Help with ColorWerks Hair Shaders for Iray

As the title suggests I am having trouble with ColorWerks Hair Shaders for Iray. Every time I place a base color it looks nothing like the sample image in the content library. The hair color looks way to fake and cartoony in the actual render. I've tried changing the shine, turning off Headlamp in render settings, and changing the Base Mixing but I still can't get it right. Can anyone help me with this problem and has anyone else had this problem before?

  • Have you tried fully rendering the hair? I have some of the hair as well and it tends to look awful during the early stages of the render. Also how are you lighting the render? Hair seems to be very dependent on lighting.

Here is that preset applied to Coleraine Hair.  The look is going to depend on a lot of factors such as the opacity maps of hair (as the opacity map stays the same), the geometry of the hair, and the lighting.

Things I would look at to potentially tune the look:

    1. Never use the headlamp.
    2. Try adjusting the cutout opacity lower.
    3. Try the tiling options in the Utilities folder.
    4. Have lighting come from an angle and not straight on from the front or back.
    5. Lower Translucancy weight.
    6. Do a final render, not just an Iray preview.

  • I've done full renders, still looks the same. I usually don't bother with lighting and the hair still comes out fine with any other hair style with It's own colors. I'll try some of these tips though when I get the chance. Thanks for the help.
