...ugh stuffy again today. Feel that bug just took a few days off then decided it as time to go to back work on me again.

However I am well armed. A full box of Theraflu, big supply of curry seasoning, slab of cow (to curry) several packs of rice stick noodles, and lots of veggies.

Friend turned me on to this wholesale grocery warehouse and the prices are amazing (mainly because they don't have to pay for all that advertising and in store display "bling"). A lot of stuff is sold in big lots (50# sacks of rice, huge cans of beans, soup, etc,) catering to small restaurants/big families, but even for individuals there are deals to be had. The curry spice I got is a 1L tub for just a little more than the half size one costs at an Asian grocery (which are now all out in the burbs). In comparison to the "Big name" supermarts, for example I picked up a large bottle of sweet chili sauce for 2.69$, at the market I usually go to that same size bottle (same brand) is 7.50$ .The same size can and brand of Coconut milk cost me 1.29$ where at the mainstream market it costs 3.75$. As I don't have a lot of freezer space (and am conscious about things like growth hormones) I still buy my meats, fish, & such at the market I normally shop at.. For canned and dry goods which have a reasonable shelf life, this is where I'll go.

The two nice things, you don't need a membership card, and it is fairly close by.

Morning. Perfect big blue sky for the big horse race day. Useless trying to travel anywhere today because the roads and rail and trams are all crammed with race party people. Useless trying to get any work done, maybe I'll lie in the sun and catch some more zzzzz's

...looking at your current conditions and forecast doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Where I am, radar indicates a huge mass of rain moving onshore from the west which should hit the city within the next couple hours. Didn't even make it out of the 40s yesterday, but not as bad as the Northeast tip of the country which got snow.

    Of course
I am now looking for a trial bluray player until I can find my nero disc. I know it is in my room somewhere.

The Demo version of Nero does not include the bluray player which means I have to either find another software to play blurays, find my nero disc or wait until I can buy the newest version of nero. I rather not wait. I want to watch a bluray movie sooner than later.

Though weather forecaster for one of our local news channels still sounds like a great job. I can have a 30 - 40 % success factor yet not have to worry about losing my job Then there's all the perks like doing your show live from a good restaurant (& getting brekkie or lunch for free) to being invited to all sorts of special events (again for free), including sports. You just have to act a bit eccentric or odd, and you're in. Perfect job match.

With some exceptions, they want actual meteorologists these days, not just a pretty face to talk to the folks at home.

...OK, got me on the "petty face" part.

However, given my joints and bones, I'd probably be just as, if not more accurate than our local television forecasts than even with all their degrees, satellites, and computer models. Besides, today most people don't care about the "science" behind it all, they just want to know if they need to grab the the coat and brolly (and possibly a sweater and scarf) before leaving for work tomorrow morning.

The NWS and NOAA sites are open to anyone (which is petty much what the "educated" meteorologists rely on) with the data written in fairly plain English.

It's just like our transit system. All those "white shirts" with their degrees in transit planning, civil, and social (ugh) engineering who receive (not "earn") 5 - 6 digit salaries are so completely out of touch with the real needs of the transit riding public (as well as the drivers/tram operators), since they never depend on the system to get them to and from their work on a daily basis because they all drive cars. They also waste both valuable time and money on countless and oft pointless "studies" that could be put to better use fixing the many glaring faults in the system (for example they've been "evaluating" hybrid buses for about ten years now while other cities are putting them on the streets, meanwhile as fuel prices continue to go up, the increased cost is simply passed on to the ridership in the form of higher fares and/or reduced frequency/schedules).

For some occupations like these, I really question the necessity of a degree over first hand experience and common sense.

    Guess that's my Monday complaint.
