I think you need to experiment with VR before you decide if its for you and if you would be able to create something professional with it. I definitely recommend testing a headset before you buy - some people get motion sickness in headsets.
There are limitations that comes with VR right now that involves creative solutions. It sounds like what you want to do can be done with Daz Studio and photoshop and will be easier than trying to do it in virtual space.
Unity, Blender and Gravity Sketch (from end of Jan) are free... but they involve a time investment in learning to use them.
The videos I linked earlier in this thread for Danny Bitman takes you through all the steps for Tilt Brush

Thanks, Mada. From what I'm seeing so far, Tilt Brush appears to be more of a toy than a professional grade tool. As I poke around, I am seeing there are other VR painters out there, I am wondering if any are higher end where I can export 2D in larger sizes and video larger than 720. But there are workflows where Titl Brush can be brought into other software tools for more detail work and there isn't much information on that. All the tutorials are for beginners and don't go beyond "toy." I just see so much potential here to go beyond what you can do in Daz and Photoshop and for creating fine art and commercial imagery. The basic rule for fine art and commercial is pixel size for 2D and 1920 x 1080 minimum for video. You can't sell thumbnails. So I'm trying to learn what it takes to go from Tilt Brush to professional grade requirements in order to know what is required for expense and learning. Perhaps another software application other than Tilt Brush? Or a series of software tools to take a concept from beginning to end?
Thanks for all of the tips. Good point about the weight. I have played recently with my son's VR headset and from the beginning its weight was a bit disturbing.
Shortly after a while, I have forgotten about it and have immesed in the VR world.
What I like about the headset, that it has replaceable, magnetic front part, touching skin around eyes, so more than one person could use it on occasion.
you need VR compatible 3D software the obvious one being Blender
Unreal, Unity, the list goes on
many other softwares can use VR including Twinmotion which is why a headset is on my one day when I have money list

I asked in another forum if you could get video greater than 720 and the answer was yes. This is the response I got, FYI if it helps anyone: One way to do video exports is to exit Tilt Brush and then run the .bat file that is exported alongside the video (this only happens with saved scenes). The batch file will give you a bunch of options for re-rendering at 1080p and 4k, and 30 and 60 fps. One useful aspect of it is that it will also render it with no dropped frames, which is always a danger when capturing direct in the app.

I am surprised it doesn't export a 360 video.

I did this early 2017 - I made the roses by grabbing the centre plane and spinning it :) I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to get better video capture now in Tilt Brush

Something else I experimented with is setting up a "palette" next to the working space where I can pick colours/brushes without having to constantly go into the picker on the controller. I should find time to play more in Tilt Brush but there's so much to pick and choose from and not enough time
Ain't that the truth. I got my Dad a Quest 2 for Xmas and got the premium bowling app for him since he used to love to bowl and do the league deal for many years. He is wheelchair bound now, but he's loving the bowling in VR and we are trying to set up some MP sessions in it. Don't have the heart to tell him it will be taking away from my Medal Of Honor: Above and Beyond and Star Wars Squadrons gameplay, LOL
I have not been able to really get into Star Wars Squadrons yet, need to invest a bit of time into learning how to fly properly. I also want to tweak the visuals a bit more - No Man's Sky totally spoilt me there, especially with the flying.
Walkabout Mini Golf is also really good for families playing together - if he's enjoying the bowling he'll enjoy the mini golf :)

sorry thread hijack
No Man sky is awesome, also if you not afraid of underwater. Subnautica is stunning in VR. Subnautica you have to use a xbox or other controller. Though it still an amazing experience.
I need to get Tiltbrush still. I got the Oculus Rift, and I get my Oculus Quest 2 in a couple days. Medium is a really cool sculpter which I saw a page back. If you like to spray paint. Kingspray Graffiti is a really cool program. I have had it for a couple years, I need to get back into it. Time has just been crazy the couple years. Being a youth in the 80's and 90's , VR was the one thing I dreamed of and wanted. Seeing it in movies , and to now actually have had it for almost 4 years. It's been a blast. And now it being so cheap to get into. I'm happy some people can now experience it, at this price point.
Got a couple replies from the other forum, I think the "4096" was in reference to how big you can export 2D, FYI:
COMMENT 1: 4096 x 4096 in Quest. 10,000+ in PC. Can remove the blur on the edges. Can turn off the logo. preview in snapshot don't match the frame. might fix it using FOV. use boxes to find the position of the camera. if picture isn't close enough, rearrange the boxes and take another snapshot. turn that box on and off but leave it there for camera positioning. gif can't be changed . video can be changed, I think.
COMMENT 2: You can export 360 videos up to 8k, but you will need a render farm or a lot of time to put it back together. It takes individual 360 shots for each frame, the software takes the individual shots and stitches them back together for the video.
OK, I'm sold, I think I will dive into this. I would want to get the Oculus Quest, correct? I'd get the 256G. What else do I need up front? Cables and any other harware that is necessary? I don't want to keep running back to the store for more parts.

I think you do need the cable for transferring files. I have virtual desktop and I can operate the computer via it, and did not need a cable to get it synced with my PC. Yay! Easy.
BUUUUT I found I need to do a 'sideload' to get Steam VR playing nice with Oculus Quest 2, and that absolutely needs a cable. Mutter. Oh, yay, the power cord is USB C to C! ... ... Argh, my PC only has USB A sockets.
With any luck the USB C to A cord I ordered comes today. ;)
As I mentioned earlier, by itself Virtual Desktop requires the wire, however, you can install a free addon via Sidequest and it will then work exactly the same as the wired version but wirelessly.
There is a link on the sidequest page on how to set it up - How To Sideload Games On Oculus Quest 2 - YouTube. You need a cable to install the update, the streaming app must be running on your computer, but other that you're good to go.
I am currently playing Trover Saves The Universe in VR wirelessly and I launched it from my Epic Games account via Virtual Desktop. The A button is left mouse button, B button is right mouse button for PC desktop when viewed in headset.
You need a pretty robust WiFi signal but my experience has been seamless so far.
This one discusses the same thing and shows it working wirelessly - Oculus Quest 2 – How To Play PC VR Games With Virtual Desktop Wireless (+ 90Hz & WiFi6 Impressions) - YouTube Skip to 2:54 to skip the preamble.
Think of the Quest and Quest 2 as a Playstation 4 and a Playstation 5. Same manufacturer just brought out the latest version with better chip and graphics. Most games/applications will work on both unless they are specifically written for the latest one only. At the time of writing there aren't many, if any, that specifically need the 2 but that might change over time.
Double post, apologies
