Maybe the water is slowing the render. Luxrender must calculate reflection and refraction of the water.

I'm sure of it. I hae it minimized and am doing other things, and I'm going to take a nap, so we'll see where it is in a few hours.

I need a WAY faster laptop... :blank:

...well no help for my Packers from either Tampa or Kansas City. Admittedly Tampa defeating Detroit was a longshot, but the KC Chumps who were pretty much in control shot themselves in the foot several times during the second half with poorly timed penalties, one that not only negated a touchdown that would have probably sealed the win, but ended up in an interception and a big return by Arizona on the very next play which set up what ended up being the winning TD for the Cardinals. Ugh, I hate bonehead mistakes like that.

In the meantime reworking Leela's friend Tracey now that I have Giselle, Slender Stephanie, and a few other fey character morphs. Would love to use one of the skin maps as well, but they all have dark eyebrows which means I have to modify them in PSP with an eyebrow fix tool. They create all these lovely fair complexioned characters and then give them dark painted on eyebrows which kind of ruins the effect if you want to use light coloured hair.

there be an eyebrow fixer tool? :gulp:
...actually several. The one I have is PSD merchant resource by Biscuits which I got over at Rendo (as a prize for challenge a while back), however I believe it has since been discontinued. I like it because it is is a set of .psd files that load white so you can set you own colours (no more redheads with black, or blondes/silver haired elves with brown eyebrows).

Ti takes little work as you have to "paint out" the existing eyebrows on the face map first using the clone and heal tools in whatever 2D application you work in then apply the new brows. You also have to save the new face map under a different name so as not to overwrite the original. As I don't know how to make thumbnails I have to apply the map in the Surfaces tab. Ideally I'd like to create brows with Garibaldi Express, but not that skilled with it yet (and it's tricky to get good symmetry). It would be nice if someone came out with a set of "real hair" brows that you could apply with a single click but it would require having a separate bone for that area and a means to turn off the existing one.

3 hours of rendering, then I stopped it. Certainly looks DIFFERENT in Reality! :bug:

It'll be interesting to see how the render looks after your let Luxrender run for another 3 hours. Thanks for sharing.

I meant to say Luxrender but I typed Luxus instead. lol

I need to replace the DAZ water plane with a Reality one, and see about shadows, then I'm going to let it render all night and see what I get.

    Should be interesting...

...are you using the Reality "Sun" or one of the HDRI sets? The Reality Sun will give more defined shadows.

For most most outdoor scenes I just use that and shadows come out very real looking.

I also believe the material settings include water now.

BTW, has Reality been running pretty smooth for you? In spite of a slight slowdown in loading a scene or some content, I haven't experienced any of the more serious issues some others are.

Morning. Gloomy grey, cool and spooky quiet in the big city, rubbish and debris everywhere after some wind last night. Maybe is a good time to do some shopping before the weather turns again :)

The Reality "Sun". I should RTFM but I'm lazy and waiting for football to come on... :red: :red:

Reality has been working "ok". I see a missing texture message on this scene but it doesn't throw anything off.

Old scenes won't load properly for me, but fresh scenes work fine. Go figure. :blank:

Getting used to the lighting model is a pain, I swear, I haven't done any "real" photography in AGES and it's taking some getting used to. :-S

Just need more time with it, more RTFM, and spending time on the Luxrender forums...

...hey, I'm one of those photographers who picks up the camera, and adjusts things while watching the light meter. Once the needle is in the middle, than I shoot the pic.

I do know enough to set the camera to the speed of the film that is loaded, though one time i forgot and all the pics turned out really crappy.

I have played around with the different film values (nice that this can be done while the render is in progress) and found the Kodak Gold and Agfa Silver ones give the nicest colour balance. Used to use Kodak Gold a lot in real photography.

Well, between renders, naps, and eating/drinking nice hot stuff :) I completed a new composition, a dark ambient drone I call "Inchantcation":

    https://soundcloud.com/synthetic_aurality/inchantcation

..90% processed chanting monks, a choir, and a call to prayer from a mosque. Added in some low drone and some random oddity to keep some motion going.

It's long and really weird... :ahhh: :ahhh:

Yes, either it's changed and you need to agree to the change or it's an error - I will ask.

Just refreshed that tab and yup, I got it, too! Read through it all.

ETA: It was interesting reading it while listening to Inchantcation! :) Gave it the proper spooky feel.

My go-to film in LuxRender is Kodak Gold 200. It seems to give the colors most like they are in DS, but with a little more pizzazz. :)

...the only "warm" reminders of the holidays here are things like hot cocoa, sitting by the fire (as long as it isn't the tree that is burning), Hot Toddys, cookies and cakes baking in the oven, and whatever form of "roast beast" one is having for the holiday dinner.

I used to use different films in my Hasselblad. Sometimes (for scenics) I used the Gold 100, other times I used other films, depending on the purpose. There was a certain film that was better for portraits, but I can't remember it at the time. I occasionally used Kodachrome 25, but not often. I didn't have a slide viewer nor a scanner that could scan slides well. I made prints of my preferred shots in the darkroom at the rental lab I used. Unfortunately, they (the lab) are long gone. And I can't scan my prints because I made most of them on 16 x 20 paper. I can only scan letter size with my current scanner.
