Of course if you go to the original meaning of the -mancer suffix, 'one who practices a certain form of divination' then a cryomancer would be someone who practices divination using cold or ice. (Like reading the frost crystals of a cryopod to determine the future of the frozen person inside...)  but yeah, I'd have love to have seen a set of ice magic fx and props.

That would also be neat! It would also be cool as part of some kind of underground quasi-religious sect that springs up among the oppressed masses in defiance of the corporate pantheon. You/those people have one future and it's the one we dictate, how dare you try to read anything else into it...

The current usage in pop culture definitely leans toward the magic aspect of things, as has Daz's implementation of it, but this time I don't think they thought that deeply about it either way. In the past they've expended some effort but it really feels like this is part of their trend away from actually caring. They just keep trying to broaden their customer base (I can't tell what they actually think their customer base even is, now), pushing out as much content as quickly as possible which naturally leads to the overall quality slipping, and slapping neat but ultimately meaningless names on things.

I would have bought ice magic fx and props without a second thought. I've got a battlemage character who uses it for crowd control and I still don't have a good set of ice stuff for him.

Edit: It doesn't even look like the CryoLab has icy textures for anything?? It's literally described in the details as an "experimental medical procedure laboratory" and nothing beyond that. There's nothing "cryo" about it, the capsules just look like the kind of float tanks used for healing in Star Wars, Starship Troopers, etc.

It's like Daz named this bundle after a single component that was named something that again, sounded "cool" but has nothing to do with what the product actually is.

It also would've been an instant buy for me. But alas, what we got was a misleading name and no ice.

I would totally buy an ice magic pack too.

It looks like probably some blue icey looking magic in this: https://www.daz3d.com/jepe-s-z-bundle-iv

    And it's PC+ For A Day.

This one too - has snow and blue magic and also PC+ For A Day: https://www.daz3d.com/my-iray-fx

I'll admit the name of the bundle got me super excited at first, thinking there might be some nice cold/ice effects in it.

But no, the only "cold" thing in the bundle is the cryolab.

Am I just confused about what a "cryomancer" is or does the bundle name just not make sense?

The bundle name just doesn't make sense. Cryomancers can control/manipulate ice, in the same way that pyromancers do for fire, electromancers do for electricty, etc.

There is absolutely nothing about this bundle or any of the content that deals with this. They threw in a cryolab, decided the word sounded cool, and that's it. I would usually expect a cyberpunk bundle with a magic twist to be focused on a character that used electromancy or technomancy (and they already have Moirah the Conjurer), and so I was actually kind of excited to see how they worked cryomancy in.

Turns out they didn't even bother.

Glad to know I'm not the only person disappointed about this.

No, you aren't the only one bothered by it. I expected some more prevalent cryo theme going on.

All we got was a cool cryo lab.

I realised I already have a cryo lab (or maybe two), so the bundle is looking less attractive the more I think about it.

I picked My Iray Fx up earlier, and while it has snow what I'm really looking for are dimensional chunks of ice. For some reason that just doesn't seem to be a thing, so I think I may just have to confront Blender and throw an ice shader + emissive on whatever comes out. I know Oso has some fur shaders that come with a really good ice shader, and I would have SWORN that I already owned them but not according to the new store. I saw that Jepe's bundle and I may buy it since it's PFAD, just to see, but I'm not wowed by the previews sadly. No dimensionality and it looks like a lot of the elements are really small and too low-res to scale well. Maybe for out-of-focus background stuff, though, it'd be good to save on resources since my system has so few.

I do have the PTF Magic! shaders and wearables which are nice for the casting component, but for all the fire and electricity packages the store has, the least Daz could've done was give us an ice-specific pack of props and shaders in the cryomancer bundle.

I'm not sure they actually know what the cryo- prefix means, though.

Oh man, thank you! That one looks amazing and I'd completely forgotten about it while waiting for a good sale (that happens with so many things). Then Daz absolutely wrecked my Wishlist during the store change. Hundreds of items delete from it, I've been finding them for days now, and that's one of the ones that got nuked.

Can anyone think of any *good* reason why Mada's new outfit (the one with the cyber arm) would only be available through DAZ Central?

I've already put in a ticket, but wouldn't mind heraing whether anyone else can think of a legitimate reason to not offer it for manual download.

It's probably like all the other products that have had that "Daz Central only" issue over the past few months - in that there likely isn't an installer at all for it right now as Daz Central uses the same installer as Daz Install Manager.

Can anyone see any difference between Millawa 8 Eyes 04 and Eyes 05? I see no difference at all.

That's (by now) a wellknown bug, it's not actually available through Central either, but that's what the store defaults to showing if all download methods are missing.

I'm seeing a difference. 04 should be hazel eyes, 05 should be one hazel eye on her left and a cyber eye on her right eye.

And of course I checked by looking only at the left eye...

For anyone wanting a little more "Cryo" in their lives, this set is in the PFAD (although price hasn't settled yet). https://www.daz3d.com/frosty-and-the-matchstick-man-hd-for-genesis-8-males It comes with an ice slide.
  • Oh perfect. I put it in my cart yesterday to sit and wait for a sale. Guess it won't get much better that that.

  • Hell, I put in a Daz-Deals notification on it for higher than that. Checking out with it pronto in case it ends up being one of the magical disappearing PFAD items we've had so many of.

Is it just another vendor and Daz trying to make as much cash out of their customers as they can without any real effort.

I'd say it's likely a mistake. Given the general chaos going on, plain old human error is quite possible and far more likely than some insidious plan to rip off customers.

There's no mistake, the older product is for G8F and the new one is for both G8F and G8M.

And given how minor a change that is, it hardly warrants being considered a new product. If it were clothing fit to a new figure, sure. But wings just need to be moved into place on a character. Also given that the new Daz Original version contains the entire original product plus a G8M fit, it's truly unlikely that the original product was intended to remain in the store. I've bounced a ticket to see if it's intentional but I don't buy into the malicious intent that Scorpio is implying here. It just seems more likely that something that was meant to be a change of ownership and update of a product was accidently packaged as a new SKU.

I'm not implying 'malicious intent' merely rather uncustomer friendly marketing, its not the first time, just look at the bundles recently that contain old content for an example; the vendors that bring out addons for products and then a few months after release a bundle making it cheaper but early buyers paid more, this doesn't encourage respect or customer loyalty yet it seems to be creeping in more and more.

Not a bad idea. The price has stabilized at $1.99, but better safe than sorry
  • I got it for $1.99, but Daz got me in the same transaction for $4.45 in unowed tax on that "free" pro bundle.

Don't expect I'll hear back from CS beyond "we're having site problems, sorry" or see that money again for a long time.

Is it me or was there a 20% off purple banner when Millwa came out , and then ne next day a 10% off orange banner replaced the purple one? I'm so confused now, that I'll just friggin pass on the whole thing.

Yeah. Apparently that one was in error and the 10% one was the correct one, or something?

Basically the bad deal we got on the first day (small bundle, outfit split across two products, high price tag) was actually not the even worse deal they meant to give us, according to the sale thread comments about it.

No, you're not confused. That's exactly right. I bought that bundle on day one with the purple banner. The next day the orange banner popped up.

You might want to put together a "test cart" or two to see how much you'll really save. There was a deal yesterday of saving more money buying BOTH Cyber Mission & Cryomancer bundles. Not sure if that is still on offer.

You also might come out cheaper if you don't want certain items to just buy them separately as opposed to the bundle.

I did that with the Cryo bundle. I already had a couple cryo labs, didn't need another set of the same expressions, or even the cute Zhao HD (even though I liked her, I have a dozen other cute Chinese girls I have yet to use). I didn't need another set of wings, nor earrings.

I saved a bundle not buying the bundle

Late to this discussion, but a cryo medical lab actually does fit the cyberpunk theme, if you're familiar with the editions of the tabletop roleplaying game Cyberpunk (R. Talsorian Games), which is the primary source material for the new video game. In the Cyberpunk RPG, both the '80s/90s original and the recently released Cyberpunk Red, one of the primary methods of chracter healing is a Cryosystem - putting them in a tank of highly chilled fluid as a form of stasis while they are being treated. The props look like they would work well for this kind of treatment. I'm undecided about buying the set, however, even though I just created a Medtech PC for the RPG, who speicalizes in this kind of work. (When she's not running around in the middle of the mayhem, LOL.) However I do have other sets that have similar props.

I want some ice textures & not just for my Cryosystems Op Medtech. I have a cold themed superheroine character who could use such effects; none of the snow effects I have are quite what I want.
