Can I consolidate DS & Poser files

If I load Genesis 2 essentials in the 'People' folder and the PCF files in the 'Poser Formats/Riuntime/Libraries/Character' folder I end up with 2 copies of the DUF. If I open DS and go to the 'Poser Formats/Riuntime/Libraries/Character/Genesis 2' folder I can see the CR2. Is there any drawback to loading Genesis 2 this way? Can I deldte the copy in the 'People' folder?

  • Do you actually need the Poser files?

I use poser a lot and I'm adding DS to the mix. After posting, I looked at the other (MAT Files etc.) and found that they are entirely independent so I may not be able to do it anyway. I'd still like to know for my own knowledge anyway.

  • I think it may vary - theer may not be DS materials in the Poser files, at least to the extent of having presets to match the mc6 files and it's possible that the .duf file for loading the figure may sometimes lack the materials in DS form since they won't be needed.

I don't care about that. If there are no poser files, I can't use them either way. I'm just looking for a convenient way to sort content.

Here is what I have done:

I added the runtime/libraries/Character folder as a Daz Studio Format. I filled a Folder with MC6 and Duf texture files. If I look at them as a Poser Format, I can only see the MC6. If I look at them as a DS Format I can only see DUFs. They both use the same png's as a thumbnail. This is NOT using PCFs but I believe they will work as well

If I use the Poser library to access the folder, its going to show only the MC6's. Unfortunately, P3DO, which I use for Poser is going to show all the files and won't use the same PNGs

Admittedly this is not a common way to do things but it does meet my needs. I'll post again when (if) this blows up in my face.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Having nested content directories - that is, having a folder seelcted as a (Poser) content directory and afolder within that selected as a (Daz Studio) content directory - is likely to cause confusion when DS is generating relative paths for saves. As long as there's a matching Poser-fomrat files (even if it's empty) DS will see it and load it from the Poser library folder (it will be marked by a scroll icon at top-left of the thumbnail in the content pane).

    Thank you.

  • I haven't really used DS since 4.5/4.6, so this may be wrong.
    - A Poser 'Runtime' within a DAZ Studio 'Content Directory' is the norm*.
    - A DS Content Directory within a Poser Runtime is asking for trouble...

*Every (or possibly just most) DAZ Studio Content Directory contains a sub-folder 'Runtime'. If you've installed DS-only content the 'Runtime' folder will probably only contain two sub-folders, 'Textures' and 'Support'. If you installed an older (I think they like the term 'legacy') item that included both Poser and DS content it'll contain all the Poser files too. If you just installed Poser content you probably installed it to a Poser-specific 'Runtime', so there won't be a DS Content Directory above it.
