G3 Male and Skins

I've been trying to reduce the shine (which is stronger than what it looks like in the screenshot) of a g3 male figure's skin, using services, but have had limited success. (The figure's skin almost throws off its own light.)

Do I need to apply a skin texture, to solve the problem?

I noticed 'Merchant Base Skin Essentials for Genesis 3 Males'.  Would that work?

    Iray or 3dlight?

What I noticed for those "Merchant Ressources":
The authors ever include a certain glossy shine into the base color (formerly called diiffuse) texture as well as darker areas created by shadows of unevenness.
OK - because in a photograph you see all components in this one picture. But the architecture for surface shaders in this 3D programm is way different. A vendor has to eliminate glossy shine, translucency effects, shadows from displacements, etc. from the pure surface color. But up to now non of the vendors does do it.

I'm using 3dlight.    But I want the figure to look normal even beofor the render.  ...like most of my figures do.

Do you think that merchant resource would work?  Or should I find a skin that does not change the look of the character, and apply it?

I can't seem to reduce it any lower in the Surfaces tab.

I really don't have any idea why they do this in the "merchant ressources".
After the first experience I returned the product. Better you try with the "usual" skin textures available.

Additionally you may have a look on the different Skin tutorials and evaluations on DeviantArt. There are a lot of parameter proposals which are worth to try out.

You mean you have no skin texture applied?

If you have applied a proper 3Delight skin, it should be a simple matter of adjusting glossiness or some other specular setting. IMO it would be smarter to learn how to tweak the settings to get the desired result, than trying out different products and not being happy with the results. The render you attached is so small I can't see the issue. Please provide some more information, and I'm sure we can solve this thing;)

Edit: If you select your figure in the scene tab, and go to the surface pane, you should see in the upper left corner the name of the shader being used. (DS default, UberSurface, AoA SSS or something similar) Useful piece of information;)

    Thanks for the replies!

After reading them, I decided to apply a proper, new skin.  I had trouble locating one, but I'll see if  it works.
