Interesting! Will have to chase that episode down!
The other myth in the episode was anti-gravity devices, to help you narrow it down.
Dana
Cool, thanks! Watching one episode now while I sip soup! :)
I gather you have never seen the film "Citizen Kane"
I've seen it several times, and I don't get Richard's comment either. Must be a UK thing. :)
oh dear, no not really a UK thing. The quip is dying a death, as was the the Magnate when he said .................
OK, the glossed version - at the beginning of the film, as Kane is dying, he whispers "Rosebud" and no one knows what it means. The film then covers his life, and only at the end do we find out what Rosebud referred to. So the question mark over Rosebud West is the map maker trying not to spoil the ending of Citizen Kane. Sorry.
Hurr hurr hurr...
sounds pirate-ish harrrr
owww my foot bone suffering transporter malfunction
found there are specially made arthritis shoes. http://www.healthyfeetstore.com
Is citizen Kane the old movie where they try to decipher what an old guy's last word meant? Saw it in a movie class long time ago.

...thanks, when they first came out they were not fully compatible with Daz.

OK, at the time I read your comment, Richard, the post no longer had any physical connection to the map. :)
Therefore I took your comment at face value, which made it a "non sequitur" . :red:
ETA: I thought your "they" was KK and ps1borg.
...been shopping around myself but the only two 24GB kits (6 x 4GB) I can find that are compatible with my MB are a GSkill and Corsair one, both which have these odd protrusions on the top of the sticks. The memory sticks I currently have (Corsair) don't look like that at all.
The anti-gravity stuff is wild.. thanks for telling me about that episode!
I've been told that due to availability, RAM for older computers is actually more expensive than that for new computers.
Dana
...the two 24GB kits pictued in my post above go for 249$ and 279$ respectively at Newegg. When I purchased the 12GB kit for my system several years ago, it cost me 389$.
Hard to find 4 x 6GB kits anymore everything is now 3 x 8GB but my board will not support 8GB sticks. Will not even consider "used" memory.

...yikes , too spendy for me. :ohh:
...yikes , too spendy for me. :ohh:
If Mike and Vicky can't wear 'em. do I I need the shoes that badly? :P
Here cheeseburger, here cheeseburger! If they can put a man on the Moon, why can't they make a cheeseburger that comes when you call it?
Oh well, off to the cheeseburger store. Later.
...the GSkill kit actually makes note that it is compatible with my MB's X58 chipset. At least it doesn't look quite as "weird" as the Corsair one which in the description mentions
....Right,
"Hey, I got scary looking memory sticks, y'all better watch out, for my rig is one bad a** render beast now that will eat yours for brekkie!!!!" ;-)
I've got 8 heat spreaders on mine. I have 8 4GB sticks. I wanna get it down to 4 8GB sticks so I can just upgrade one at a time instead of having to replace all at once
i don't giver a damn
Abiut this talk of all this RAM
DDR2, DDR3, makes me wanna pee
It's for server, laptops, desks
All this RAM is such a pest!
I goo back to what I adore
I'm booting up my C64
:ahhh:

I suspect that those are sort of like heat sinks, or maybe exactly like heat sinks. I believe that higher end RAM has things like that, to dissipate the heat and keep the RAM running cooler without a meltdown. Must be tough to push it into the sockets with those thingies, though.
Dana
You're welcome! I watch an episode every now and then...those guys are crazy! They love to blow things up. I saw one a couple of years ago where they tested the theory of escaping gunshots by diving under water. I think it was proven. One time they tested the theory of surviving a plane crash if you do what they tell you to get into position. I think they proved that one, too. I can't remember for sure. I wouldn't want to put it to the test, though. :gulp:
Dana
Anyone want some pizza as I ordered two extra large pizzas.
Dana
Morning. Gentle rain falling as welcome as an old friend glossing city grime and leaving roof and paving sparkling in a few fugitive sunbeams :)
*noms*
Found in bits but always complete
Endless bytes but never eats
Random access always in order
Must be something they found in Mordor
...I could probably go with 3 x 8GB but that would leave 3 slots permanently empty as my board only supports 24GB. I would also need to be sure that they are compatible with the x58 chipset.
The downside is I would have to upgrade my OS as Win7 Premium only supports 16GB. MS ceased selling Win7 "Anytime Upgrade" keys last year so I would either have to find one on a third party site (Amazon has one but it;'s almost 400$!!!!!) or do a full clean install of the full version which would mean having to back everything up and then rebuilding my setup all over again. Not looking forward to having to deal with all that.
bits and bytes and nibbles
but never bits and kibbles

Dana
...that was exactly my thought as it takes a little force to make sure they are firmly seated in the slots. Not much into having pierced fingers.

I thought pierced fingers are all the rage these days?
