Exhausted by 30x0 leaks? Here come the 40x0 leaks!

Specs of NVIDIA's Ampere successor codenamed Lovelace seem to be already available and all signs point to a monster of a GPU. Going by initial rumors, it seems that the AD102 GPU will have 2x the number of GPCs compared to Turing and a 71% higher CUDA core count compared to Ampere, which seemingly yields nearly 66 TFLOPs of FP32 horsepower.

NVIDIA 5 nm Lovelace AD102 (RTX 4080/4090?) specs leak, looks to be a monster GPU with 18,432 CUDA cores and nearly 66 TFLOPs of FP32 performance - NotebookCheck.net News

    Appreciate the name, if true.

...hmm one of the primary researchers of string theory...interesting.

    Deep Throat learning?

Google eventually got around to telling me about Ada the mathematician blush

    Linda certainly dominates the results

I doubt they'd name something after some obscure academic.  I doubt he's even the third most famous Lovelace. Ada Lovelace is far more likely.  She's already had a programming language named after her.  Of course Linda's always a possibility.

  • But it will run Cyberpunk2077?

Ada was the first computer programmer.

If this is true there'll be lots of RTX 3XXX people feeling as gypped as 2XXX buyers when they released the cheaper/better Super series soon after the RTX 2XXX came out. Not exactly the way to win the hearts and minds future customers.

...save for Alan Turing, the theme of the names have primarily been those involved in physics and electro-magnetics which is why he Claud Lovelace first came to mind.

Unless the 4070 is standard with 32GB RAM they aren't being serious so I'll stick with the middle of the road 3070 I'll be getting next year. laugh

Ada Lovelace is famous for writing progams for a computer that was never actually built. Does this reflect on the probability of this being real?

At this point, it doesn't matter to me what Nvidia announnces if they only care about stock going out to scalpers only. Fix your production and distribution problems first so i can actually purchase a new card and then I'll get excited about new releases.

  • It does not matter the cards will be scalped and Nvidia will only make a few. I don't try and buy new tech as it comes out because it is over priced and never easy to get anyway. I just wait and when what I want becomes reasonable I purchase. The days of impulse buying are over.

Customers have reached the point where they don't care about prices or specs anymore. Doesn't matter what Nvidia promises at this point, nobody cares about a product you can't purchase.

I was going to say, that's Linda.  Unless it's related to g-string theory.

Err, hold on a minute.  I'm going to take a look at the specs and the estimated release date first.  Probably skip 30xx if it's 2021.

Not everything is a conspiracy.  It's normal that future generations of hardware will be superior, and often cheaper than older stuff.  Besides, the 40x0 cards are likely a year or two away from becoming available.

Ironically enough, so are the 30xx cards.

2022 I read from the wcttech site which means nearly 2023 as they'll release in Sept 2022 so they can blame the demand and lack of supply on 'fictional' Christmas shoppers and 'fictional' cryptocurrency installations rather than scalpers.

Also, wcttech said that it will be 5 nm process but there is a 6 nm release coming before the Ada Loveless cards which they say is almost certainly a die shrink of the Ampere generation and not another new generation between Ampere and Ada.

No mention of 32GB RAM of couse but they did mention a much larger cache. laugh

So yeah, the near certainty of more much more RAM on a more than twice as fast card that will exceed what I actually need combined with the current price gouging and the wait I have to go through just to order a middle of the road 3070 at less than $100 over MSRP sort of leaves me no choice at all really. I will buy the cheapest 3070 that becomes available next year and be done with it until 2023 likely.
