Can't load Genesis 2 Morphs/Characters

I don't know what's going on, but I've been having difficulties with DAZ ever since I upgraded to 4.6. I installed Genesis 2. Check. I load the female base into the scene. Done. Then I navigate to ANY custom character I downloaded off the internet for Genesis 2 (Not Genesis 1 - I am sure I did not make that mistake) and when I double click, drag and drop, or right click and select "load" my model just stays the base Genesis 2 model, it does not change at all. Can someone walk me through how to do something as simple as load a character morph? My model is selected when trying to load the morphs, by the way.

For just the Figure Shape (morph) you use the Parameters Tab... and Dial the shape only..
For the full figure textures and all you use the Actor icon.. This applies the Base Actor too the Figure...
Both methods require the Content to be installed properly.

It sounds like your doing it right.

Some characters don't need G2F/G2M to load them, like 'FW Eve', Others do need the G2F/G2M loaded first, like 'Maggie'.

It is as simple as you make it sound. for characters that need the Geneses base loaded first (and characters that don't need Geneses loaded first).

Brows over to the character icon wherever it is (Content library, or in the Smart tab), and double-click it. Done, let the render thing calculate all them polygons and textures, and the figure should appear in the 'View screen' somewhere.

    * Sometime the default view of the scene is pointing the wrong direction, that dose make it fun to locate the loaded character.

Steps For characters that get added to Genesis).

Start by loading the Genesis figure as described above.

Select Geneses figure in the Scene tab (Edit, the Genesis figure should get highlighted in the scene), then similar to above...

Brows over to the add-on character/morph icon wherever it is (Content library, or in the Smart tab), and double-click it. Done, let the render thing calculate all them polygons and textures, and the figure should apear in the 'View screen' somewhere.

It is not that difficult, if the daz studio program parts are working properly.

    Nice double Jaderail, lol.

Thanks, but that's another problem I've been having - nothing I have shows up in the Smart Content window, not even the stuff I used the Install Manager for. Because of this, I've been using the Content Library as a workaround.

I should probably also mention that loading morphs in the content library may appear to keep the base model the same, but upon fiddling around with the pose, I actually discovered it loaded another female base on top of the first one. This duplication phenomenon only appears to happen with some morphs, not all of them.

it sounds like the 'Readme.txt' that I have become accustom to everywhere else in the digital industry, is desperately needed here.

I had to fumble threw this, and figure out what figures do and don't need Genesis first. It is exceptional frustrating at times. Let me think about the rest of that a sec.

    Smart content tab,

Is there anything under 'All' for the categories? It dose not mater if your lookiong at figures..., Pose..., or cameras and lighting.

If not, then CMS is not running.
If yes, then it's something else.

You were correct. Task Manager shows the DAZContentManagementService as "Stopped." However, right clicking and choosing "Start Service" doesn't work. "The operation could not be completed. An instance of the service is already running."

...Wait, hold on, let me close DAZ... Nope, still gives me that error.

I restarted the service in "services.msc" and reopened DAZ, but there's still nothing under "All."

And it appears launching DAZ stops the service.

Your not the only one with CMS difficulties. I stumbled across that because I thought it was a "dot net" server I didn't need running, and I'm short on ram in this comp.

Others have not accidentally stopped the service and have similar (not exact) issues. It sounds like that CMS thing is buggy at best.

Heheh, well that makes sense. "Here guys, you can have Daz 4.6 Pro for free, but only because it's broken."

Guess I can't do anything with the program then. Good thing I haven't invested money in it.

Open question with this, What windows 'administrative privileges' dose CMS need to work properly?

What are the signs of a corrupted CMS dll/exe?

Don't just flush the CMS database, only some DIM installed stuff comes back to the tab, and I have yet to get simple easy to follow answers to how to get user saved stuff put back in the tab.

    edit;
II would not say it is broken just yet, my only problem with CMS was the database was corrupted, and my incidental shutting the service off. There are many that are not having any issues with the service.

This can be caused by a few issues...
First the CMS is getting turned off by the users Anti Virus or the Operating System as a None allowed Service.
Second the Content Database file is Corrupted and Crashing the CMS on the Database Load.
Third the MetaData was never Imported creating the Database file, the DIM should have auto done that step if used.

None of this can be corrected until the CMS is running as a Service, it should run at PC boot. I suggest checking the Anti Virus software in use and see if it is Shutting down the CMS as the first step to be done.

User Created Files will not Show in the Smart Content Tab unless they have User created Metadata, all user Created files should show in the Content Library Tab. Content can not be Smart without metadata.

    Well, the "ContentManagementServer.exe" grants permission to Users, Administrators, and System, and even if it didn't, I've been an administrator on this PC since installation day. ^^;

I don't know how to check if something's corrupt though. Sorry for not providing too much info here.

Just Re-install DAZ Studio that will install a Clean CMS and not change any content or Settings in the DAZ Studio program. Please have the bad CMS off or even uninstalled before a DAZ Studio re-install.

Jaderail may be correct, the service crashed on me when I started Daz Studio, after the database turned into a pretzel.

I updated them screen-caps, because this was the second time they were used. Now I just need to truncate it into a smaller easy to understand screen-cap somehow.

Nope, not even an uninstall/reinstall of both DAZ and the CMS helped. I have Comodo Firewall and Avast Antivirus disabled too.

I'm almost curious if the uninstall and re-instal, actually deleted the database files. Or if there is a service that CMS need to function.

Also, the install file to get daz studio into the computer so DIM knows where to put stuff, may have been a bad file... however most installers have a self check (MD5/Par/CRC/etc) of sorts these days.

just thinking out-loud, Jaderail, knows more then I do at this point.

DAZ Studio 4.6.2.120 is the newest Full release version. If added to your Downloads at anytime in the Past (DS4.5 and above I believe) DAZ 3D automatically adds just the newest version to your Products Library in your My Account section.
In your My Products you should have listed a DAZ Studuo 4.6 Pro. If you open that at the VERY bottom it lists every item included for free including the Free Content and Plugins that go with this version... >>See Below<< the three I point out are NOT needed as they are now Built into DAZ Studio and installing them will Break the Program OR cause the built in version to Stop working..</p>

If a User installs the DIM, DAZ Install Manager, and enters the same account information as used on DAZ 3D to buy in the Store, the DIM connects to the Users Products Library. If only the DAZ Studio Free has been bought then DIM will list every Needed file if the user sets the DIM Filters to DAZ Studio 4.5+.
Once the files in the list are Downloaded by DIM the Ready to Install section of DIM can be used. The DIM will install all the files to the proper locations in the proper order for the user and only need information from the user for some things such as 32bit And 64Bit and the location of programs that some plugins may need such as Photoshop or ZBrush. You do not Have to install those plugins and can not if the target files are not on your PC.
Once all is done all the User should need to do is open DAZ Studio and Add the DIM Path for content to the Paths. That is the My DAZ 3D Library folder... If everything does not work The user may need to enter the Pro Serial Number to Activate DAZ Studio to Pro, that will be found in My Account> My Serial Numbers.
If the user still does not have Smart Content function then they need to Check if the CMS is blocked by the Anti Virus they use as it is the most common reason the CMS is not running for a Clean first install. If you have done any installs that were not default then getting to a clean System (programs only, content can stay if installed properly) then getting to a FULL fresh install takes some work.

I am not at this time able to explain a clean removal and start over as I just do not have the time. It has been covered in other threads in the past such as DAZ Studio Discussion and Nuts and Bolts.

Thank you for all your helpful info. I think I discovered the problem with my characters not loading though. The base Genesis 2 model is a .duf file, and loads perfectly fine. The characters I downloaded are all in .dsf format and open as an invisible, blank scene, except for a couple. The ones that are in .duf format give me an error on import. This makes me suspect that my downloaded files are in the wrong directory. I'm going to have to figure out where the proper directory is.

I don't think G2F was released until after DS 4.5, so user fiels would always be in .duf format. If these are free morphs do you have a link to the download page so we can have a look at them?

My download list is too extensive to list everything, but here's the forum page I used to find most of my morphs.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24537/

Here are a couple from that page I have actually downloaded. (This first one requires a separate morph pack)

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/29163/
    http://www.sharecg.com/v/70475/view/21/DAZ-Studio/Missy-for-G2F

I have also gotten some stuff from Renderosity, but that site requires you to log in to see anything.

Update: I moved my files to the default "My Daz 3D Content Library" and now the morphs can be accessed, just not directly like I was trying. However, now, when trying to add clothing, hair, or change the pose, it says "An error occurred when reading the file, see the log for more details"

    Update 2: Nevermind, apparently I didn't have my actor selected. ^^;
