Actually HSS was invented (or rather sliced out of UberSurface) for the Elite textures (it was originally called Elite Human Surface Shader). What made the Elite skins elite was that they were made from dedicated photoshoots using a super large format camera.

What type of camera? Are you talking about a Hasselblad? That's a medium format camera. Large format is a view camera, using sheet film at 4" x 5" or upwards. Difficult to use those with human subjects unless you pour on a whole lot of light. I suppose studio strobes would do the job, though. Not many use them for human subjects, though. I do know, however, that Playboy used to use one for the centerfolds. I know the silver skins were shot with a Hasselblad, I remember seeing info on them. It may not have been mentioned by name, but there was a behind the scenes shot that showed one, they're quite obvious when you know what they are. I used one when I did wedding and model photography...in fact I used it for scenic photography, too. I used to use my Canon A1, but one time I used both with comparable lenses. I shot Attitash Mountain from White's Cliff. When I blew them both up in the darkroom, it was amazing how much more detail you could see in the medium format images. After that I used the Hassie exclusively for my scenics.

Yes, that's it, thanks for the correction.

    You're welcome.

I know at least a little bit about an awful lot of things. Makes me dangerous, I suppose. :smirk:

...HSS is something I never used much either when it came on the scene due to the extra load it added to the rendering process, as again, I was working in 32 bit with very limited memory resources. I think Steph4 was the first base figure to be released with HSS skins as there is an HSS and non-HSS option when loading her. I always opted for the latter.

I actually haven't used any shader enhancements since the original pwSuface back in the Daz 1.8 - 2.3 days. Using SSS back then took forever to render on my old system but surprisingly did not cause a crash like the UE, HSS, and UbeSurface Shaders did. Haven't messed much with shader enhancement since, until AoA's Subsuface Shaders, which by then, I finally had system capable of handling the extra render load.

    -----

...when I hear "large format camera", I think of the type that used single plate or sheet of film which ranged in dimensions from 4 x 5 to 9 x 12.

...that flu bug must have made it here. Woke up with sore throat & cough. Curse modern day air travel.

Weather is absolutely dreadful today 39° and very cold rain. Barrometer like a roller coaster and will be getting very cold (below 20°) during the week with very windy conditions. Need to get out for a few ingredients to make a week's worth of curry before the cold and wind hit.

Now that's it is above 40, time for me to trek to the grocery store for supplies before colder weather from Tuesday on.

From what I saw on the TV commercial, if you get your dr to prescribe Tamiflu you will get better 1.33 days faster. Remember, I didn't take Tamiflu or even call my dr and ran high fever for 12 days. Still have some lingering ills, but at least now I can stay up all day. Take care of yourselves.

I never get those flu shots. They almost always are for a different strain than the one that comes around. Waste of time. I got sick last year, but I don't think it was the flu. Before that it was three or four years. That's about how it goes for me, once every three or four years.

Why should you look forward to it? If you expect it, half the battle is already lost. It's not like you're locked in close quarters with a bunch of people all day. Your likelihood of catching it is much less than people who are working close together all day, in a building with recirculated air blowing on you from above.

...already got it. Just that the cold windy weather is going to make it all that more miserable as I don't have the best heating where I am at.

Morning. Gathering thunderheads and gusting wind from the bay bending treetops and tossing birds and bric-a-brac around a darkening sky in front of a tropical storm :)

No "ta-kill-ya" in this casa (smells too much like paint thinner).

What really works for me is Tuaca and hot cider.

sigh i'se home all alone. no taxi money to go the pub.

that's the big thing that sucks about the holidays, socialize socialize, then boom, everyone is gone and alone again.

...the way I'm feeling right now, the silence and lack of socialising is most welcome. just finished a big bowl of beef and potato soup (almost a stew). In a bit some Wodka and OJ. Too early to turn in as I'll end up waking at something like 03:00.

Well Green Bay took the NFC "Norris" Division today 30 - 20 over Detroit.

A couple bonehead penalties almost derailed things though, one killing what would have been a scoring drive and the other basically giving the Lions a touchdown (the coaching staff needs to get these costly penalties under control). There was also a very bizarre play late in the game. Stafford (Detroit's QB) was caught in his own end zone for a safety which gave Green Bay an extra 2 points. Now when this happens, the team which was assessed the safety (Detroit) must do what is called a "free kick" (basically a punt as if it were 4th down) from their 10 yard line to the opposing team. Well, instead of kicking it way down field like normally would happen, somehow Detroit's punter managed to do what is called an "onsides kick", basically getting the ball to bounce wildly when it landed, making it difficult for the other team to field. Gutsy call by their coaching staff, for in the end, the Lions came up with the ball and proceeded in the next couple of downs to score a touchdown (though they went for the 2 point conversion and failed). Oddest thing I ever saw.

On the ensuing (normal) kickoff they tried another onsides kick but this time Green Bay came up with the ball and it was game over.

Howeve, there was a downside to the afternoon as Seattle routed St Louis 20 - 6 so they get home field advantage for the playoffs. At least Green Bay gets a first week bye being the #2 seed. Not going to be fun having to go back to play in Seattle again (Green bay lost the opener there earlier this season making it three losses there in the last three years). Other than Green Bay though, I don't see any of the other NFC playoff teams having anywhere near what it would take to beat the SeaChickens on their home field which is the loudest outdoor stadium in the league.

In footy, Arsenal manged to win their match

In that other sport that uses a round ball which is played indoors, Wisconsin defeated Buffalo 68 - 56. I look for them to move up in the standings as both #4 Cincinnati and #3 Arizona lost,( 'Zona to unranked UNLV which usually results in a "fall from grace" in the college BB world).

I seem to be living in the only part of the United Kingdom that isn't at least a foot deep in snow, although it is very cold and frosty.

Being a romantic soul, I like white Christmases, as long as they don't stop me from getting to work or to the local Sainsbury's for food.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

We had a very strange thing the other day. It snowed a little where we are, but didn't stay around, had snow to the south of us, snow to the west of us and snow to the north of us, but we had none to speak of, very strange as we are in the mountains although not on one of the highest mountains (we are not quite 1200 ft).
