3rd Party Content Installation

I have read certain rules about discussing topics in a forum, hopefully not violating anything with regards to forum rules. I'm really having a hard time installing 3rd party content. Is there a step by step tutorial or a e-manual I could follow? I actually browsed through the freebies section and found some things I could use for my render, but I could not get them installed nor can I see it in the content library. I really want to create more diverse and realistic renders. Could someone please help me out?

  • The trouble is that not all zips are packed the same way, so it isn't possible to give universal instructions. There's also the issue of whether the item is in DS format, Poser format, or some other format.

  • I had a lot of trouble with this when I first got into Daz.

I'll give you a brief explanation.

    1) Verify the 3rd party item is in Daz3d format. If its in poser format you have to go through some hoops I'm not going to explain here. Generally any decent site will clearly state the format of the asset.

    2) Download the asset, it will generally be a zip file.

    3) Open the zip file with some utility that allows you to navigate the archive and extract the files to an arbitrary location.

    4) You need to find the folders that match up to the way the Daz3d content library are laid out. In particular you'll be looking for folders such as people, props, data and runtime.

    5) You want to extract that entire mass of folders to, this assumes you are running Daz3d on a windows machine and have not changed any of the defaults, My Documents/Daz 3d/Studio/My Library/

This will result in you having two parrelel sets of content in Daz. the stuff installed by the Dim will appear right where it has always been but there will also be another basically identical set of folders labeled My Library instead of My Daz 3d Library.
