Cursor freezing inside viewport (solved)

Hello folks, I've spent a considerable amount of time searching the internet for this particular bug but even wording it properly is difficult. So bear with me when reading the issue ahead:

The program starts fine, it will lead me to a blank scene in no time and all appears in order. The first clue that something is wrong is when I move the mouse cursor away from viewport pane it will lag 10 seconds before realizing it (it moves fine but it retains the shape of whatever tool was present on the viewport such as rotation or coordinates).

The real disaster it lags about 10 seconds for any action I attempt on the viewport even on blank scene it will lag on whatever I try to do like moving the camera with the buttons at the right side of the viewport. This includes moving parts of a figure: 10s to select the part, 10s to select any of the rotations circles, 10 more seconds before it accepts I am trying to move it. Once it realizes that I can move the part freely as long as my keep holding the mouse left button. As soon as I let go it will freeze again 10 more seconds.

While it's not completely impossible to use, it makes even minor tweaks an excercise in frustration and jaw grinding, which makes it impossible to achieve all but simplest of poses or even just finding the right framing for the scene (each camera movement has a 10 sec lag as well).

This problem doesn't occur every single time I start my computer, maybe about 3/4 of the time, In the past I tried using different compatibility modes, reinstalling the program and even went as far as formatting my whole computer (back then it wasn't the only thing not working flawlessly. Nothing ever solved the issue

Has anyone else ever encountered this? I'd be really grateful for any help.

I have a Windows 10 computer Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU 2,40GHzx2; 8GB RAM and nvidia Gforce 730.

  • I assume this is Daz Studio, but exactly which version - Help>About Daz Studio will give the full numbering.

  • Eh sorry, I always forget there are other programs supported here, my bad. The version is 4.10.0.123. I don't know if it's current but it can't be older than a couple months. Since we are on topic I am certain it's not the version with which I first stumbled on this problem.

  • There are mouse issues in Windows 10, which are in Windows 10 itself though their severity varies. Daz has done some work trying to work around at least some of the issues, so it may be worth your while trying the 4.11 public beta.

  • Uh... well have to confess I don't think it would have ever occured to me before the universe ended. That the MOUSE itself could be the problem... I thought it was merely the sympthom of whatever was going on. I did as you suggested, installed the 4.11.236, alas it didn't solve the problem, but it was definitevely worth a shot, fortunately it took less than 10min to download and install.

At least I am starting to understand where the issue may be, instead of randomly poking at stuff, are there any other possible work arounds? even not directly related to DAZ but on changing mouse settings. Thanks for the help so far :

  • I doubt it's the issue, but you could check that the Display Optimisation is set to Best in Edit>Prefrences>Interface tab.

  • Thanks, I think I had actually tried it in my random turning on and off settings when the problem surfaced the first time. Tried it again now after the formatting and on the beta, alas no joy,

  • You could look to see if there's a driver update for your mouse, othe than that I'm not sure what to suggest.

  • Unfortunately that was the only thing that came to mind even to me. I already checked for updates, maybe I'll force unistall and reinstall, see how it goes

  • Did you try to open Task Manager and check the status of cpu/ram/disk and gpu after load DS? And how react when you'll try to move the camera in your scene?

  • I very much doubt that wull help, it's not the result of bad files in your copy of DS (ehich is the only thing uninstall/reinstall is likely to help).

  • @ Marco: yes that's one of the first things I tried, it didn't so much as blip.

@ Richard: (I had actually meant the drivers, not DAZ studio) I rebooted my computer 3 times now after installing a different version of the Logitech drivers (not the one the windows automatically downloads) and, much to my astonishment, it seems to be working now.

Now this may be just a series of coincidences, and the universe is setting me up for a major disappointment, as in the past the issue sometimes vanished only to appear on next restart. But... I'm using the "highly" scientific approach of considering a single event worthless, two events a coincidence and three as the start of real data.

Regardless, I'm going to be an optimist and say you've sold my problem, so thank you very much! As I said in the opening, the stars would have faded before it would have ever occured to me. So thanks a lot Richard, you're the best.

P.S. How do I flag the problem as "solved"?

  • If you really want to tempt providence you can edit the first post to change the subject line to add Solved.

  • Hello again, it's been a week now I've tested DAZ studio at least once per day, maybe even more, not so much as a hiccup. So I guess at least for now the problem is gone. Thanks again for all the help
