Video card upgrade

I know there is few threads about this but... I am still confused. My pc is i7 8700k, 32gb ram and 2 x gtx1080 8gb. I was thinking about upgrading one 1080 to 2080rtx.  So I will have after: 1x1080 and 1x2080ti 11gbAnd my question is: is it worth it? Is there will be any big improvement in time renders?

  • Yes, in time, and also (if it matters for you) in available memory - assuming you are using a recent version of DS Iray will be sending extra code to the GPU for RTX features it doesn't suport natively. Of course this doesn't matter if you are not often running out of memory on the 1080.

I think memory is ok, just some renders take too long and they are simple scenes with 2 or 3 figures

  • This thread has some benchmarks for RTX/GTX combos if you want a relative comparison.

For the money you will spend on a RTX 2080ti, if you can get one, you might as well wait for a RTX 3080. The 3080 will be faster than the 2080 ti and less expensive.

I decided to buy 3090 and this was good idea. Works perfectly and very fast
