I think it's interesting and the morphs could be good. We'll have to see. More videos are supposed to be coming. It says on YouTube that they're expecting a March release.
This would solve my problem of not getting iClone 7 facial mocap into DS. It gets around it with a Daz centric solution.
The new iPad Pros come with a TrueDepth camera but they're in between an iPhone X and iPhone 11 price wise. It should work as it's the same app. iPhone X was around a $1,000 a few months ago. I have an android that cost around $67 but if this is any good an iPhone X and the new plugin may be tons cheaper than the iClone version. Might be better than a new video card or more RAM.
The price has been coming down some places for the iPhone X, down around $400US... hopefully cheaper for you in Australia, Wendy.
for a phone?
my android cost $40 and makes calls
nah would rather buy more RAM with that
I couldn't agree more, LOL. I have a $200 samsung I got for $45. I can't see paying more than a hundred for a phone myself. My GF has the latest Iphone which work bought for her since she uses it for work. I keep teasing her, so what you gonna do if you get let go, invest over a grand for a freakin phone, LOL I guess everyone has different priorities.
i won't touch iphone anything with a stick, lol. I tried an ipad and it gave me SO many issues from installing and uninstalling stuff and constantly locking me out it was a PITA i gave the darn thing away and never went back. Android or nothing! Hope to see this awesomeness for android. I can see it being something i'd actually use for some reason.
Looks impressive
However I won't buy back into the Apple ecosystem just for this.
....I would rather do the tedious work of building a face rig for G2 in blender and using it's motion tracker to capture from any video of my face for zero USD.
well there are other options and some of them might be useable in DAZ studio too, just need to wait for people to do the coding, I know of at least one other being worked on but it's non commercial because of the huge price point of using it commercially.

Is that non-commercial meaning all mocap produced by end-users with it must be given away for free, or is that non-commercial as in the makers of the program are avoiding every componant that has licensing-requirements attached if they incorporate it into their program? 0o

That was better than I was expecting. I only have a tiny 4" iPhone SE so it's a no go for me as the actual face capture isn't anything the Face Mojo SW authors wrote but Apple wrote natively for the iPhone X & iPhone 11. They must translate the data files into DAZ Studio G8 format in a DAZ Studio plugin.
I'd rather buy that Face Mojo than dork around with the publically funded OpenFace having the gall to ask us in the public to pay a second time for that research & training.
I guess if I do do face capture I'll have to use Blender & a web cam on my desktop.
On YouTube they say it will be under $100. That's $299 less than iClone's version not counting other software you'll need there. And it will work with a new iPad Pro with the TrueDepth Camera. around $750 for the iPad Pro 11. They also are working on a version for Maya and other software, besides more animation software for Daz Studio..
There are so many cameras that can track depth, but they go with an iphone? Plus the incredible irony of this iphone app not working with the Mac version of Daz.
At any rate you couldn't give me an iphone or any Apple product, so this is not an option for me if that is all it is for.
You need to title this "New Face MoCap Coming...but for iphone" so that people wont flood this thread with posts of disappointment.
Used to be a Mac love fest here years ago. But one of the plugin developers expressed a hope to have an android version. Samsung has a version of a camera phone that uses the same principles behind the TrueDepth camera and I think it also is tied to animation of some kind besides face id.
The PrimeSense camera on the Xbox Kinect can capture facial motions. Unfortunately Apple bought PrimeSense so that they could produce Face ID and silly emoji apps on the over-priced $1000 phones. If you don’t have or want an iPhone, and don’t plan to do a lot of facial motion capture, you can borrow an iPhone or iPad pro. That is - ask a friend or relative with one to hang out for a few hours and help do the motion capture. The alternative is to look for a refurbished (or sale) current generation iPad Pro. Which is more useful for artists. Make sure you get a TrueDepth camera not the FaceTime camera.
Refurbished iPad Pro 11 or used on ebay with the TrueDepth cameras are around $640 - 700. You can find iPhone X for $400 - 500. Borrowing is a good option, too. I know a lot of folks with iPhone X (they are big on fancy phones). This is the only reason I would get anything from Apple.
I found Polywink and it's 299Euros and doesn't seem as flexible.
That one is based on the FACS AUs, just as is ARKit, so they're probably very similar. My problem with PolyWink, and the same problem I think this will have, is that the morphs don't look correct for every head model.
At least they have some tongue movement which iClone doesn't, and one of the developers has made adjustments to some of the morphs to correct problems he was encountering.
There are tons of Xbox kinect cameras that can be bought for less than US $100 on eBay. The original 360 kinect can be under $20, yes, $20. I am not a calculator, but I think those prices are significantly cheaper than buying an iPhone that I don't want for one single app.
Microsoft kinect is also not dead. Just last year MS released a brand new Azure kinect sensor that is 4k. This new sensor is not for Xbox at all. https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/24/18237244/microsoft-azure-kinect-developer-kit-price-release-date-mwc-2019 It is $400, though. That's still cheaper than than most iPhones unless you buy used. And not having to buy an Apple product...that's priceless in my book, so its worth every single penny.
At any rate, the point being that kinect sensors are readily available. And kinect is not the only depth sensing camera in the world, there are plenty of others.
Considering that many people's smartphones are an essential part of their life, the concept of borrowing one isn't really possible, either. Would you really let somebody borrow your phone for a few hours? I sure wouldn't. And I wouldn't imagine most people would let me use theirs.
iPad Pro with the TrueDepth Camera is the way to go then, unless you can code and do what has to be done to get the motion data into DS. I'm getting really tired of waiting to get something that works well. The programs that use Kinect aren't that great.
Comments
If the morphs look that good on every face, bye bye Polywink!

like iClone it uses iPhoneX and later though
so no use to me, I won't buy fancy phones

The app does look cool though

it is a way to use the third party software from the university that is free for personal evaluation basically
I have to use an iPhone for work and I hate the closed Apple eco system like hell.
This is very, very impressive - and I have an iPhone! I can't wait to give them as much money as they want.
Finally! Face MoCap for Daz!!!!
Another Face Mojo promo. Very entertaining to watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMVj44w4EUk&t=10s

Any product that makes DAZ more useful...Is welcome.
I hope DAZ can evolve over time, as It's where I feel most comfortable.
They just posted a new video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtJZohQFVNA
I hope Daz gives this a speedy green light!
Does anyone know who the creator of this is?
It seemed from the example Hulk/Girl video it is some South Korean Indy developers
