How to hide shadows

in The Commons
Hi all
I am working on an trek render where the starship is in orbit around a planet. My problem is that the ship's shadow is being casted on the planet. How do you hide a shadow from an object?

Render it in separate layers so the ship isn't going to affect the planet and comp it in photoshop or whatever program you use for that.
This may not be a solution for what you are trying to achieve, but maybe treat the shadow as a natural real-world byproduct?
That means you would have to move the spaceship further from the planet to be believable, and also apply an atomosphere effect to fuzz out the shadow a bit.
See my attached images with a car in space.
1. Car with paper roll backdrop to show shadows.
2. Paper roll removed (you can see a faint shadow from the car on the planet).
3. Atmosphere gas added to scene (shadow is no longer prominent).
You could also change the dome rotation so that the shadow does not fall directly on the planet but that might change how the ship appears in the light as well.
If moving the ship further from the planet makes the planet too small, maybe the size of the planet could be increased too.
many ways to fix that!
I'm going to have to look up the Iray Canvases Beauty Mode. It sounds interesting.
