Cleaning Out Auto_Adapted Folder?

Whenever I bring in Poser assets into a scene and then save it all as either a Scene or Scene Subset, DAZ Studio always ends up putting a whole lot of stuff into the auto_adapted folder. If, later on, I decide to delete the scene or scene subset, all of that 'crap' that was created in auto_adapted is still there. If I look through that directory, I have no idea what stuff is and isn't still required for my existing scenes. So I'm afraid to just boldly delete stuff in case it's still used. This seems like a fundamental problem that really hasn't been solved. I don't suppose there's any safe, automated way of cleaning out this directory, is there?

Which D|S version are you using? Older versions used to work like that, saving the data for converted non-native-file objects into the /data/auto_adapted/ folder, but for the last few versions this data has been folded into the scene file you save it in.
Is that the full story? My experiences say otherwise. Loading a Poser product for the first time generates the auto_adapted .dsf files. Why that is, and what it is supposed to do when saving seems to be a matter of some debate. There was a thread about auto_adapted files for a specific product recently. Anyway, how and if the auto_adapted files are used or not, they were not there the first time you loaded the Poser product, so if they are not there the next time you use it, I'm pretty sure it will load properly again. But, you don't have to take my word for it, try it yourself. Move or rename the auto_adapted folder (you can always move/rename it back), load a Poser product and see what happens. Save your scene then check the contents of the file to see what it is loading from where.
If someone has a different experience, by all means, show us.
Even the current versions use Auto_Adapted for Poser content - OBJ is embedded though. I was confused by this and asked.
