Interactive rights, should I?

Not sure if this is the place to post this or not.

first off, I love the fact daz is making it easier to purchase based on game development.

Now to the point.  It's my understanding that if I am using a model that is directly effected by a users game play, then it requires the interactive license, however...

what about environment?  What about a terrain that the user moves through.  Like a ski hill?  Yes, the users avatar moves, and would need interactive licensing but would the ground, or the snow banks that don't, for whatever route or course?

If there are jumps etc that can be placed by the user, these would need the extra license, but if I pre-rendered them for the gameplay, they wouldn't?

just want to make sure I have it right, and thanks!

Any 3D mesh that is used in an original (original only since thay can't be used for mods) game as 3D will need to have the interactive license for all items used, doesn't matter how it is programmed or used. if the game is 2D, like using sprites, or only 3d animation made for cut scenes, then the license isn't needed.

consider all daz products like geometry, not defined by "figure" or "car" or "environment", all are geometry, that is the license to apply in general, apply to all geometry in 3D when user interacts with them, when a figure stops on a wall, the wall had interacted with the figure you are moving in UnrealEngine, so, that interaction requires a license.

  • But please, if all you want is a wall, make one in Hexagon and it's "yours" :-)

Wait a minute, are you saying you can use one of those modeling programs to ACTUALLY create my own models for my game???!!! That is just crazy talk!!! surprise

Oh wait, that is how it used to be when one wanted to actually "create" a game, silly me, LOL

Even products like material sets that include images and shader parameters that are 2D until applied to a model, lighting products and other products need interactive licenses if you are going to use them in an interactive engine.

  • Think about it like this, if the asset you are using is being ported into a game engine, and hence when you sell it you are also selling that asset, then yes, you need an interactive license. If the asset itself isn't being ported into the game, i.e. just images or videos, then you don't need it.
