something is very wrong

How to explain? Im going to upload a couple pics to show what im dealing with. Im working with recent version 4.10 daz studio. First, im not getting the proper screen when opening daz studio. I dont have the gizmo manipulation tools on the screen. and when I put a character into the scene it shows up only on the auxilary view pane. Also the DIM is showing it is downloading but it is not installing all items. I keep coming up with a screen that says this item does not exist. Im not a computor wizard so im not going to try and move files and stuff. I didnt even get some of the items that come with daz studio. You can see where where the scene tab shows the item but it is not seen in the main viewport. Ive tried going back to default settings and it doesnt do anything; it doesnt put it back to default settings. Even tried different styles but that doesnt bring back the gizmo and manipulation tools. If anyone knows whats happening here I could use some help.

Since you are dealing with two different issues, one of which may have nothing to do with the other, lets focus on one at a time, starting with your interface.

"I dont have the gizmo manipulation tools on the screen"

I think that you are referring to the Viewport Controls that normally appear in the upper right corner of the Viewport. Well, unfortunately, that is an issue that arose some time ago with the interface and has not been resolved, insofar as I am aware. It occurs when you have both the left and right hand panels of the workspace open/expanded. The Viewport does not resize correctly to compensate, leaving the controls hidden beneath the right hand panel. Richard Haseltine has suggested closing the Shader Mixer and Shader Builder tabs as a workaround, then saving your layout. Otherwise, you might close either the right or left hand panels, which should expose the viewport controls. Resizing the panels might also work. But it is an annoying bug and hopefully they will get it fixed eventually.

As far as the workspace and the missing manipulation tools goes:

in the image you have called "capturedaz01", down at the very bottom of the workspace square, there's this wee tiny two-headed arrow handle. Try clicking on that and dragging it up to the top of the workspace. (It may or may not also work to just double-click on it.) I don't have that double arrow on mine, and that usually means that something can be/has been moved or closed. It may be that somehow, your workspace closed, sort of.

That's about the only thing I can suggest for that issue. If that doesn't help, I hope someone else can.

As for the second issue shown in "capturedaz02", your database isn't starting for some reason, which I think means that Smart Content can't find any of your content. Someone wiser in the workings of the database will need to help you with that one.

I don't see a "Viewport" tab.  You can open one and place it in the center.  Windows>Tabs(Panes)>Viewport

Yes, this seems to be the issue. You can also try reloading your workspace (Window>Workspace>Select Layout).

as for the seond issue, do you have PostgreSQL installed? What is your security software?

  • Thanks for the response everyone. Im going to try these suggestions and see what happens when im able to get to my computer. If I learn anything and am able to resolve these issues Ill post what worked and what didnt.

Rich, I had that exact same exact problem crop up on me once a couple of days ago with the PostgreSQL message. I'm not sure why it happened, but it occurred after I had installed new content using DIM. I had Daz 4.10 open and then closed it prior to starting DIM and installing the content. After that, I closed DIM and about a minute or two later I started Daz up again and that is when the aforementioned PostgreSQL message popped up.

Whatever it was, it seemed to resolve itself after I closed Daz, waited a couple of minutes, and started up Daz again. I use McAfee.

  • If you close DIM and launch DS, or vice versa, then it's possible for PostgreSQL to still be shuttng down from the first application as the other starts, so that the runing check fails and you end up with no PostgreSQL once everything is done. It's OK to have both DS and DIM running at once, or you can make sure you leave enough time for the first application and PostgreSQL to close before starting the second (as you in effect did to resolve the issue).

  • Well, I figured out the view port problem. That is, for some reason I had to go to windows and the panes tab and bring out the view port. That was simple but bizzarr. Now, Im not getting the PostgreSQL message. Im just getting message that this item does not exist. I dont know if Daz or the dim is connecting with the internet, or if daz studio is connecting with the dim. But I am connected to the internet. I have Norton for my antivirus but I have never had a problem with it before. So cant understand why now. It may be a matter of just re-downloading the dim. Ill try that and see what happens

  • Find the product that has non-existent files in the Products tab of Smart Content. Does it have a triangle in a circle icon at top-left of the tumbnail? If you right-click on it does it have an Uninstall option (if not it should have Install instead)?
