My smaller stimulus check, no custom built PC

It looks like we might finally get another stimilus check, but it might be only $600. I just can't see trying to spec out a new custom built PC. Maybe I'll find other tech delights to make me smile.

exactly, same here. I have given mine to others that actually needed it. I am lucky to still be employeed and the govt really can't afford it. Made sense to me to give it to others that are in actual need.

..yeah I'll finally be able to replace a display that died last summer.  Already have the one I want picked out (decent price too for a 24" IPS from ASUS with a Direct Connect port) and may even splurge for two so I won't have to mess with calibrating two different models to get the colour balance as close as possible.

Of course that will be after I pay off a past due balance to the local utility. so won't have left after that.

  • so many threads I am confused, I thought you had a small render farm by now cheeky

...well for Carrara I do.  Daz doesn't support networked rendering on it's own and I cannot afford 2 Iray Server licences.

LOL I meant Ron, I have been avoiding quotes since the forum started stuffing them up

and Carrara render node is not that great if one machine lesser as I found

I understand that the Government doesn't have resources/time/patience/whatever to make an accurate determination based on actual cost of living, but it's a shame.  Being in the Bay Area I have no hope of qualifying, even though my wife and I live in a 500 square foot box and have to share a car just to make it work.

Its a reason these things shouldn't be discussed so openly...  ;)

...I hear you on  that.  It's a bother to have to scroll through a long string of quotes.  Reminds me of trying to read through the forum on the phone. i also don't like the fact that when you quote it puts the edit window on a separate page so you can't scroll back up the thread. Really hope this is not going to be permanent

If I find my reply is going to be several posts down form the comment I am referring to (or possibly on another page), I've taken to deleting the older stuff out and just keeping the quote I am responding to.  A bit of a pain but it does preserve continuity and trims down the stack of nested quotes so there is less to wade through.

Another method is to simply use "@ <forum name>" and/or maybe just block copy/paste the text of the post you are responding to suing the " format button in the editor to reduce confusion..

    Being in the Bay Area

I think I found your problem....   cut bait like everyone else and relocate to where your dollars stretch farther. Texas, Arizona, Florida.  A buddy of mine had a 3 bed 1 bath house in SF, sold it and moved to Florida.  He bought a 4 bed 3 bath house on 3 acres with the proceeds and still banked 400K.

Of course, he was a nurse, and could find a job anywhere.... Yes he makes less per year now, but his quality of life is through the roof.

    Your mileage may vary...

Update: Veto threatened unless amended up to $2000 for individuals .......Amendment being debated.
  • Closed since it is clearly going to get political.
