How to make prop disappear in animation?

I'd like to make a bangle dissapear gradually during an animation. I've tried reducing it's opacity in the surfaces tab at certain keyframes, but that doesn't work.
For example, 30 frames, Frame 0-15 the bangle reduces to halfway visible, then from 16-30 is where the bangle becomes invisible.
Would anyone know how I achieve this? Thank you!

In 3Delight you can get the time from a Variable brick in Shader Mixer and use that, suitably modified, to drive opacity. I'm not sure about Iray. Another option would be to make two renders of the relevant frames, one with and one without the bangle, and blend them in your editor
Oh that's cool Richard! Great idea. I'm going to toy with this some more.
You could probably script this pretty easily, and decrease the opacity from 100 to 0 begining at the frame you want, and over however many frames you want. I did something similar to simulate a candle flickering. I've found the scripting interface to be very powerful.
will Casuals Matanim script work in iray?
