Load Genesis 8 Basic Male

    - Click on G8 in the Scene tab, click "Select children"

    - Click Edit > Figure > Lock > Unlock Selected Node(s)

    - Click Edit > Figure > Limits > Limits Off (Rotation)

    - I then de-select everything, only select the Hip of G8, and import "Circle-Walk_BVH_Default.bvh"

    - Uncheck "Limit Translations to Hip" in the dialog window

    - Click "Accept"

And yet, the Genesis 8 model is completely screwed up.

Is there anything I'm missing here? Did an update between October 13th and now screwed something?

Thanks a ton in advance for any guidance. I greatly appreciate it!

I'm also having this issue. My character is completely twisted after following these steps.  Anyone have any tips?
