Side Saddle?

Hello 3d artists

I know that the side saddle is no longer fashionable. The question is whether we don't have one here in the online shop or whether I can't find it. The same applies to corresponding poses. Thanks in advance for your advice.

The big problem with side-saddles is getting the skirt (robe, long coat, etc.) on the rider to drape naturally. Even with dForce it would be a pain, and without I think you would pretty much be limited to a garment made to go with the saddle and poses for which the garment hard pre-made morphs for the pose. I'm not sure there ever has been a side-saddle, though it's certainly a product that has been requested.

No idea HOW womans did sit on that, but it looks very unsafe and not stable, how do you get a feeling of safety with that O_O

I need something in my back to feel safe there.

But well when you wanna make a historical correct Render, you maybe want that :P

According to this historical reenactor Side Saddle was easy and perfectly comfortable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_Ogeug8XPc

I saw a woman in authentic garb riding side-saddle at an equestrian event.  Very impressive to watch.

I would also like to see more equestrian equipment.  I have only seen 2 different saddles for DAZ Horse 2.  Most of the horse and rider poses are bareback which is rediculous!  If you go into combat or hunting, as in one of the pictures above, without a saddle, just OUCH.  I think a side saddle like above would be a good addition to the store!

We need more armour and gear for the Horse 2 and poses to go with them (especially ones for the sturrups so they line up with the feet!

In fact there are many things involving Horse2, gear and clothing one could dream of ..... but somehow I have the impression that horses are largely abandoned. Nothing new for a long time.

I really wish someone would make some royal carraiges. That would be awesome.

The horse in the video didn't look stressed or uncomfortable to me.

For short durations, I'm sure its not a problem, but I don't see individuals(especially heavy ones) travelling long distances like that. I'm fairly certain they rode horses like that for short periods of time out of necessity due to the outfits and not so much that it was a preferred way to ride.

Well of course not, long journeys would have been done in a carriage if one was rich enough, or on foot if not. But for hunting excursions or trail riding side saddle would have been perfectly fine. And if a person was that overweight, they wouldn't be able to ride astride comfortably either, so carriages for them as well. And in a time period when horseback was one of the few faster than walking travel forms, horses would have been trained to be accustomed to side-saddle, just like they have to be trained to be accustomed to astride riding. It was a very different time period, and it's really not possible to place modern sensibilities on the past.

Edited to add: Some reading on the subject, since I'm no expert.

It is actually thin ice to project today's view on social issues into our past. One should not walk in the "good or bad" - "politically correct" trap; It was a different time. You could die of the most insignificant injury if the wound became infected... How can we imagine what these people thought and felt?

The historical fact is that it was inconceivable for a lady to be seen in public on a horse differently than with a side saddle - not to speak of regions and cultures of the same period in which a woman on horseback was completely unthinkable. Regardless of whether we like the idea today or not.

Did a test today, because I need a side saddle riding female in around late 17th century

Didn't do any postwork yet, so it's kinda rough..

The saddle I found in this thread and the outfit is a recoloured mix of Universal dForce Dress for G8F and parts from the three addons (maid, x-mas and gothic or so..)

Doing the pose for the lady was not to hard.. but getting the whole scaboozle of cloth to dForce into the proper position, while shoving the saddle under her behind (I didn' do with the horse though.. that would have been too nasty) took nearly 60 minutes on my not too great PC.

So yes, expect long dForce times and quite a bit of postwork to get it done... smiley

  • For this pic https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/747731 I used the normal saddle and made just the pose as if…

The Retro Skirt outfit worked well with dForce for me. You can't see the saddle because the skirt is covering it, so I've got that idea ;)

  • Looks very good to me!

I know there used to be a sidesaddle for the old Poser horse. No clear memory of where it was posted. It was one of Hai Gan's freebies and called 'horsefeathers9 Sidesaddle'. No idea whether it is still online or readily convertable to a different horse model.

  • I know this is an older thread, but I just made available a sidesaddle tack for the Hivewire Horse as a freebie on ShareCG for the few here and there that might be interested in this rare equipment.

It can be found here: https://sharecg.com/v/97479/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Side-Saddle-Tack-for-the-HiveWire-Horse

  • Thank you! Already snagged it up before I even found this thread!
