Does anyone else think it's kind of weird that we're getting so many new base figures figures rushed out so quickly?  Poor Diego came out on August 22nd and got kicked out early, then we had the Centaur 8s on August 30th, and here we are on September 5th with the fourth new official base figure in 15 days?  Especially since we're in the middle of a sale thatt's supposed to be promoting PAs, not DAZ original product?

And that's not the only way that it feels like DAZ is rushing.  I did eventually get a purple banner offer - not surprising since I own every G8 base figure and bought the Pro Bundles for all but Elllios and Ollie, BUT, and this is a DAZ Troll sized but, it's only good until the end of the day.

expect more if memory is correct last year there were a few during this sale though they do seem to churn them out mostly every two weeks now

I think she's adorable so into my cart she went along with some add ons my 20% off as well as a store credit I got from some promotion. I guess I'm the odd one because the only incentive I need to make a purchase is that I want it. I don't only buy things at Daz based on what else I get with it.

The reason I like this release (other than the fact that I like the character) is the 20% coupon. As you said, we're in the middle of the PA sale. To be honest, I find the sale a bit underwhelming. We're used to 60% sales throughout the year, so a 50% sale is just not something that gets me excited. With the 20% coupon of Babina, I can get quite a few of the PA sale items that I would otherwise just ignore.

I'd be more inclined to agree if they hadn't rolled out most of the PAs who rarely go on sale and left us with the ones who do... and not even all of those.  Since my purple banner expires at midnight, I'm not seeing a lot of things I want that that I can't reasonalbly expect to eventually go on sale for the same price when there's not all the hoops of this sale to jump through.  Ironic, since I bought a huge GC in advance of this sale...

Ditto. For the most part, Core characters tend to have superior skin and morphs, not to mention HD. Up until Nix's release, I was concerned that I was not going to have enough high-quality male skins to go with Kimo and Lee 7. And then came Christian and so on; so, I'm quite pleased to see another female with skin that looks so well-done. I'm so glad Daz opted out of the two-year cycle, although I dislike Genesis 8's twisty biceps and dented lats.

She looks to me like Victoria 8's younger sister. I don't really have a use for her, but overall the clothing looks nice--a lot of contemporary stuff with kitbash potential.

This is super nitpicky, but I miss the collage-style main images for core character bundles. They made them easy to identify at a glance when browsing and set the characters apart a bit.

This jumped out at me too. The other change is now the character image is fairly close up instead of around a 3/4 shot. The latter gives the characters a little more personality.

Liking the add ons in the bundle is a plus, but even for characters and bundles that I really like, sometimes I pass at the time... Like Latonya 8. I liked the character and thought it was a very fun bundle, didn't buy her at launch time.

    ...

I don't particularly love this Babina bundle, but I'll get it. IMO Daz skimpwear & naughty- type outfits tend to be hit or miss due to the family friendly requirements (I really wish Daz had a separate storefront that sold things that wouldn't work in the main Daz catalog). There are better places for edgy party wear.

This is one launch where I think she's a bit handcuffed due to the Daz library requirements. She'll still sell, but she could sell better.

Not all of us get the 20% discount you all are mentioning. The Diego 8 and Gabriella 8 were an easy buy for myself, given all the extra items I could get. It really made it feel like a bundle, unlike this one. This isn't for me, but good for you if it is.

Well, we've got another screwup with the texture sets. I suspect that the SKU# of the texture set for Mada's outfit (dForce Inspire outfit) is really similar to the Boho Days outfit texture set and one fgot substituted for the other.

Because I can't recall the last time that we got a new outfit from Mada which didn't either come with multiple textures, or had an add-on texture set released with it.

They probably didn't intend the Boho Days stuff to be released until later.

Nice new model. But a bit like Bridget in that you wonder "What's the point?" Comes with another collection of overdone makeup, but at least we get enough more or less bare faced promos to have an idea of what she looks like.

Most of the bundle outfits don't really look like anything I need, but one or two of the add-ons might be useful. Lots of pose packages this time.

A same that the banner offer is only good today. It's probably goingg to take longer than that to sort out the texture set mixup.

oops your right name soooo close alike bugger it - I'm tired I'll blame that as of now nearly 3am so I blame that but yeah again name is almost same thing, think this happened before maybe more than once textures were released before the product they were made for was released. Looked up boho clothing can't see anything that really resembles it

I'm worried that the base outfit won't be released today before the 20% off coupon expires.  I want the textures, but need the outfit.  If it happens the they don't get it in the store before the coupon exprires, how will we stilll get the 20% off? Someone has already put in a ticket, but should more of use do it? Or will Daz say 'oops sorry too bad'.

How we make a ticket for something like this? Where do you go?

Click "Help" at the top of the bar and click "Contact Us" on the next page that opens, and then click "Submit ticket."

That's where you would go to submit the request. I'm not sure if you'll need to take a screenshot of your cart or your coupon, or what they'll want in specific, but I'd go ahead and submit the request. I don't know if they'll be willing to give you the discount later, but they have responded in the past to when there was a mistake on the sale with an option to pick something up, so there's a chance they might.

    Good luck with that.

  • Once again, I despair at people rating a base figure depending on which extras they do or don't get in bundles... What gets included in those is irrelevant to the base figure's artistic worth. All you're doing is rating the marketing department's decision-making, not whether or not the actual character is any good. Most customers won't be able to afford the bundles, in any case. I know I've hardly ever bought any.

Look at the figure -  forget whichever hair it happens to be posed with. As purely a figure in a bald configuration (as any figure can be used with any hair product compatible with its generation), is the shape and/or skin particularly useful? Or will it somehow add something unique to the diverse range of presently avilable characters, such as unusual shaping morphs, intriguing cosmetic options or eyes? Or is it largely something which already exists elsewhere?

I can understand why people do this when a new bundle comes out because for those of us who do buy pro bundles, it's a really good way to get a big chunk of content for one price. And because there are usually decent benefits to buying at release, there's a lot to consider in whether or not you like the character and bundle enough to buy it right away.

There's also the consideration that for core characters, if you buy a few items from the set the bundle loses a lot of value. If I like a core character but I'm not ready to spend a lot of money on their addons and bundle items, I'll usually wait for a steep discount on the whole thing later down the road rather than purchasing any of the items individually, especially the base character. There are a few characters I've never picked up despite liking most of their associated stuff, because early on I bought a few of the higher-value items individually and now buying the character + items I still want individually would cost a lot more than just waiting for the pro bundle to drop to $17 like they very occasionally do.

For a characters like Mrs. Chow and Mr. Woo and even Zelara I remember seeing a bunch of discussion of what they bring to the G8 pool, but for a character like Babina I think it's harder to say much? I don't care for her because she doesn't particularly add anything that can't be accomplished with existing morphs and textures from dozens of similar characters that are already available, both from PAs and other core characters. She really looks like a slightly less distinctive V8 to me, and the only thing that distinguishes her from other characters in her type that would make her have more or less value to me is what she comes with. People who like her, though, are going to buy her because they like her. I've picked up characters I already had similar models for because when you like a specific aesthetic, tiny differences are more meaningful.

  • I like the base figure and raver hair. Nothing else really enthuses me. The deal is passable I may do alacarte this time

  • I like Babina!  But not her bundle.

Really like Babina; has a late 20s look, which is a tough one imo. Could pass for older or younger but easy to believe she's around that.

Not sure yet if I fancy the bundle as a whole, although I love the dforce hair that is included.

    +1

What's in the bundle influences how good value the bundle is. Personally I always buy a bundle on it's overall value; individual products have no bearing beyond adding sufficiently to its value to make me want to buy.

I'm currently trying to decide if the 10 items in the bundle other than the dforce hair are worth the $25 to me; I like Babina, so that's a plus. Not sure on the rest, as although I like everthing, I don't have any glaring needs. Of course pretty much all I buy is not because of need, so thinking about it. I do like keeping my store credit though. :D

  • I'm feeling the same as almost everyone else. Babina is OK... but Victoria 8 and Zev0's youth morphs can probably achieve a similar effect. The Boho dress texture is a very cool outfit, but without the base outfit - I don't want to end up paying $25 for the actual content to get the texture to work.

Likewise - prices are still higher than in past sales, and discounts are not as deep, and stacking is rare... altogether - it is making me want to hold onto my store credit this sale.

I rate the entire bundle sometimes because there have been cases where I didn't like the base figure but there was enough stuff in the bundle to make it worth buying.  I'm really not sure if this one will be a buy, even with the coupon.  To me, Babina's chin looks really odd.  The chin is quite pointy and has a cleft.  For me, faces are the make-or-break on characters, while a good body sculpt is a bonus.  The skin quality is probably quite good but it's not exactly standing out in the crowd.  (I'd love to know what light set was used for image 12 - https://www.daz3d.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/thumbnail/689303033aebc8cae535000c73c8db4b/b/a/babina-extra-01.jpg.  If the character looked like that in all the shots, I'd probably buy it just for the skin.)

More diversity would be nice:  Arabian, Latin American, and Native American would be a great start.

  • I bit and bought the bundle (don't everybody gasp in shock now).  The 20% off was enough, I liked the hairs and can use the clothes.  Didn't get a whole lot of add-ins, picked up some other stuff from the 50% off artists I wanted (which was 60% off with the coupon).  Frankly I didn't miss the "free" stuff, it was getting down to stuff that I didn't want to further clutter my hard drive with even if it was free.  If buying extra add ins helped the price I probably would have picked up some.

If true interesting but Urban Dictionary is mostly made up by trolls though. Babina does sound to me as if I heard in before when I was little so I did look it up via search and it turns out it is the Polish word for poor old women. That explains why it sounds vaguely familiar to me I probably heard it in reference to the old polish widow next door who they told me to call Vashka (Babcia, Babushka) .

Actually remembering more of childhood The Babe, Babe Ruth was called the Bambino which is an Italian masculine diminutive nickname and the feminine version of that would be Bambino I think.

Anyway, Babina is a cute name.

Thanks for the info, nonesuch00. I've got a render cooking now with Babina planting a Polish flag (because Polish girls rule), and I thought she looked vaguely Eastern European.

  • Babina out the box.  Just a quick render just to see her skin.  I find her skin to be very lovely, so cute with her tan lines.
