Headshop 11 crashes: "Daz model not found"

Every time I try Headshop, it ends in a "Daz model not found" error and a fatal crash.
Possibly-relevant information:
- Daz is installed in the default C:\Program Files folder.
- My Daz library is on a secondary data drive.
- The product library page shows a link for DIM installation, but Headshop doesn't appear in my DIM.
- I install Headshop via the manual installer, using default settings.
This post recommends loading the figure from DAZConnet and/or saving the model as a scene. I've tried both, but the error persists.
Here's what I do:
- Launch Daz.
- From Smart Content, load Genesis 2 Base Female.
- Edit > Start Headshop.
- The Surface and Geometry lists don't appear, so I check View/Change Figure Settings to make them appear.
- Surface Selection is correct (Face and Lips), but Geometry to Morph is incorrect (head, lEye, rEye), so I uncheck lEye and rEye.
- Click Accept; Headshop launches.
- Close the Start Learning dialog.
- On the Create New Project dialog, blick the Browse area and select a photo.
- The photo loads with keypoints correctly identified, but immediately a dialog appears: "Headshop / Daz model not found".
- Click OK on that dialog.
- Click Apply on the Create New Project dialog.
The following error dialog appears, titled Microsoft.NET Framework:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: fileName.
Then there's a lengthy Detials section.
Is there a way to resolve this? I don't usually return products for a refund, but so far this one is frustrating...and I haven't even gotten to use it yet.
Comments
After posting my question, I found a comment in this forum post that suggested resetting the Temporary Files and DSON Cache Folders to their default settings.
I've done this, and I'm now able to use the program.
This seems like a preventable bug in Headshop. Since Daz decides where temp/cache files live, Headshop should be able to easily look up those settings (from the Windows registry, I assume) and use the correct Daz-specified locations. Numerous people seem to be hitting this preventable error, so I'd like to suggest that Abalone consider correcting this problem.
And since others are hitting this problem, I'll leave this post in place even though two others mention it. This one has a post title that directly references the specific error message, so it should be easy for people to find. I'll also link to this post from the other two posts that mention the problem in their post content.
Even after resetting the folders to their defaults, Headshop sometimes throws this error. For me, it's happening more than 50% of the time.
I've definitely seen this happen when I have the wrong figure type selected -- for example, if I load G8, but I forget to change the Headshop dialog from its default of G2. I suspect it might happen if I forget to manually de-select eyes from the Geometry section. But just now I had it happen several times in a row when everything was set correctly.
It seems some of these errors can be avoided by restarting Daz between every run of Headshop.
Abalone might want to add some try/catch error handling around this section, with additional error details, since it seems to be problematic.
The facial recognition and texture mapping algorithm is impressive. Geometry mapping seems decent. It's hard to get the face's tone to match the color of the base figure. But for me at least, the program crashes too often to be worth the frustration.
The great thing about Facegen Pro is that it automatically makes adjustments so the face matches the body.
I want to like Headshop 11 and even buy it, but I read about waaayyy to many bugs and glitches.
BrightShadow, can we skype? I want to see what causes the frequent errors you describe. So far no one observed these the way you do.
My skype name is lasloves, I am in California. BTW: I would not recommend unclicking the lefteye and righteye on geometry with Gen 3 and Gen 8.
Having experienced how terrible Headshop OneClick is - it would take a tidal wave of rave reviews and a much bigger discount to get me to take a gamble on Headshop 11. You can occasionally get Facegen Pro near the same price - I'd stick with the leader.
