Fredda is adorable!

Hey all. I just saw fredda in the store and had to pick her up. I think she's a really great and unique character. I did a quick render with her. Let me know what you think. No post work.

  • She is a very cute character, but beware your image will probably be deleted soon as:

    a) No nudity is allowed in the forums.

    b) This character is supposed to be a teenager, so dressing her in nontranslucent clothing is probably better.

I agree it's a very pretty character. But I don't think she has to worry about the translucent clothing so much as the exposed shoulders. Even in the promo pictures.

    That is just really sad

Gotta ask why would exposed shoulders be a no no ??

Wait, what, so, a DAZ teenager couldn't wear a top with straps? Why on earth not?

I'm not sure why. But it was mentioned here:

Yeah, DAZ has told PAs that teenager and children should be dressed appropriately in promos. That includes not showing their shoulders.

so ok to post renders  here in a tank top ? or that no go as well ?

  • @RenderScot, I'm not sure. We get stricter rules when it comes to promos (like male characters should be shown in boxers instead of briefs, for instance), so I think showing a teenager in a tank top in the forums should be ok. So long as the tanktop isn't sexualized in any way.

    Fredda is a really great character with a strange name (in italian language, her name means "cold") ^_^;

But I have a little issue with the hair: the top head skin always pokes through the hair, and there is no adjustment dial to fix it.

I found that it isn't really a poke trough. It's a hole drawn on the cutout opacity mask.

I filled the hole and the issue is fixed.

Thank you! I got her too and was a bit bummed about her hair not working, never thought to look at the maps.

Working or not, the hair's not great.  I was wondering why it was so light above the ear, and found a lot of it isn't even hair, but paint.

    This is the haircap.

But when I was looking at the hair, I found something else that wasn't awesome.  There's a big mismatch between the face and torso skin both with the default settings, and when you use the "Reduce Body Bump" skin option.

Even if you reduce both Face and Torso bump and normal to zero, there's a sharp line between the face and torso texture.  It's a lot less noticeable, but it's also not ideal for close-ups.

For comparison, this is Fredda with Daisy 8's texture

The hair is bad, whatever.  It wasn't the main draw.  But the texture is a ticket.

A couple of promos actually do show shoulders though. So either Daz didn't notice, which frankly is a very real possibility given how QA has been lately, or this character is not actually a teenager. FYI, if people remember, one of Rarestone's recent clothing releases caused major confusion because the young girl wore a scarf in all her promos, and it turned out that scarf was not part of the package. This led to some complaints, but the bigger problem is **WHY** did the PA need to use a scarf in the first place to cover the shoulders. <.< This is what happens when you have policies like this, Daz.

Funny enough, the promo pic showing her with growing up morphs bares quite a bit of scandalous shoulder! Oh no! Somebody totally missed that!

But if that is not enough, her last promo pic shows quite a lot of shoulder.

The neck seam issue, I have seen several neck seam complaints against Rarestone (and a couple others). The issue is either in the bump maps or gloss maps. Some of these characters have an extra gloss mat on the face, but the surface setting for that map is left empty for the other surfaces. So take a look at the surfaces for the face and torso and see if there are any outliers among them. In another instance, I saw the bump/gloss maps use a repeating texture pattern. This pattern repeated across all UV maps. The problem with this method is that it will not match up with other UV textures because of how the UVs scale, this simply does not work. You have to be able to paint across UVs, or use a merchant resource for the bump/gloss maps.

  • For those that were hoping that there would be a link to the asset that everyone is talking about (since assets don't last long on the front page of the store)
    https://www.daz3d.com/hd-fredda-and-fredda-hair-for-genesis-8-female

  • I would not say it is the worst character I ever purchased form the DAZ store, but I do agree that the skin texture is not at all suitable for closeups (due to seams), and the hair is a joke. A bad one, though. From a distance, Fredda looks really cute. I have put the PA's on my personal "greylist". I would not again buy any product that is not at least a week in the store....

Oh dear. I'm glad I checked the forums before splashing out - goes to show that an over-processed promo image is probably hiding something. Well, I hope you've all put in support tickets - getting the PA to fix their issues is the proverbial rolled-up newspaper thwacking the dog's nose. Bad pup!

When ideology or believes of whatever kind are involved, sometimes logic has to take a break.

Just installed her and I have a question. How do you apply the full material with eyebrows and no makeup? The full character loads with makeup and brows. Loading the makeup option loads the makeup and brows. The full body MAT loads a no makeup face with no brow. There appears to be no option to load the full material with just eyebrows.

Unless I've missed something obvious (quite possible).

I found that out, too.  I borrowed eyebrows from another character for my second image above.

I don't think sharing a product's texture maps in the forums is allowed. Just saying :/
