Kayla, Kyla & all things RareStone

  • I managed to get an approximate workaround for the eyelash shaping issue above (not for the texture artifacts, but those are less noticeable if your camera isn't that close), using just the basic transforms:

In the scene, dig into Kayla → Genesis 8 Female Eyelashes → Hip, all the way to Head → Upper Face Rig.

Set transforms on a few of the bones inside there:

    • Left Eyelid Lower
      • X Rotate = 1.00
      • Y Rotate = 1.40
    • Left Eyelid Lower Inner
      • Z Translate = 0.20
      • Z Rotate = -6.60
    • Right Eyelid Lower
      • X Rotate = 1.00
      • Y Rotate = -1.40
    • Right Eyelid Lower Inner
      • Z Translate = 0.20
      • Z Rotate = 6.60

Result is attached.  It's not totally perfect, and it has the unfortunate side-effect of moving the moisture in the eye so she's a little more teary, but it's close enough for my purposes.

One issue with Kayla that becomes very noticeable in close-ups on her face: Her eyelashes are not shaped to match the puffiness below her eyes.  The lower lashes heavily clip inside her skin, which makes their placement look strange, particularly for the inner lashes (nearest the nose).

You might also notice there are a bunch of extra hair texture artifacts floating in the air below her lower lashes. Those do appear in renders as well, not just in the viewport.

is due to long lashes value parameter, setting to a lower value fixes that issue.

Psst...you should put links to the products in the posts so that Daz Deals Add On users can see this thread linked from the store pages. That's how I find most information on products these days. I'll link them so this post should show up on them.

    https://www.daz3d.com/kyla-and-pajamas-for-genesis-3-female-s

Kayla is nice, though I don't see a big resemblance to the G3 Kyla. Maybe it is how the promos have been done, and G3 Kyla does not have the smiles. The smiles completely change how she looks. That is not a bad thing, people do look very different when they smile. And G3 Kyla has a boy haircut (though I still cannot believe that hair was made for boys, LOL. It really, really should have been sold for both males and females, I guarantee it would have sold so much better.)

Anyway, I am interested in Kayla, but I'd like to see some more user posts of her.

Also, I very much second jardine's request for the RN Kid's Outfit character. I would buy that in a heartbeat, teen or adult, her face is stunning. If you used another PA's skin on her, just ask them. Maybe you can strike a deal with them and collaborate.

You should, perhaps, ask others to test your items, or test them more extensively, so as not to gain a reputation as a PA whose products always need fixing.  Daz Quality Control doesn't seem to catch many problems.

they do fix them though, there is so much stuff at DAZ that never gets fixed

Thank you.  These adjustments worked well enough that I didn't try to fiddle with them more.  The vendor should fix this problem, though, as it shouldn't be necessary.

Overall, the character is quite charming.  The smile expressions are very well done, as are the eyes, other than the eyelash thing.  There are bump reduction settings, which reduce bump to 0.5, but even that's a bit high for close-ups.  0.2 is proably better.  But that's only an issue with close-ups.  See renders.

The hair is okay.  It would have been nice to have morphs to move the hair away from the cheeks a little, since it looks stuck to her cheek with her head tilted even a little sideways.  Kayla Right Front Hair Move Back and Kayla Left Front Hair Move Back move the wrong sides back.  Right moves left and Left moves right.  The Move Front and other sliders seem to work correctly, but I may have missed some.

Anyway, here are a few renders I did while watching Sakho and Mangane.  Pixel Radius 1.0, texture compression 4096.

PS: One thing I found odd, is that separate eyebrows are available, but there isn't a No-Brow setting for the texture.  Renders done with brows attached and default face.

These figures are also a nice example why I would love some less artistic promo pictures of them, but just some basic standing positions with swimwear and some nice front/side headshots (mugshots ^^) to make them comparable.

As it is, I am not really able to see too many differences in the looks of most of these figures, which is usually something that keeps me from buying them. I don't need a bunch of look-alike figures,,,

But as Rarestone defined at least Fredda as "minor" figure (meaning she probably lacks some anatomical features that adult figures usually have) they lost a lot of interest for me anyway...

Oh, one thing I should point out, for others that care about it, there are no "card icons" for any of the morph/shape sliders. I had to make my own for this set.

Hey RareStone, can you identify the dress Kayla is wearining in this promo image: https://gcdn.daz3d.com/p/79989/i/hdkaylaremakeandkaylahairforgenesis8female05daz3d.jpg

It's the Vernea Fae dress I think, just the shirt and underskirt.

  • I've been waiting for Kayla since the first Nirv hair promo, and the sweet poses promo.Of course she was an instabuy. I haven't had a lot of time to work with her, but I loaded her and her hair up and she seems like she'll be a delight.

For Fredda, texture quality improved quite a bit. Nice girl, now even in close-ups. Not the usual "magazine cover" beauty.  Anyone have a close-up render of Kayla already? She looks like a must have laugh

This is very true. A reputation for constant product errors is very hard to overcome. Customers just stop buying and never have a chance to see if quality improves in the future.

I just have to agree here. I do keep lists of PA's that either outperforme or do not deliver the quality I expect.  It is easy to get on my "blacklist", but very hard to move to my "platinum" list. The procedure is easy. One product beyond expectation -> greylist. A second product -> blacklist. I still have not bought Kayla, although I do really like her, beacuse I have not received any confirmation that she is actually the quality I expect. With a positive experience of Fredda and Gou Luk, I would have bought her immediately.

Sometimes the problem is Daz's own fault though. Like when files get messed up in the download and sometimes the files are not there at all.

A reputation of fixing ones products, and actually listening to customers isn't a bad thing in my book.

  • I'm a touch confused by all this....so.......PLEASE

    would some kindly soul tell me the answer to this;

Is Kayla (the remake) the character for absolutely certain that appears in the All Sweet 4th Youth promos?

AND what and where is the blonde bob style hair from?

I want these two products really rather a lot.

I'm sorry that my setup won't allow me to paste in an image on this.

Thank you & I hope that Rarestone might put me right.

The hair products are Matilda and Heidi hairs.  The Kayla character is absolutely the character I posted renders of in this thread.  Characters go through multiple iterations, so who knows if there were any changes between the pose promo Kayla and the released Kayla.  Even Rarestone might not be able to say with the certainty you're looking for.  I dunno.  Kayla's a nice character and the hair is decent, too.

  • Thank You Sevrin.

    Happy New Year :)

  • @Rarestone :

Are you utilizing any special skin shaders on your renders? I think they looks amazing! Or is it just great lighting / post processing? Are you using iRay?

I've purchased most of your works. I'm a big fan!

Update in DIM.  I'm not sure what was fixed.  Shown with and without included Bump Reduce options.  Lower eyelashes still not right.

Kayla Remake Remake Out of the Box

Kayla Remake Remake Bump Reduced HD Details Applied Eyebrows applied Eyelash Shape applied 100 pct Smile

    Kayla Remake Remake Eyelashes Detail

So I don't know if it's @Rarestone who didn't fix the eyelashes and Daz didn't check it or Daz not preparing the update correctly, but I don't know what was done for this update.

More time wasted on this product because of Daz, either way.

Just a heads up, Kayla has an update again today in my DIM. Unfortunately I don't have time to load her up and check what's been updated this time but hopefully the eyelashes fix.
