How does the FG Cabin look from the outside?

JUJUJUJU Posts: 1,131

I would like to see the outside of the cabin.

Could anyone please show?

Thank you♥

Quite possible that there's no exterior. After all, there's electricity, hot & cold running water, two sleeping areas - and no bathroom or toilet.

You can see it on the black and white scenery, this set doesn't have an outside view, except from the part on the top of it, it misses some walls as well.

There are walls arounbd those sections, you can see them in other promos. That's just a "cut away" showing you how it all fits together. However, you may well be right abouth there being no exterior given that the logs are only half cylinders.

If there's no exterior, it really ought to be labeled Cabin Interior, not a Cabin, since the word defines the exterior structure not the interior.  It also seems strange, given that the entire point of a cabin is to be situated in a rustic environment, so the idea that you can't pose someone standing in the doorframe or looking through a window from outside greatly decreases it's versatility.

I'm still stuck on the fact that someone would have the interior plumbing for a nice mini-kitchen but no bathroom. I guess for me, I'd rather an indoor toilet than be able to make waffles.

That's really not that unusual as you might think.  I've stayed at a number of places that had electricity but no indoor toilets, mostly at summer camps but also a beautiful 18th century farmhouse my family used to visit back in our camping days which had full electric but relied on a massive three seater outhouse just out back.  It's one thing to pump water in from a source, and I've seen setups as crude as a garden hose running from an external tank to supply the basics for a kitchen, but it's quite another to handle the outflow that a flushing toilet produces.

More like "upscale cabin interior". I wish the cabin on my deer lease was this nice.

That sort of cabin needs an outhouse, there's nothing like sitting down and doing the deed at below -25C/-13F temperatures with the wind in your hair laugh

lol...  'wind in your hair' makes me think it's a little more rustic then I'd want to use at -25C/-13F :)

You are thinking in practical terms rather than thinking about the type of pictures most people want to make. I like to watch Star Trek and I don't think I've ever seen a toilet in any version of the Enterprise. And in the first series they were on a five year mission!

Where do you think the raw material came from for the food replicators?

Yes, but how did it get to the food replicators? Mini-transporters?

Maybe the particles "home" back to the replicator mid-digestion.

That brings a whole new element to the phrase "Earl Grey, hot."

It isn't clear from the description or the images if it has an exterior or not; the name implies it does, whereas the promos suggest otherwise.

It probably looks as good from the outside as Victoria X looks from the inside.

Has anybody bought it already? I need a image of the outside. Fugazi1968 has some very nice exteriors...so I am still hoping....

If the PA had gone to the trouble of modelling and texturing an exterior then it seems very unlikely they would not have included at least one promo shot to show off their hard work. As such I would be very surprised if there is an exterior.

If you are doing a series of images with inside and outside pictures you could chose one of the PA's exteriors that best match the look you want. I've heard that in film and TV when the actors go into a building what you see in the inside shots is often not the building you saw them go into.

Correct. I strongly reccomend getting a copy of season 4 of Warehouse 13 for the commentaries by the show runner and cast.

    To sumarize:

    1) Establishing shot, as actors arrive at <building>, showing entry to be used

    2) Tight shot, actors at entry, opening; may actually be <building>, may be recreation of entry and wall section on sound stage

    3) Interior shot, actors entering room - on sound stage

The Brady Bunch even used a different house

  • The Aluminum Falcon used to be a tiny model for the exterior flying shots, way back in ye olden times of archaic movie history. laugh

    ...

Sometimes, it's nice to have a model that's the entire house, but then it's the ENTIRE HOUSE that you need to deal with. (I don't need to simulate all of that when I'm doing a shot in a single room.)

I mostly don't mind at all to have separate room loads, not to mention the entire house itself (incl. exterior).

Everything has its own use case, of course.

The B&B where the entire staff of Warehouse 13 "lived" consisted of a mid-range establishing shot and several sets on a sound stage. The warehouse consisted of several interior sets and a mass of CGI and greenscreen.

I love Warehouse 13. I've got the whole thing on DVD but I never got around to watching the bonus stuff, I'll have to get out the season 4 discs and have a look. I'm guessing that for the warehouse the office/lab room and the balcony that looked over the inside were the only physical sets and the rest was CGI, except maybae small parts of the interior.

That's about right. There were several partial aisles for the warehouse interior scenes. Ther are commentaries on all seasons, but season four has a full commentary on every episode. Things that get covered - how the series was shot with a single camera (so the scenes with everybody in the office, for example, were filmed once for each cast member); re-use of locales and repurposing of sets; and having a writer or producer on site for every shoot to approve on-the-spot changes in the dialogue or action.

The season 5 "Behind the Shelves" bonus material goes into a lot of detail of various aspects of the show. All in all, the bonus material gives great insight into the way the show was put together.

and nobody here has actually bought it to answer the original question wink

while it looks nice, I have several cabins and no need myself, also their products tend to be very highpoly with excessive textures my limited hardware struggles with.

I've given this way more thought than I should. Given the appearance and the glaringly obvious lack of certain facilities - this is some wealthy person's playhouse. There should be a flagstone path that leads to an indoor/outdoor bath and toilet concealed in  a carefully maintained copse of small trees. The exterior would be rustic - faux log, cedar shakes, or rough-hewn wood siding. There's probably a well-constructed stream or creek just off to one side, with a wide spot suitable for swimming.

No, I haven't bought it; for it to work in the types of scenes I do I'd have to strip two-thirds of the furniture out, put in a wood-burning stove, and replace some of the window glass with translucent materials.

But for the OP - I think the promos speak for themselves; no exterior provided.

To me the most glaring items are the tiled floor and the lack of a fireplace... I'm surprised that no one has commented on the fact that it also has a gas stove, though those can be run on external tanks.  No matter how you look at it, it's a cabin in name only, but it does come with a lot of great looking props.  Unfortunately, DAZ has been running some incredibly weak sales this week so I'll be waiting two months for it to drop to 60% off before buying it for parts.
