The way Iray works with two or more cards is that vram is not pooled But all cards in your system will render the scene at the same time. I have two 980TIs and they render the scene twice as fast as just one of them can. It does not increase the amount of vram but it does reduce the amount of time it takes to render. And yes, it will make Tomb Raider look amazing.
If you do go with two cards, and you are using fan cooling, I highly recommend that you separate the cards on the motherboard so that they are not back to back if you have the room. Otherwise the main card will be sucking heat off the secondary card and get way hotter then it should. My main card use to hit 83C every time until they were seperated. Now it only goes up to 70C at the most.
That depends on the cards. Memory pooling is supported (for textures only) on some recent cards using nvlink2, including 2070 super IIRC.
That won't double the VRAM, but you'll still get more than when using the cards independantly.
I'm hoping for animation improvements:
- A more animation-friendly base rig. i.e., Proper IK/FK switching & snapping (internally, this usually requires 3 skeletons: one for deformation, one for IK, and one for FK).
- IK & FK controllers that are visible & selectable in the viewport.
- An animation / rig pane with a controller picker and one-click buttons for IK/FK switching & snapping.
- An improved Timeline / Graph Editor. Examples: Faster scrubbing, an option to limit the displayed keys to the controllers mentioned above, and, for the love of all that is holy, BEZIER CURVES IN THE GRAPH EDITOR!
I could go on, but the above items seem like the lowest hanging fruit to make Daz a viable option for animators.
I'd also like to see more accountability for PAs, to be honest. PAs should not be allowed to publish products until they've fixed any outstanding bugs in their existing products. I'm so tired of filing product-specific bug reports, only to have Daz respond with, "OK, we'll pass it along to the PA"... and, of course, the PA does nothing. Same goes for metadata. PAs should be put in charge of managing their own metadata, because whoever's currently doing it is, frankly, doing an awful job. More and more of the products I buy aren't categorized properly. Sometimes they aren't even categorized at all, and I have to dig through "Lost & Found" to find them (see https://www.daz3d.com/jay-hd-for-genesis-8-female for example).
That's pretty much all I've got. Easy, right?
...yeah was disappointed in the 2 year rollover for the Genesis figure since it was first introduced. I barely got everything together I needed for character design with G3 and suddenly there was G8. Just couldn't see dumping 100s more into a new Genesis base particularly given the "improvements" were few the investment I had in G3. G8 may be backwards compatible with regards hair and clothing content (and you still need conversion scripts to make them fit more accurately), but not morphs, character expansions, poses, and other utilities that needed to be specially developed for it.
A new PC with an RTX card and 128 GB ram so I can create the images as I want them and not have my PC choke so I have to abandon my vision
Oh and a VR headset and 32' Wacom
I figured I may as well dream big
....since we're dreaming big,
A workstation built around an Nvidia RTX A6000 GPU w/48 GB VRAM & 10752 cores, AMD Threadripper Pro 3995WX 64c/128t CPU (128 PCIe lanes), 256 GB DDR4 3200 memory in 8 channel mode 8 x 32 GB, 1 TB WD BLACK NVMe PCI-Express 4.0 x4 3D NAND..(boot), 8 TB WD BLack NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 4.0 x4 3D NAND.(library) 16 TB 7200 RPM HDD (storage), running W10 Enterprise LSTC.
I think that's enough overhead for the epic level scenes I create to not choke it. May even think about finally dabbling in animation.
Yeah could go with dual RTX 3090s with NVLInk for a bit less and get double the core count, but that means needing a much heftier PSU and UPS to handle 700 total W of draw from just the 3090s alone as well as some insane cooling needed to not set off the heat detector (and possibly fire sprinkler) in the flat.
Back to reality, I'll just be happy to see those two 23.8" matching IPS displays arrive that I have on order.
What is this Cat 8 that everyone is going on about?
A new cat model obviously, with better bones, rigging and material zones than the old one. Kinda like how the Daz Dog did get a new Dog 8 version. Our world rulers require attention!
Do you imagine our World Rulers DON'T get attention? It's just that all of it is IRL not online. Not sure they'd appreciate attention online.
Regards,
Richard
A bit late, I'd say - the internet is more than half attention for our Rulers....
I didn't make the connection at first between the Daz cat/housecat and cat 8 because previous models weren't numbered. I had forgotten all about Dog 8 (even though I see it daily in the store), since I have no interest in dogs. But now the number makes sense. Thanks for explaining.
I buy all the cat stuff, so I'm all for a new, improved cat.
Give us cats!....I have Dog 8 base but all the breed add-ons have dForce instead of LAMH fur as hair sims take longer than cloth sims, particularly on older systems.. Would not look forward to running a sim on an Afghan, Irish Setter, Pyrenees, or Bearded Collie (same for say a Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest, Persian or Himalayan cat).
there are a couple mesh hairs too and they work on all breeds
I'm going to add another DAZ Wishlist, Background Saving (like how it works in Photoshop)
Saving while you work would be a nice quality of life addition, especially since I'm obsessed with hitting Ctrl+S frequently
Hivewire dog and cat both have LAMH fur.
