I was wondering about that, so far everyone I asked hadn't tried it and didn't seem at all interested

hell if I had one my boys would be coming in anatomical elements and all!

can you paint clothes on them?

yeah shame about the textures because painting explosions in 3D would be so coolyes forget Photoshop cheeky

maybe untick quote paths in obj export?

Tilt Brush is super cool - I have actually used it to sketch out models, the mesh export needs cleaning up but its a good way to visualise.
I did the shoulders for this outfit in Tilt Brush

Another one I recommend is Gravity Sketch and its free from the 25th of Jan :)

I got to try Tilt Brush at a friends, it was a lot of fun!

Not sure if it's useful for making models that can be imported in DAZ... I'm guessing that the geometry of its results would be too complex.

But maybe it can be used to make HDRIs?

I got Tilt Brush at Christmas too but haven't even had time to try it yet so thanks for the tip about OBJ import that's going to be a game changer for me. Also as Mada said I've got the 25th in the diary ;)

Cool. They should design a virtual 'Michelangelo' app where you have to sculpt 'The David' virtually like he did and then progress on to more complex statues, not that the David isn't complex but it doesn't present the challenge of cloth draping, 2 or more figures touching and hiding surfaces, and so on.

Explored this on the internet, it's all new for me. Can someone answer some questions? First of all, it appears you need to purchase a Playstation, is that correct? How do you export a final image? I would want to put it into Photoshop to apply finishing touches. And what size is the file? I need to have a large pixel sizes, typically 5 x 7 MEGA pixels for the final image.

No, you do not need a Playstation, you need a VR headset. If your computer is beefy enough (which it should, if you are running Studio smoothly) then you just need to choose one that's suited for your intended purposes, but if you need (or want) a standalone, you should look into the Oculus Quest 2. I have yet to try Tilt Brush or similar software, so that the only thing I can help you with.

Danny Bitman is one of the best Tilt Brush artists out there and uses it to create videos. He created a Youtube tutorial series on the workflow, definitely worth watching :)

VR looks like it would be a lot of fun. The user interface that requires hand grip controllers in order to navigate in 3D is unaccessible to me unfortunately. I would have to have an entirely different type of navigation/control system designed for my disability. It's still really cool to see what people are able to do with it though.

I'm using an Oculus Quest 2. It is a VR app. It works in conjunction with your PC, so the saved images are on the computer as .jpg. Hmmm ... in the directory they're actually png files ... anyway 1080P files 1920x1080. Not really very big. Not sure if its possible to increase, but not just from what I've seen so far. I think it also possible to do screen captures utilizing other programs, but then your're at the mercy of your screen size and resoultion.

I'm finding this to be extremely interesting but in the end, it's all about what I'm going to do with it. I've been watching a series on Netflix called "Skin Wars" so I'm thinking it might be fun to import a Daz figure into VR and do body painting since it's not feasible to hire models because of the expense. 1920 x 1080 is small but I can drop a figure into a larger scene and that will work. I think in terms of 2D work but in looking at the internet, creating video has much potential for my business. So... QUESTION: You create a 3D world or object, how does the video work? Or rather, what are the steps to create a video? Just to create a spooky woods and move through the trees, there is a process for that and software required, can someone explain that to me? It will help in finding more information on what it takes to do that.

Thanks for bringing this up daveso, i haven't played with Tilt Brush in awhile. It was one of my first apps to get when I got into VR. I liked it alotand it definately has that wow factor when you first try it, but I could never get it to do what i really wanted it to do. As for importing models, I found the results hit or miss and I have tried most VR model veiwers on the market, InStrata VR, VR model veiwer, Merper VR, etc and none of them really did a good job on importing models. I found the VR plugin for Blender did a much better job that any of them.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. VR is fantastic and cheaper than ever to get into. I am in it daily (viewing the forum and typing this from VR) and can't imagine life without VR at this point.

One more question... What do you need for Oculus Quest? I see it selling for $299 to $599, I have no idea what extras should be purchased or not.

  • MadaMada Posts: 2,025

Oculus Quest is a standalone headset running on an android chip. You can run it without anything else.

Software you have to purchase extra - usually from the Oculus store : https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/

If you want to extend its use as a PC headset you need a good cable to connect it to a USB-C port as well as a decent PC to run games on. I also added good headphones since sound is so important in VR.

Once its connected to a PC you can purchase VR games from Steam or Oculus.

You can buy an app called Virtual Desktop which, with a free update, can stream your PC wirelessly so you can play Steam games in your living room even if your PC is in another room, no cable :)

The price difference is because, like a phone, it is a standalone unit and comes in two memory sizes - 64GB and 256GB. Apps and games are downloaded to the unit.

Yes that works too - latency can be an issue with some games, especially if your router is a bit older. You really need a 5 GHz channel to avoid choppiness and triggering motion sickness :)

Yes, should have mentioned that. 5GHz connection and a Wifi extender in my setup so not experienced either yet.
