So there are new default resources for DS available, but no word on why or what impact they will have on how we use DAZ Studio.

What's going on?

  • A few lights and a whole lot of shaders ... good question.

Comparing to the old version, the only difference is that they've added an Iray PBR Skin Shader, everything else is the same.

    Only

    /Shader Presets/Iray/Daz PBRSkin/Daz Iray PBRSkin.duf

    looks new to me.

  • I updated mine only because everyone said the only change was the addition of the skin shader. As a result, the Uber water shader that I've depended on for corneas, that I was using immediately prior to the update and which never gave me grief up until that point, has completely vanished from within Studio. It used to show up with a simple search in either Smart Content or the Content Library, now it doesn't. Nor do any of the other water shaders that are still in the new pack. Haven't checked if the rest got screwed up, too, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

The files are there, Studio just likes to pretend that they don't exist now, which is just the cutest. Needless to say I'm pretty PO'd and haven't been able to find a solution. I'm giving up for the night and possibly the next few days. Every little thing related to Daz these days is frustrating and exhausting and this is just the icing on the cake.

Water shader is still there. It's just a preset of the Iray Uber shader which hasn't been removed. It's under  Shader Presets/Iray/Daz Uber by default. If you aren't seeing it, there's a possibility that your library shows less than all of the files in a folder. There should be an icon with 4 boxes next to one with 4 lines in your content library pane and also a pair of up and down arrows. Hit the up arrows to make sure that everything is visible in the pane.

The updates and/or additions never remove anything from the installation, it maybe that the "Smart (not) Content" doesn't show it, but when you navigate to the real/actual folders it's where it has always been.

The G8 female starter essential content is missing from my smart content after the update (and no 8.1 content too).

All the g8 female content is actually showing inside the G8 male smart content

  • Just applying the updates I notice that the header at the very top of the UI now contains additional information (in particular, the name given to the current scene_subset) along with the version of Daz which is being used.

A VERY WELCOME ADDITION in my opinion.

Maybe, but accessing it takes infinitely longer that way because I have to remember where, exactly, I installed it and then switch tabs, find the right library, and dig through several layers of folders.

Right before installing the update all I had to do was go to Files in my Smart Content pane, type water, and there it was.

Oh, it shows up if I manually dig for it, which takes infinitely longer than how I used to find it. But it still doesn't turn up using the search function in the Content Library and it's missing from Smart Content entirely.

The thing is, I HATE the Content Library and would sooner avoid it because it's a chaotic mess. Every time I've tried to organize anything sensibly, I just end up with a bunch of broken thumbnails that make finding things even harder. Smart Content isn't terribly smart and has its own problems, but it's easier for me to manage.

I cannot understand why updating things just nuked all the resource shaders from Smart Content. It's not just the water ones, every single one no longer shows up in a search of both management systems (SC and CL) and in fact appears to be completely absent from Smart Content. Uninstalling and reinstalling things has done nothing.

Edit: Also, I mean literally all of the Iray Uber shaders no longer turn up in searches, or at all in Smart Content. Even !Iray Uber Base, which has always been the very first thing to turn up in a Smart Content search for "uber," is now only accessible by digging (but not searching) through the Content Library. Maybe mine is an isolated case and this isn't happening to anyone else, I mean my installation is at war with Connect which periodically takes products over and tech support can't figure out how, or why Studio will randomly just... delete products between one use and the next, I'll close Studio and restart it and a product will be completely or partly missing for no apparent reason. Happened with 8.1 yesterday, I installed the updated with DIM to get the G8.1 female base, used it, and when I restarted Studio all of the 8.1 stuff was broken and the only way to fix it was to uninstall the Starter Essentials completely and then reinstall them.

But it's definitely a thing that's happening here and it's seriously impacted my workflow.
