Harpwood Trail - Forest Drive does not render.

XanathonXanathon Posts: 88

I bought the new Harpwood Trail - Forest Drive yesterday, but I cannot get it to render. I let the computer run over nicht, but after 10 hours it was still at zero percent.

I can render the other Harpwood sceneries just fine, and my render machine is an i7 with a GTX 1080 TI, so this should work nicely. But it does not.

Any ideas?

Edit: If I cancel the render DAZ Studio crashes.

Xanathon

  • In Render Settings, what do you have set for Instance Optimisation (assuming you are using Iray)?

Yes, I am rendering in iRay.

Instancing optimisation is set to "Speed".

Edit: If I set it to "memory" the scene renders. Quite absurd since the video card has 11 Gig of video ram ...

It's pretty much standard procedure to switch to memory for any seriously instanced scene.

  • Yes, Memory does seem to be necessary more often than not with populous scenes

It's interesting though that there's so much difference between these two setttings. It starts rendering in less than a minute when set to Memory but it takes hours (if it ever starts) when set to Speed.

I never had that issue before - and I was rendering quite complex scenes in the past ...

it is to me at least ridiculous it is set to speed by default

I never found it to be any faster even in scenes without instancing

and surely DAZ can make it revert to memory if a certain amout or any instances present or at least pop up a dialogue box suggesting or enabling it to be if instances present upon clicking render.

But where they using a lot of instances?  The Instance Optimisation only affects instances.
