Converting Genesis (G1, G2, G3, G8) backwards to Version 4 (M4, V4, D4)?

(Sorry in advance for the harsh use of CAPS)... Please read the title carefully. I have absolutely ZERO interest in converting M4/V4 to use with newer figures. I am ONLY interested in going "backwards."

----------------

I realize that this is unlikely, but I am interested in converting conforming clothing for the new figures backwards to use with the older Micael 4 / Victoria 4, David 4 figures.
(Why? Because I primarily use Poser and it takes too much effort to work with the Genesis figures in Poser).

I'm going to reach out to both RiverSoft Art Sickleyield and see if they can help, but I thought I would start here.

Evilinnocence's Crossdresser program can convert items from Genesis 1 to various figures including gen 4 figures (you need to export them from DS as cr2 first, and to own the XD license for the target figures). It doesn't support G2M/F or later figures though.

So you can try converting from newer figures back to G1 with autofit (you will need to purchase or create the clones for that), then using XD on the G1 version to go back to V4/M4.

No guarantee on the quality of the result though....

There seems to be more compatability between V4 and G1, and to a lesser (slightly?) extent G2; so the best way to start is from G1.

G1 has (at least mine does) the Victoria 4 shape, hidden.

Dial this in (may need to set parameters) and export as an obj (base resolution) and you can use it as morph target for Genesis shapes; there is a tutorial somewhere. I know G8 has the genesis figures, but don't recall if the Victoria 4 is also available - Im thinking not; if not transfer to Genesis then to V4; it isn't a complicated process, except that for earlier figures with less compatability of vertices, more tweaking may be required.

The most time-consuming part of the pre-process (if not available) is poses for the figures that match that of the target.

    Edit:

I've not transferred backwards, only from G3 to G8 and some G2 to G8. G2 normally takes longer when that tweakage is required.

Sorry about the dodgy writing. Genesis with V4 shape applied; G8F with Genesis shape applied.

I looked, Victoria 4 is not available on G8F

  • Thank you both. This weekend I'll look into the processes you described.

If you are only interested in  the new clothing and not the character/figure morphs
why not export the clothing meshes as .obj file from Daz studio
and using the Poser "fitting room"??

There is a Poser Die hard ,on the SM forums, ( SGBryan ??)
who claims he can convert any Geness clothing item to any
of the Old Legacy poser figures in "less the sixty seconds"
    in the  Poser fitting room.

That is a very interesting point. I seldom really mess with the "Fitting Room" because it is a bit fiddly to work with. I definitely need to look at that again and see what I can do with it.

Thanks for giving me something to think about AND someone to look for in the old SM forums.
