DAZ Galleries Gone Forever?

There are fragmentary threads here with no actual answers to the question of when the DAZ Galleries will return -- and all of those threads seem to have been closed off since the beginning of January. But there is no single, simple answer from DAZ management about when the User Galleries will be coming back and if they will be different than they were before they vanished.

With Filament technology, 8.1 characters, and backend retooling all happening simultaneously, it's no wonder that the Galleries were put on a back burner. Any one of those changes would have been enough to keep the staff working overtime, and a business plan that involves doing them all at once is an interesting one to ponder. But when users are unable to access (either to add or delete) the renders that they uploaded to the DAZ database, some sort of answer as to where and why that database disappeared, and when it will come back, should be forthcoming.

The DAZ Galleries were a professional forum, and many of us used them to improve our skills by getting feedback from people who knew what they were talking about. That crucial feedback is sorely missed. And many of us used our posted renders as a way to promote the assets that we purchased from DAZ. One would think the vendors would like to see that come back again.

we users have no answers only questions and for some reason are not allowed a thread dedicated to the topic, instead are refered to a post in a long thread about the store.

I still hold the hypothesis they accidentally lost the data and are procrastinating telling us but thats just a big guess, since they cannot even provide 4.12 to users with unsupported cards as they no longer have that!

Thanks, Mystiarra. That render is a combination of three of my best DAZ assets, and I was unable to post it to the Gallery here and give proper credit to the vendors. Instead, it's up on a competitor's website.

December holidays and the new year came and gone, still nothing. I used the galleries to help me decide on purchasing a lot of the items I wanted, but since the galleries went offline I've cut back a lot on what I buy because I don't always find the pomo images useful. I'm sure I'm not the only one who used the images posted to decide on a purchase but with the galleries being down, I'm saving money so it's bad but also good. crying

I used the galleries for examples of products I wanted to buy also. I also needed a copy of 4.12 which they would not give me and then wouldn't even answer my emails. So...I'm

cutting way down on what I buy. What a disappointment.

According to the latest official response from a forum mod the data for the gallery has definately not been lost in the site upgrade. I'm sure most of you have seen that post too.

The response I got from Richard? I think, is that there are staffing problems affecting outstanding tickets but that problem probably affects other, if not all, areas of operations, ie. too few staff to keeps things running smoothly.

So I assume Daz Corp. are prioritising what functions the limited staff are working on. Sales are important because that provides the revenue stream so the shop opperates normally, The gallery unfortunately would we way down their to-do list.

I believe Richard when he says they are working on the problem.

Kyoto - "...ahh, but DAZ_Rawb used that one fatal word: "soon".  We all want the gallery back now... but how soon in now?

  • The Gallery was nice but I always thought it was mostly a waste of time. I'm hoping that it will come back new and improved - more streamlined, easier to search and find what you want to see.

...I'd like it if if it came back a bit more like how the old galleries were. Just got too hard to slog through,.sometimes and images got buried rather quickly.

Well, we're not after the holidays yet. We recently had MLK Day. And Valentine's Day is in a couple of weeks. Then Purim shortly thereafter. Then Passover in late March. Easter in April. May Day. But Daz observed Juneteenth last year; so, if they're still woke, then you will probably have to wait until after July 4th. And then Bastille Day. So, perhaps some time before American Labor Day.

While I enjoyed the galleries, I never found them beneficial in any way. More like a popularity contest and most of the popular images were heavily postworked which I view as a category in itself.and not a style I have much interest in.

    I like postwork.

I like the galleries as well.

    I hope it returns soon.

  • We lost daz quality assurance (QA) a long time ago. Shouldnt be surprised that the Gallery has vanished as well.wink

We will check into this for you and have someone come and address your questions. In the meantime, we’re going to lock the thread so it doesn’t deviate into speculation which may cause confusion.

DAZ_Rawb  said in another thread which had to be locked

Even though Richard was correct in locking this thread because it had gone so far off the rails it had become a seafaring vessel, I'll still pop in and add a little gallery update.

We thought before the store transition that the gallery was like the forums, because it sat on it's own server running a webserver and a database server and all that sort of stuff we just thought we would proxy the requests through like we do the forums. Instead it turns out the gallery was built like some form of the code equivalent of vogon poetry. Parts of it were embedded in the store, other parts were running on it's own server and entangled through a bunch of undocumented endpoints and API calls.

So, instead we are rebuilding the galleries and should be making it look and feel a lot nicer, but also adding some small but very helpful functionality to spruce up the galleries. The old images and comments should be imported automatically, so no worries on the old data either. I don't have a firm commitment on the date when we are releasing it but it should out soon after the holidays are over.
